Human Form

Idalani Falls. So this was Idalani Falls. Why, of all the places in Evelon, had Tori decided to send him here? "It's a beautiful place," she had said. Psh. He wasn't capable of appreciating beauty. Yes, he could acknowledge that waterfalls and rainbows and the like were appealing to certain people, but he couldn't experience the total awe associated with it. Waterfalls were loud. Rainbows were just colours. He didn't like colours.

Of course, he could deal with it. But people, on the other hand, like the ones he had been approached by at the entrance to the Falls, made him neurotic. Even now, he was tense, his hands shoved into the pockets of his black jeans, a blank expression on his face contrasted only by the nervous, distrusting look in his eyes. I don't like this, he thought, gripping the small, square coin in his pocket until his fingers hurt. It was his security blanket, given to him by his best friend just before she changed schools. He gave it another squeeze as an annoying little boy trotted up to him and asked him a bunch of questions. He ignored the boy and kept walking until he lost interest and fled back to his parents, probably Aries, judging by the spiraling horns that protruded from their skulls.

He trudged down a rather narrow path, hoping he wouldn't have to deal with any other people at the end. His wish was granted- the small clearing was as empty as... as empty as... well, it was empty, that's for sure. He managed a small smile, since no one was around to see it, and took a seat on a large rock near a tree, hidden in the shade. Alone, at last.

Looks like I'll be creating a character on the spot; la gasp!

Ugh.  If there was one thing that the Clockwork Garudor did not like about Idalani, it was all the colors and the sunlight.  He hated sunlight.  It was too bright for him; it made his metallic body glisten so brightly that it blinded even Nochina, a blind Kuhna back at the Arena.  However, for now, the Garudor was in his human form, but even then, he still wasn't amused.

He stood an imposing 5'10", but that was not all that made him imposing.  The greater half of his face was mechanical, as was one of his arms, from shoulder to fingertips, and both of his legs were mechanical.  As if that were not enough, he also had mechanical wings coming out of his back.

"Why'd this place even get discovered?  And why couldn't I go to Lambastia's Cathedral?" he asked himself, not even noticing the other person there.

His eyes snapped open at the voice. He quickly sat up from his reclined position against the tree with a short gasp, and he fell off the far side of the rock. He flopped awkwardly to the ground, getting the wind knocked out of him. God, that was embarrassing, he thought, gritting his teeth at the heat creeping up in his cheeks and swearing under his breath. He sat up in a half-kneeling position, peering sheepishly over the rock. The strip of mechanical face glinted in the sunlight as his yellow eye tried to focus...

That guy was tall. He seemed to be around the height of his trainer's son, so maybe... five-ten? five-eleven? Ah, the height didn't matter. What interested him more was the mechanical wings on his back and the metal arm. He was like him. His eyes widened a little. He'd actually never met anyone even remotely like him.

Rakayth blinked as the other being fell off of the rock.  He noticed the mechanical portion of the other person's face, but he, unlike the other, did not have any thoughts about the other being similar to him.  The gears in his hand whirred as he raised his hand to scratch the back of his neck.

"I don't suppose you quite like this place either, eh?" Rakayth asked, his orange eyes--one mechanical, one normal--focusing on the other.  "I can tell you're like me--part mech.  What're you doin' out here?" he asked.

As usual, he didn't smile. He had already assumed a standing position, rounding the front of the rock and leaning against it. He just looked at him with his big mismatched eyes, pausing a moment before answering in a low voice. "My trainer sent me out here for some reason. I find it less time-consuming not to ask her why." He caught himself fidgeting. Social anxiety. He looked the man over again before continuing. "I'm Imyel."

"Rakayth." The Clockwork Garudor said, lowering his head slightly before he crossed his arms, the mechanical grinding of gears filling the area.  He looked down at his arm and muttered, "Cursed thing... as if one arm and most of my face wasn't enough, they had to put in the mechanical legs and wings..."

After a moment, though, he stopped.  "A trainer, you say?  I don't always listen to my trainer, but in this isntance, I had no choice.  Told me that I needed to... not spend so much time in dark places.  I can't help it; I just don't... like the light.  She... my trainer, that is... likes to keep me polished to the point where I can blind a blind Kuhna..." here, he grimaced.  He hated that woman with all his might...

[Tori]

Imyel actually smiled- if only slightly- at the comment. "Hah. Yeah, my trainer's kinda gone off her rocker recently. Really, she's too pathetic to hate," he said, with a humorous glint in his eye. "Forgive me, I'm not so great at small talk," he said, running his hand through his hair.

"I'd like to think I'm not too good with small talk either, yet that's all I get back at my home." Rakayth said, sighing as he shook his head, turning and leaning against a tree.  "It's been a while since I met anyone else aside from the other mindless Clockwork pieces of junk that I live with.  They have two functions: sit there and look like imposing statues or guard our trainer with our lives.  It's so idiotic."

Here, Rakayth kicked a rock aside as he flexed his mechanical fingers.  "To see those that are not in full control of their bodies made to serve in such a fashion--it's not amusing at all."

[Tori]

He nodded. "I agree. It's almost disturbing- I don't think people realize that mechas have personalities, too. They think they can program them to do whatever they want." He sighed, relaxing a bit. "I'm glad I converted with at least half of my free will." He sighed again, remembering his parents. His parents were a hard topic to think about; both of them were drug addicts, alcoholics, and abusive. In fact, he was born a normal Nemuwit- but a child can only take so much, and after so many beatings, he finally broke. It was his friend who took him in and saved his life, and even if he would never be normal again, he was still alive, and that was something to be thankful for.

"Yeah, I agree." Rakayth said, shaking his head as he remembered part of his own past.  All he remembered from it, really, was he had been a DreamSnare before this, but one of his parents--he could not remember now--had taken him to some clinic and, while he was whimpering and wriggling, the older Garudor, whichever of his parents it was, kept striking him and telling the medic--or, rather, scientist--what to do with him.

Full mech. He remembered hearing.  And wipe his mind, too.  I don't want him to remember any of this. However, the scientist had left this part intact so that Rakayth could know who had really done this to him.

There was a silence as painful memories were recounted on both parts. Imyel shook his head, clearing his mind of such thoughts. "Yes, well, anyway," he said, taking another stab at small talk, "Would you perhaps be interested in a short walk?" What he suggested a walk for, he had no clue. At the least, it might help Imyel loosen up. His social phobia was getting on his nerves- he should have called that therapist Tori suggested. He hopped down from his perch on the boulder, brushing off his clothes as if they were covered with dust, and smiled.
