Sakana sat on a pile of leaves, despising the harshness around her. The trees were hard, the ground was hard, and the wind across Sakana's face was cold and biting. It was a funny thing that the water, no mater how icy, always felt comfortably warm. It was what Sakana imagined it would feel like if she were hugged by a loved one. Perhaps water was Sakana's loved one. The one thing that Sakana could count on. Though water could be unpredictable and as harsh as things on land at times, Sakana felt at home among the waves. This was something she would never feel on land.

The path to the top of the waterfall was well-traveled and smoothed. For most, it was an easy hike. Children easily climbed to the top of the path in all seasons. For Sakana, it was a tougher feat. Her feet were made for water, not for dirt. She climbed clumsily and slowly to the top. Her skin felt weird under the beat of the wind. It tingled with anxiety. Something about being on land just felt so wrong and foreign to Sakana. The rocks on land were meant to trip her up. They weren't smooth beautiful finds like the ones under the water.

At the top of the waterfall there were large boulders on either side. Sakana had spent countless hours sunbathing here. It was her favorite spot above water. She wanted to keep searching her, but the rocks seemed to be calling to her. They were begging her to curl up on them like a cat and enjoy the warmth it would bring. Laying out in the sunshine was one of the few redeeming qualities to being on land. Sakana sighed deeply. She knew taking so many breaks in a small day of hunting was unwise, but something within her simply couldn't resist.

Sakana felt as if she had only closed her eyes for a moment, but when she opened them it was dark. This was not a real problem since Sakana had excellent vision in the night. It would however mean that only the nocturnal animals would be out. This could be either really good or bad for Sakana's hunt. She walked on one side of the river on top of the falls briefly before deciding to jump in the water to wake herself up. The water felt refreshing, but the pull was strong. It almost felt as if the current was more lively at night.

Sakana swam against the current feeling her muscles awaken with every stroke through the bubbling water. She bobbed her head above water for a bit before giving into the pull and letting the water drag her down. It was not like the pool below where she could easily spot everything around her. Instead, everything rushed past her like a movie being put on fast forward. Everything was a beautiful blur. The rush of the water made for sensory overload, but to Sakana it was exciting. The edge of the waterfall was drawing nearer and Sakana had a choice to make. She would give in. After all, the fall was her favorite part. Her few short moments of freedom before she would hit the pool below were all a pleasant rush to her.
