Possibly the rainiest place on Evelon, Baian stretches for miles along the southern coasts. Thanks to the moist soil rich in minerals, wildlife here have developed unique adaptations. To travel through this thick, muddy area, most either take specially designed boats. (+2 Offense)

Return to Baian Swamp

Sugar & Spice [Self]

It was a full moon that night. The humid, summer air hung like a blanket across the land, quieting the rustling sounds of animals and insects as they went about their nightly business. The moon, with its dim light, watched over it all, the swamps and the farms that grew on the pockets around the marshes. That same soft light was making it impossible for Ringa to sleep.

She tossed and turned, making her hammock bed swing dangerously back and forth as the girl tried to find a comfortable position. Her bushy red hair felt slightly sticky, and it stuck to her skin and face, and she spent a full minute trying to get a strand out of her mouth. Sighing to herself, Ringa stared up at the ceiling, watching the shadows of branches move across the blank space. The sounds of the crickets chirping outside her window, and the treehouse (which served as her family's actual house) creaked slightly whenever there was a breeze. Soothed by these familiar sounds, Ringa's eyelids were just about to close, and then a pebble struck the side of her window.

Paprika stared up at the small treehouse, which was tucked away in the boughs of a huge ash tree. The ladder had been drawn up and the windows were dark; Ringa's parents must have gone to bed already. Which was a good thing, in Paprika's opinion. Not that she didn't like Ringa's parents, but they were just... too much like Ringa. All bright and peppy and full of well-wishing caring. Paprika could handle that from a thirteen year old, but not from thirty year olds. Of course, Paprika knew that if she ever told Ringa that, she would probably be faced with a red-faced tirade from the younger girl, and probably a couple teaspoons of tears.

Carefully, Paprika moved the reeds that had been covering the front of her raft, then poled herself forward. The still waters of the swamp rippled around her, silent and dark. There was a slight wind, but it gave Paprika no trouble as she poled her raft to land. Carefully, her footsteps as silent as the night around her, Paprika tied her raft up to the small dock that the Softbrush's had built on the edge of their property, then walked through the yard to stand underneath the old ash tree. Stretching back, Paprika contemplated her next step. There was a 50% chance that Ringa was sleeping, and if that was the case, there was a 100% chance that she wouldn't wake up until morning. Banking on that other 50%, Paprika reached in her pocket and found a nice, smooth pebble. Taking aim, Paprika squinted at Ringa's dark window, then chucked the rock up, watching it arc and hit the center of Ringa's window. Right on target.

At the thunk at her window, Ringa shot up in bed, wide awake. She had about one second to wonder about who on earth was at her window this late at night before she leaned too far over on her hammock and flipped over to the floor with a startled cry. Thankfully, Ringa had learned her lesson from many times before, and there was a decent pile of pillows under her hammock to cushion her fall. Groaning slightly, Ringa grabbed her wiffle bat for protection and padded over to the window.

The girl gasped as another rock came soaring from the ground, and she ducked underneath the sill. The rock bounced off the glass with a small tap. Ringa stood up, glaring at the figure outside of her window. "Papri-ka!" She gasped, dropping the bat and opening the window to stick her head out of her window, hissing. "What the heck are you doing?!"
