On and on they walked, the temperature slowly rose, the lantern flame slowly grew again, it felt like they had been walking forever when they finally came across another side tunnel on the opposite side to the first one.

Maji walked over to its' entrance, her large glowing eyes taking in as much as they could, this tunnel so far looked like it might show a bit more promise from what she could see, the was a faint trail mostly clear of stones running down the centre, but it had the beginnings of cave debris building up on it again. "Zeira" she looked up at the Werecain and spoke quietly "It looks to me like this tunnel has been used in the past. Do we investigate it? or find another more recently used one?" she waited expecting Zeira to have a quick investigation of the tunnel herself before deciding on an answer.

The fenling had noticed a branch before herself and stopped walking to check it out. Zeira turned to look as Maji asked about checking it out.
It was true. It looked quite like it had been used, though not likely recently. Then again, it was kinda hard to tell. And she knew the chances. If they didn't check it out, it would be where the akails were. If they did there would be nothing there. What was it called? Muphy's Law or something like that.
"How 'bout another quick glance around." Zeira said, and moved to explore the branch-off.

Maji nodded, it's not like a few minutes of further investigation would hurt, they'd already been down here for countless hours. Thinking of how long they'd been down here Maji realised that she was getting rather hungry, she could still hold off for a while, but obviously hadn't been able to bring any food with her, and hadn't seen another living soul down here in the caverns, not even a single Rattegan to hunt! As she waited by the tunnel entrance watching Zeira nose around at the floor, she pondered what they could do about food, most likely they would have to surface, hunt and then come back down again. At least they were fine for water, the odd trickle could be found running down a stalagmite or pooling on the cave floor here and there.

She decided not to point out her hunger to Zeira just yet, after all they were heading back to the surface anyway, albeit slowly.

Coming back to the present she stood her, tummy growling faintly, and joined Zeira in the tunnel, might as well occupy her mind with something other than the thought of food.

It didn't look like like there was much down this cavern, but she couldn't see it as a whole with the small field of vision the lantern gave her. And she had never had the all time best dark vision for a werecain.
She was getting hungry and she didn't know how long they had been down there. At some point they would need to go back up. Unless the akail had some weird stash of meat that they found. But Zeira doubted it.
"You find anything, Maji?" The werecain asked the other, though she didn't bother looking up from her search, "We'd probably need to head back up and take a break 'fore too long."

Maji looked wide eyed at Zeira, perturbed by the way she almost seemed to read her mind, not that she wasn't used to that sort of thing with some of the pets at the zoo, but she didn't think that Zeira had that kind of ability. Composing herself and hoping that Zeira hadn't noticed her shock, Other pets shouldn't see such emotions from her dammit! she cursed to herself, she nodded briefly; "Well, I suggest we check out a few more tunnels first before we leave, that way we don't have to come quite so far back down again, and besides I feel like we may be on the trail of an Akail now that we've found some tracks, even if they are old" she hoped she sounded cool and calm, not annoyed with herself. Without waiting for an answer she headed up the main tunnel again, peering left and right for more side tunnels.

((Zeira can't read minds, but I was at school and when I read your previous post when it said they'd been down there for countless hours, the first thing that popped into my head was 'I'd be starved to death by then!' XD))
Zeira noticed that upon saying this, the fenling looked at her funny. What? Being hungry was such a sin now? She shook off the spurt of annoyance, however, and blamed her lack of good spirit on their lack of luck. Sooner or later they would find something no doubt.
The fenling suggesting checking a few more branches of the cave. Not a bad idea, and Zeira, like any good canine, would survive it, though she likely wouldn't enjoy it. "Yeah. Lets go ahead and do that. Sounds like a decent Idea."
As the fenling left out into the main tunnel, Zeira followed. Hopefully they found something soon or their weren't as many branches from here to the entrance as they thought there were.

((Well I thought that being that the RP began on the 6th Sept countless hours is probably a bit of an understatement XD ))

It was further than Maji expected to the next side tunnel, they were getting pretty close to the cavern entrance where this whole expedition had begun by now. Hmm, maybe we should head up for food and such after this one she mused.

As she drew near to the latest side tunnel she once again saw some signs of activity, very similar to the last tunnel but a bit fresher looking, Ugh! It'd be utterly typical if the akails live at the very front of these caverns, and we missed them by not checking these tunnels on the way down! she shook her head, but she wouldn't risk missing them again by suggesting they skip tunnels now, so she headed in as Zeira followed closely behind.

"I'm going to check a bit deeper in this tunnel" she told Zeira before silenty padding down it.

They had walked a considerable ways since the last cave before they came upon this one. Surely they were close to being out. She had to admit it would've felt good to get out of these caverns for just one measly hunt.
The fenling's voice brought her back into the caverns, however. Saying something about checking deeper into a tunnel?  Zeira moved to follow. "You find something?"

"I'm not sure" Maji whispered, "This tunnel looks more recently used than the last one, I have a feeling we're getting close to finding their lair, so I think it would be prudent to check more thoroughly" she explained, still whispering just in case an akail happened to be nearby...

She rounded a corner a short way into the tunnel, moving slowly, silently, and keeping herself as small an unobtrusive as possible. She didn't need the light from Zeiras' lantern to be able to see the floor having nocturnal vision, she sniffed delicately for tell-tale smells and kept her huge bat like ears alert for any sounds all the while scrutinising the floor and recalling her visions to her mind. She felt like the tunnel she was in was familiar, but she couldn't hear or smell anything unusual, nor could she find any more recent signs of activity on the floor. Sighing slightly she turned around and headed back to rejoin Zeira.

Zeira waited for the fenling where she was. She still found it odd that a creature of Maji's size was fine being alone while, not only being in the home of, but looking for an akail. Didn't they like eat creatures of that size for dinner or something? Zeira might be able to stand the chance, though she had never really taken the time to become a great warrior, but she had more size and claw on her than Maji at least.
It didn't take long for Maji to come back. The fenling looked dissappointed, just slightly. "Didn't find anything?" Zeira asked. Figured. But they had to be getting closer. Either that or these dark, cold caves were more of a tourist traps than the two thought.

"Not really" Maji replied, "I'm getting really hungry now, maybe we should head on out and find something to eat?", she waited for Zeira to reply.

Whilst she was waiting for Zeira to consider Maji started muttering, more to herself than to Zeira "Hmmm, how will we know which tunnels we have searched and which we haven't, everything looks the same down here? Maybe if we pass any more tunnels on the way out then we should make a pile or stones or leave some sort of marker so we know where to start looking when we get back" seemingly satisfied with the answer she gave to her own question, Maji looked up at the Werecain expectantly. It seems the little Fenling was starting to act a little odd, let's hope it's just from lack of food.

Finally. The Fenling had suggested food, and that sounded like a great place to be, as she had decided previously. "Of course. We probably should go find something." Zeira answered.
The fenling had been mumbling. Zeira couldn't hear exactly what she said, which was annoying yet the nature of mumbling. As soon as the fenling stopped, she looked back up at Zeira. "You Ok?" The werecain asked. She was starting to worry about the smaller creature. She was always a little antsy around people when they started acting odd. It made them all the more unpredictable.

Maji looked at Zeira oddly, why wouldn't she be okay? it was almost as if the Fenling was unaware of having been having a conversation with herself out loud.

She stared at the Werecain a bit longer, then abruptly sprinted off up the main tunnel, bounding and bouncing every now and then. She stopped momentarily to scrape a pile of stones and rocks into a hasty pile before another tunnel, then sped off again, paying no attention to whether she passed more side tunnels or not.

She didn't know whether Zeira was following her or not, or even how far behind she was. It didn't take long before she reached the main cavern where the original group of Zeira, Gloria and herself had met, but Maji didn't slow down, or wait for Zeira when she got there, instead she continued on until she was outside.

You'd think there wouldn't be any prey left to hunt with all the ruckus she was making, but the Fenling unerringly wound her way between stones and plants and with a final little bounce, she pounced and landed on a wild rattegan, ending it's life with practised ease.

The fenling continued to stare at Zeira oddly and then bounded off. After recovering from the extreme unexpectedness of the action, the werecain followed, though only at a fast walk. The fenling was well ahead, but Zeira knew where she was going.
Zeira saw the random pile of stones, but didn't really think anything of them. She was outside just in time to see the fenling pounce. Well. Maji should be happy with some food, but Zeira still needed some herself, and went out to look. The good thing about prey animals? Where there was one, there was more.

((That's okay Citre, I'd kind of figured that you had given up on this RP anyways ))

With a full belly Maji lay sprawled on the floor, the warmth of the day seeping into her body, she felt as if she hadn't been warm for months! She sleepily looked around for Zeira, but couldn't see her anywhere nearby, nevermind, she'll find me when she's ready to go back in, Maji would be in no mood to be entering Craiss Caverns again until she had had time to digest and warm up thoroughly.

Within moments the Fenling was fast asleep, dreaming of Akails.
