[Kitsumi]

Shadecaster, also known as Shade, looked behind him. Everything he treasured was gone. Everyone he loved was dead. He was alone. And at the moment, all he wanted was to have been destroyed with everything else.

[Kitsumi]

Flitter zipped about, unnoticed. She was tiny enough that no one took much notice of her no matter where she went. She liked things that way. Ever since Glimmer had died, Flitter had wanted to be alone. And now, she was going to get her wish.

[Kitsumi]

The pain was overwhelming. Shade felt like the world was caving in on him. He was suffocating, drowning in the despair. He knew that only one thing would help. He sighed. Looks like it was time to weild his weapon.

[Kitsumi]

Flitter sang as she flew. It was a slow, haunting melody. It fit her mood perfectly. Her friends had described her as melancholy. But they were wrong. She was much worse than that.

[Kitsumi]

'Don't give in.' As always, a war was raging inside of Shade's head. 'You can tough it out. You don't have to do this.' One part of his mind pleaded with him to reconsider. 'Just do it.' The other part spoke this time. 'Give in to the longings.'

[Kitsumi]

"Don't leave." Her friends had pleaded with her to stay. "Your family needs you." But Flitter had remained firm. "I have needs, too," she had argued. "And right now, I need solitude."

[Kitsumi]

"Ugh!" Shade yelled in frustration. He put his hands to his head as his eyes closed. He needed the voices to stop. He needed them to stop now. "Argh!" Shade gasped for breath; the battle would soon be over, he knew.

[Kitsumi]

Her father had wanted her to stay too. "Glimmer would want you here." His loud voice had echoed throughout the house. "Wouldn't you want to fulfill her last wishes?" His dark eyes seemed to burn into Flitter's skin.

[Kitsumi]

Shade couldn't take it. His head was spinning, lungs screaming for oxygen. He felt dizzy, and almost collapsed. The need was too great to deny. He had to do it.

[Kitsumi]

But the manipulation from her father hadn't worked. Flitter was too smart to succomb to it. "Goodbye, father." She had left without a backwards glance. She knew that the place she had been born and raised was no longer her home.
