New beginnings (Pio and I)

Postby Nevermore » 11/21/2015 10:03 PM

(Came from Nori Volcano to here.)

Her face stung, and the cold air chilled her nose. Her eyes were not opening as she asked them to, feeling around for... well anything, her fingers swept across some very fine feeling blankets.. What? she thought. Was this her heaven? feeling for her skin and face she felt fabric all over her, covering her head to toe, her nose tip was out. Now taking a deep breath in; the spices and herbs filled her senses... Well she wasn't at Hydrisland anymore.

He did little to these people; in fact he would not eat them even if the small ones begged him to, while they picked and probed him as he laid to sleep right outside her tent, upon getting here he wanted to be at her bed side, however the people here wouldn't have that and so he was just outside, they couldn't move him from his spot. He was waiting for the girl to wake. Three days and three nights had gone by he did not want to leave her side, but every so often the sea called to him. Maybe at these times the natives relaxed while he was gone. But he was reluctant to leave her side, he feared the worst yet wouldn't give up on her... This was his bond. He would protect her for as long as he lived.

The earth was moist and warm here, the areas where sun light pushed through the willows were dry and hot and little specs floated in those beams form the moss and dried wood that sat away form the banks of the river. Swamp stools and moss grew abundant here, but so did good flowers and herbs. These swamp lands held rich, fertile mud, hundred of years old, or so boasted their tall birch trees and long willow reeds. During the summer days, Anica the Apothecary was out in the fields hanging her herbs to dry in the sun and making lavender baby dolls for the children of the small swamp tribe. Anica was the only real gypsy of this little floating town, some of these folks were indirectly related to the Sinti Gypsies and had received acceptance by the older respected members of her clan. Anica herself was from the smaller coastal clan, Munush but left her clan when she was very young to make her own way in the world.
Today she gathered white willow root for her badly injured guests, it was in her basket with the many other balms she needed to finish pressing, the root was good for soothing pain, rosemary would help them dream and the many others were to kill infection and boost immunity.

Two chubby black haired children wearing play frocks were sticking their heads inside the iconic brown and white healing tent where the two severely injured foreigners were resting. It would be time to bathe and feed them soon and Anica clicked at the nosy children in their language, "leave them be unless you want to bathe the big one by your selves!" the children squealed and ran with giggles.
One turned back to Anica and took a proud stance, poking his belly out past his chest, he looked much like his father, "Madame doctor, the young one was moving!"
Anica made a surprised look as she side glanced to the tent, the quiet massive dragon she'd become used to seeing, and then back to the boy before squishing her face into an affirming smile, "I better go in then, hm?"
He smiled and nodded, trying to look wise before he waddle-ran to join his friend who was pulling down a rope from the wall of a neighboring shed. Anica took a breath as she walked passed their scaled guest and then ducked into the netted tent. The breeze could sneak in through its weaves but it kept the air clean. Anica pulled her dark brown skirts into the low standing place. The tent stretched long enough to house five or six people comfortably and had a wonderfully cozy feeling with its low ceiling. There were tables and baskets at the foot of each cot and one carved stool by the front. Anica carried her basket and the stool to the bed of the small one, her dreaded hair fell in front of her shoulders. She settled and began grinding herbs in a stone bowl, humming a little nursery tune her mother used to sing to her. The smell of wet earth and pine burst from her work. She didn't often make very much noise when she worked, but she wanted the little girl to be aware of her presence. She wanted her to be as comforted as possible, this was likely the first time she'd been awake since taking the beating of a life time, the bandages she was covered in would be scary enough by themselves, but there were harder factors. Anica was surprised she was already coming back into consciousness, her larger companion was still in a severe recovering state; it was almost as though he'd died and came back to life.
"The Black Dawn,
what a ludicrous title."
"Have you ever seen a black sunrise,
Mr. Speaks?"
"Precisely my point Mr...
What was it again?"

"Tiberius"
"Ah yes, well,
how does one suppose the light-giving sun should rise black?"
"Why would one suppose it refers to the sun?
Does the dawn not refer to the moment a new day is revealed?

"Indeed it does! Imagine it! A dawn of darkness! Asinine!"

She stopped moving at the sudden footsteps in.. where ever she was. Clear consciousness was coming back to her, her duties were coming back to her, she was sure she would get another beating for making the villagers take care of her... How long had she been taking space in someone's hut? A woman was humming now, she reached her small frail hand out, the one that wasn't tied down to her chest, that was broken after all. So her good to use arm stretched out from her right side reaching for the women. She reminded Taka of oO'Ma the old lady from the village who took care of her while she was still nursing. That old fisherman's Ma'.

"ER-CH" her throat and jaw were in no state to make correct words, instead moaning choking noises were all that came out; she wanted to tell oO'Ma everything! She wanted to be cradled once more, she wanted to cry! She had missed oO'Ma so much, she had been the only elder in the village to take pity on her and to shape her up... She had died years and years ago, when Taka was able to start forming sentences, and perform simple tasks... Wait if oO'Ma was no longer in the living where was she? Had she finally died? Was this heaven... No, everything felt too real. She had duties and obligations to care to, no time for her silly dreams. She lifted her chest up trying with all her might to open her eyes, but nothing was happening she stayed in the dark, perhaps this beating led to her sightlessness... There fore she would still have to take care of her duties no matter her pain or blindness, the villagers would not tolerate her existence if she did not feed their Deity, and then they would surly kill her.
----
He had watched the woman draped in many cloths and earthy skirts walk in and out of the tent he was guarding, every time with dirty sheet and clean sheets. She had been the one caretaking her. There for she was someone He would sincerely trust.   This time he hadn't jumped up to scare the children away, she took care of them, which was probably for the best. She had never stopped caring for her over the past days and nights. How truly blessed was he to have stumbled upon these strangers?

Anica put a warm, kind hand out to the little arm that was reaching out so blindly. She placed her small mortar bowl on the cot beside the little youth and gave both of her hands to her, "hello" she said in her best English, she didn't know what language this little one spoke, but often English was the easiest to identify. Anica's first language was french but she rarely used it these days, "my name is Anica" she paused, there was some sort of flighty energy in the little girl's hands, some sort of eagerness, Anica began saying the word "safe" or "you're safe" in as many languages as she could think of which was about seventeen all the way into the bush people dialects she knew. Had she known the girl was from an isolated Island on the other side of the world, she would have known her words couldn't reach her exactly, but hopefully one of these languages would at least be close to her own.

As the little one struggled, Anica placed a gentle hand on her shoulder to still her, "no." she pressed her firmly, but not harshly, just enough to suggest "stay put". Anica then unwrapped the little one's bruised and cut up hand, it was yellowing now, bruises healed immensely thanks to the Apothecary's balms and salves. She then lead the girl's hand to her bandage wrapped face, she let her fully feel the the top of her head where stitches were, the hair on her head that was shaved away, she lead her tiny fingers to hard bumps under the bandages where more stitches were, and then she lay her hand on her other arm to  let her feel the wood splint and heavy bandaging. There was more, so much more, her spine was damaged so she was strapped to a bed board, her knee was recently adjusted back into place and one of her eyes was lost and so many other horrible things were discovered in Anica's careful examination of her little body. It was a miracle this eager, quiet little thing wasn't screaming in pain, she wasn't given enough anesthesia not to feel all of this. Anica didn't foresee letting her move on her own for some weeks if not months.

She paused what were these words, these noises? It was a voice but her tongue was so strange a word or phrase popped up in her head as she began to remember what the foreigner said.. she wanted to ask so many questions but she was reluctant none of the words the woman spoke were words she knew. The word traveler stuck in her head but she could not say a word as her throat and jaw wouldn't let her. She wanted to move away but the restraints  held her there. Following the woman's touch as she prodded her whole body to show her just how beat she was, to how much this person took care of her body. She began to realize this was not the village this was not a village member this was a traveler a stranger. She reminded her of the old lady the one that took care of her.
She wanted to walk she wanted to see she wanted to get up she wanted to move.. But she couldn't her legs were bound her arm was attached to her with wooden plates..she was trapped.
The women had stopped her from getting up and so she shifted turning her head to the womans direction. She wanted to thank her so badly when would she be released?

Re: New beginnings (Pio and I)

Postby Pio » 11/22/2015 5:38 PM

It became a routine thing for the little girl to wake up every day, they would have their small interactions of holding hands and feeding her became easier. After about two weeks Anica removed half of the bandages and did not replace them, the other half were replaced with fresh bandages. Some of the townspeople started to come to visit the little one, more so now that she had half of her face available to be seen and she could now see them. One of the children brought her a small wooden carving of an alligator, the closest symbol to her dragon they could find. Soon flowers and small toys became a frequent delivery to her and some of the older folks would sit with her outside when Anica was out doing her duties. Anica had her suited with a supporting bodice from Europe that was ordered the day she was examined at arrival, Gypsy trades were the fastest in the world; that order would have taken months from anyone else. The girl was strong, she was healing fast even for a child.

It was good to let the girl outside now, try to get her to walk around more, she was even able to use a chamber pot if she was feeling up to it. Anica's greater concern was the man she was brought with. His body was too loose at first, his reflexes didn't work at all, he seemed to have utterly destroyed his leg muscles and one of his shoulders had to be put back into its socket on arrival. Now everything was heavy and stiff, the tendons in his fingers were responding, there was a weak but ever-strengthening chord forming at his heels, the color in his legs weren't perceivable as human yet, but they were coming back from being splattered black and purple. She had to clean out his sinuses which were filled with something she'd only ever seen from the dead; dead brain tissue. He was responding to smells and light now, but for some reason he still wasn't waking up.

James' secret was that he didn't want to wake up. He kept dreaming of that same moment; killing that little girl, holding her up like an animal for butcher, merciless, cold blooded. His conscience couldn't let it go, he didn't fight hard enough to gain back control of his body. James Leer was convinced that he killed an innocent child and he would lie there like a dead man until it was the truth. He had no knowledge that he would be treated like a living vegetable until the day Anica died.

It was a dark night, there was no moon and all the house lights had been long blown out. The little girl was invited to sleep in Anica's house now that she was able to go up stairs and her dragon had a place on the porch with a lot of extra blankets just in case she decided to sleep with her odd scaled friend instead.
((hope that still works for you.))
The fireflies were sticking to everything and the river frogs were singing loud, but all went silent at the blood curdling scream of a certain foreigner who had not so much as fidgeted on his own in a whole month. Anica was down her stair way, wrapped in wool robes faster than he could take in his next breath. She  had to light her lantern as she ran and it was just barely lit before she entered the tent. James was breathing heavily, sweating profusely, and he was awake. His brain couldn't make out his surroundings. Anica paused just before his cot, the thought had occurred to her that this man was evil before, but it wasn't until his conscious face looked at her that it became an actual fear. Now she was weary, "You are safe." She said in English,"you are with the Gypsy town of Belda, my name is Anica, I hav--"
"The little girl" he breathed haggardly as he tried to swallow, "there- th- there was a little... girl." tears were running down his face, he was speaking English  back to her, his accent was different from her french one, but they were communicating. His eyes were looking at this woman like anything she said or did at this moment would decide his eternal fate. Anica took in a sharp breath as she sorted his words and body language, he was concerned for the little girl...

Re: New beginnings (Pio and I)

Postby Nevermore » 11/22/2015 6:37 PM

The time that went by felt like a dream, she felt whole. Her muscles grew stronger with the nutritious suppers she was now inhaling. She had never felt so alive before. So full. Warm blankets, warm clothing, constantly being catered to, this...This had to be heaven! Her Water Deity was there; her one and only friend beside her. She wanted to cry all the comforts in the world that she so longed for, that she dreamed of... They were all here!

One of the nights in the tent as Anica was doing her routinely clean up on Taka's bandages, her frail little hand grabbed hold of Anica's elbow not even a second later giant tears were forming down her cheeks she was now sobbing and leaning into the woman she wanted to be held, she wanted to let her island go! Taka was healing in more ways than just one in this strange little swamp; her body, yes. But also her soul.

The days and nights were filled with more strangers coming to visit her. Though she didn't understand their language she felt their compassion; in their eyes and body language. She was getting stronger. She wanted to understand their language she wanted to grasp their words. She wanted to understand!

Her Deity had comforted her in many ways as she went about her healing; small walks towards him and then back to her seat. Sometimes almost falling, but his tail briskly swept to catch her. He watched her struggle and would leave to catch some fish he knew would help her get better (a single fish he would bring could feed the entire clan). He understood the waiting process and would not demand his usual meals, just yet.

The day came when Taka was finally able to walk with ease, Anica had offered her a place to sleep, though it seemed way too much for little Taka to accept. After all she was just a Taka. She bowed her head when offered and instead took her place near Pachi Lipepi. After her relocation, a strange and terrifying scream broke through the swamp, "huh?" a small sound came from her mouth it became easier as of late to talk and make more audible sounds. And due to her short recovery the elder clan members helped educate her with their way of speech and language. She was getting to know them, getting to understand, and she felt so good! Upon hearing the scream it reminded her of a voice she heard before her deadly incident, a foreigner a traveler? hmmm, a man. she thought following Anicas hastened pace. She was slower and had entered the tent much later, but her wide eye stuck to the man who was crying out... She was still standing by the entrance her jaw was exposed without any bandages protecting its appearance, it was bruised; a purple, yellow, with some green-ish tint. Her right eye still getting clean bandages. And her nose looked broken, but healed that way long before she ever entered this swamp. She wore an earthy maroon tunic and her feet still wore his sandals.

Anica watched his face soften as his eyes locked with the dark face in the door way. His body began convulsing with heavy tremors of sobs. She was okay, some how she was okay. He fell back from his propped position on the cot, lying on his side, his arms stretched unconsciously in front of him  and he stared at his thinned, blurry arms as he wept over the images in his mind and the truth that stood in the dim light before him. No, this must be a ghost he told himself I am the gutless monster that took this innocence from this world, I did the deed not even the vilest of those islanders would ever do. I am... I am... he questioned her bandages only briefly but his self loathing over powered logic, he couldn't be forgiven.

Anica had stepped out of the way of the girl and put her lantern between them so she could see the look on her face, see how she would respond to seeing this man. Anica didn't know what transpired that put them in such terrible conditions and the thought that this man was a threat to the girl was still a possibility.
The girl's expression looked shocked, completely shocked, there was nothing else to read at that moment. Was she simply surprised he was conscious and alive after so long? She clearly must have recognized him at least... It was hard to tell.

Anica walked closer to the man, but still stood between them to light the area and encourage the child to approach the man, seeing how they would respond to each other now was important. If he did anything threatening he would be disposed of before morning and the child would be non-the-wiser. If she chose against approaching, Anica would give him a sleep tonic and see how things progressed in the morning.

She didn't know exactly how to respond, before he didn't know her language, so she assumed now he didn't know her language. She wanted to ask what he remembered but most importantly wanted to ask how he was alive now when she knew far too well he had died on that beach. She walked up to him and Anica her eye observing his body and then staring deep into his face... How? How were they both alive? How did all this happen? This had to be some sort of omen! What kind of Omen? A good omen she hoped. An omen about resurrection, about New Beginnings!

She finally stopped beside him reaching her right arm out to him and then grabbing onto his hand for assurance, yup he was definitely real. "H-how?" able to say a few words in the clans language her voice quivered and her eye was filled with concern; tears forming. Had he been beaten beside her? Had he taken on punishment just as she? Were the villagers she lived amongst such savages that they were not satisfied with the beating they gave her, that they went along and beat him as well? Had he not actually died on the beach? Had she been mistaken? Her left arm had been wrapped under the tunic as to prevent her from moving it and so the tunic's left arm laid down empty. She cried with big gator tears bowing her head on the man chest where she laid her arm to cradle her head.

His breath stuck in his throat at her touch, he knew so little about this small stranger, he felt responcible for her ordeal but as she wept on his chest, James leer felt the power of life seeping back into his body. It was like a light was flowing in him. He could never forgive himself but now he knew the revolation of forgiveness, "There was this light, in the sky... and it said the words "lex talionis" and this giant scale told me to come back... I had to... I didn't mean to come back to cause you so much--ch--" he was sobbing again as he hugged her little frame to himself briefly. He forgot she didn't speak the same languages as he did, that she probably only knoew the few words she could speak now because of the locals of where ever they were.

Anica allowed the two a moment to release the emotions they both so desperately needed to let go of. There would be a lot of explaining to do soon but the night was for rest and healing and that was all she would allow now.
The gypsy, unliek the girl, did know what he was saying and in english she trnslated,
"Eye for an eye." to him as she put a hand on the youth's back and soothed her with soft shushes.

James's sobs paused as he breathed in Taka's hair and allowed Anica's words to sink in, he knew those words. The law of balance... of course. The girl was alive, he was alive. But why? With some hic-ups and fluttered deep breaths, he stroked the girl's head and looked to Anica with clear intent to continue their conversation.
Anica nodded to the foreigner in a clear knowing way then walked to the basket at the foot of the cot where she produced a small glass decorative vial that contained sleep tonic.
The lid was round and hollow to pour the correct serving amount in. She handed it to James, "take and sleep, more may come to light when the sun shines."

James nodded and dropped the small dolop of sweet tonic on his tongue and gave the lid back to Anica. He smiled with red watery eyes to Taka and kissed her forehead before wiping his eyes again. The world was sweet again, the way it was when he was a child and he drifted away on a boat of soft voices and dreams.

Anica encouraged the girl to follow her out of the tent and as they approached the exit James whipsered, "thank you" in Italian- his first language. Anica said nothing in reply as she left the tent.
"The Black Dawn,
what a ludicrous title."

She only new small words, everything James was pouring out went right over her head. She understood, Eye for an eye, but how did that explain what happened? Had he asked to be beaten to relieve some of the beatings she was going to take? Did the villagers beat both of them to allow them to still walk another day? She wiped the tears from her eye and walked away from the tent as Anica instructed.
She went over to Pepi and hugged him, the dragon was jolted from his sleep, but he recovered any ferocity as he accepted the girls embrace lightly pressing his chin on her back.

She felt better, and walked to the bunches of blankets left there for her, what would happen tomorrow? Would she go back to the chain of commands she lived by in her village? Would she be unable to speak again and only be allowed to do the tasks the unworthy were only meant to do? Why had she only now thought about her position, why did she think tomorrow would change her life? And how was that man alive?! She let her worries go and sunk deeply in the comfort of the blankets falling into a peaceful sleep...

James didn't sleep long, his body was alive and streaming with energy and a need for life. He rose with the dim light of predawn. The world was cold and wet, where was he now? The geography was all wrong. Exactly how long was he out? He walked the bases of raised shack-like houses, Small fishing boats tied to their stilts. Fishing gear and tackle boxes, banjos and harmonics sat on porches with rocking chairs and long porch swings. Lazy dogs were free to roam around and had no quarrels with him. When he wandered out of the dirt road town, roughing barefoot through some birch tree sheddings and tall weeds, he came to the inevidable field just between swamp patches. There was a wood stand with plants hung upsidedown on strings and the field was filled wth dry colors and pops of purples and soft yellows. There was a smell in this place, it was warm and crips, mixed with the iron smells of dirt and fish. In this field is smelled strongest of sweet and dusky plants that sun bathed all day long. An old broken down wagon was being digested by weeds and over growth, it had faint and stripped imprints of embelishments and gold paint designs. There was a cluster of tall white cranes standing down the field from that wagon, likely to wake up soon for their day. The sun was stating to tumble past the massive trees that lined the clearing

In the morning, Anica cooked up grilled fish, a mix of garlic and frog legs, hashbrowns with bits of egg and mushrooms. The kid that supplied her water meats made a racket at the door, poor sleepy kid must have forgotten about the dragon again. Granted, this was the first night she'd let it sleep on her porch. When she stepped outside she brought her tray of food out and sat it on her little porch table. Setting a plate to the side she prepared the little girl's plate, unroped the fish the teenaged boy dropped at her door step so to spare the rope from the dragon.

She continued down the stairs with her tray of hot food, enterig the healing tent, she sat the food on the little girl's cot which had not been removed yet and walkeed out in hast. The man had just up and left? His medical condition wa sa great mystery to her but this couldn't be good. Wrapping her wool shawl to herself, she checked every boat in the swamp lagoon, every horse, every wagon, she looked for signs that he might have wandered down one of the main roads and finally she came to her field. The main road cut next to it and her slippers were muddy from scouring the mucky bayou. She stopped and let her heart rest, there he was. Sitting in the dew dampened weeds of her field, soaking in the sun and getting his hair be pulled by curious and brazen cranes. She walked to him in the quiet and the cranes all shied and flew away at her approach.
"Your breakfast is getting cold in the tent" she said as she took a seat next to him.
"I'd better go then. I was just enjoying the sun beams."
he said in a half dazed voice as his light green-yellow eyes moved to the gypsy woman beside him, "you look a little flustered Madame Doctor, did my absence unsettle you?"
Anica scoffed as she noticed the stick protruding from her head wrap and began pulling dead leaves and wood flakes out of her matted hair locks, "well you get used to someone always being in the same place, needing your care and then one morning he's not there anymore, you get worried."
She gave him a joking side sneer as she shoved him lightly. He leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek in his process of standing up, "thank you." he offered her a hand up.

It wasn't strange to be kissed on the cheek, not by any means it was actually rather common in her life, Anica wasn't surprised or offended. She stood with his assistance and they walked together.
In their walk they made proper acquaintance after exchanging names, she asked what the little one's name was and James shrugged, "honestly, all she was called on her island was some degrading title I don't think she deserves to be reminded of. It would be better if she was given an adopted new name when she finds a home."

Anica nodded, "then I better start thinking of a name then, hm?"
James blinked, "just like that heh? Be careful, she has that effect on people."
Anica smiled softly, "no Monsieur, I see strength in her, I want her to see it in herself so I will keep her under my wing as they say. Her large friend could learn some manners  as well, there's an arrogance about him so I will keep him as my guest. I'm also fond of her dragon, could use a good guard beast." she laughed slyly.
James felt better, he felt good, he didn't understand how he was here, but he thanked his lucky stars for this Anica and her kindness to him and more so, to the little one. James and Anica went their seperate ways in town.
"The Black Dawn,
what a ludicrous title."
"Have you ever seen a black sunrise,
Mr. Speaks?"
"Precisely my point Mr...
What was it again?"

"Tiberius"
"Ah yes, well,
how does one suppose the light-giving sun should rise black?"
"Why would one suppose it refers to the sun?
Does the dawn not refer to the moment a new day is revealed?

"Indeed it does! Imagine it! A dawn of darkness! Asinine!"

"You've never seen the sky after a pirate raid, mate."

The morning dew; of grass fields with lite water drops and sun light had awoken little Taka. Her eye had been blind from the sunlight, covering it with the shadow of her good arm, a trickle of water came down her cheek. A beautifully peaceful seen had been before her with the sweet delicious smells of the morning meals. Her Deity had cradled her and her blanket with his neck as his head lay at the end sleeping. This was too good to be true, she wanted to stay in this peaceful place for the rest of her life. She smiled; for so long she held her head down, for so long she had always failed, for so long she had suffered countless beatings. Ever since she left that village she had been taken care of she had been loved and accepted, was this dream going to last? Probably not... She had to tell this clan who she was she had to go back to the place she belonged, a place where she would again be trampled on and forgotten. After all she was just a Takka. She got up and collected the blankets she new she would miss and never be given again. And folded them neatly and placed them near the door of Anica's home. Pachi had awoken through her cleaning and watched her.

She then unwrapped the other side of her head and pressed her hand on where the stitches had been and her eye, yes it was still a little puffy, but the swollen skin had definitely gone down. She was now in good enough condition to go back to her chores, though her village wouldn't have given her so much time to heal. She took her tunic off and unwrapped her now much healed broken arm from being concealed to her body, she kept the metal to wooden bracing on it and the other bandages Anica placed. She now put both arms through the tunic and prepared herself she would now have to tell Anica and the others who she was. She was certain they would take back all the good things they shared and gave her. She prepared herself for the heart ache.

Her right eye was red and puffy and where the stitches were in her head had been healed and her hair was growing back, her longer hair had been turning into dreadlocks thanks to Anica's care. Her burgundy tunic fit well around her body now that her arm wasn't making it bulgy. She made up her mind and went to search for Anica; when she wasn't found in the foreigners tent or her home, she went out to the road to go find one of the elders to ask for work. And then she would find Anica to tell her the truth.

Our gypsy apothecary did not see the little one leave, didn't see her on the road, and upon realizing she'd removed her own bandages, found herself once again in a state of haste to find another of her guests.

James ate all of the strangely eclectic food left in his tent, taking a bowl of the fish and potatoes to eat with his fingers as he walked around and introduced himself to these locals. Everyone seemed to know him to an extent, looking surprised and elated to see him walked around. One child who'd just come round a corner bumped into him and almost lost their composure, apologizing again and again with eyes that kept darting about his person with this half cocked smile of disbelief. He ran off shouting "Ama! Ama! That man is alive!"
James laughed and shook his head as he walked on with bright wandering eyes. He was sure he was in the west, this was incredible. How did they get here? It would have taken months on a boat... was it the dragon? That was crazy thinking!

Massive white sails birthed from the monstrous swamp trees in the impossibly small town port. James nearly dropped his bowl and there was suddenly a ruckus from the sleepy bayou town. The tall stilted docks were climbed by men with ropes and bridges were being secured for the sailors to off load from. Laughter and energy was all around in the kids and adults alike. Out from the great ship came men dressed in heavy carpet coats and feathered hats, golden swords sheathed to their hips and pipes full of tobacco and opium were tucked in their breast pockets. They were quick to off load large barges of ale and oats. Crates of linens and silk, furs and silver wares. There would be singing and dancing all through the week; this was in thanks from their gypsy family for something, but what? It was so rare that the pirates came to this port.

Anica paid little mind to the business, she was aware of the ship, she even had a good idea of why it was here, but there was a little girl with an eye socket that needed to be cleaned and kept wrapped. She rushed between preoccupied locals, attention darting below their faces. Where was the girl?
There she was

(Sorry for taking so long, it's been a little hard to reply, the creative juices are not in my favor.)

A rugged man stepped off the ship walking down the steep steps of the bridge that attached to the land. His coat hung long to his feet it seemed he had come from a very cold climate. His head had been covered by a leather pirates hat with a long bird feather accessorizing it. He seemed a little higher ranked than the other men who carried the large containers onto the island. A small frame also covered by a heavy coat followed close behind the man Lite blond locks fell past her shoulders and her fair skin made her look like a princess. The other men returning to collect more cargo to drop off kept a great path for the man and woman to walk; avoiding eyes, and keeping to themselves, well that's what Takka had thought upon observation. She came out of her hiding spot that she had been waiting in to see if one of the elders in the village would finally give her some chores to do. Oh well for now, she thought. Something a little more interesting had taken her full attention.
The man and woman looked like they had a prior engagement heading in one direction without hesitation or detours.
Takka had been mesmerized by the great giant ship that floated at dock. The massiveness and the quantity of the ship and the people amazed her, never in her days had she seen so many people, or such a massive ship! Living in her village she practically knew everyone who lived on the island (even though they were not in the best ways), and the boats that docked there were small fishermen boats. What a crazy feeling, butterflies rose up in her belly as she stood in the morning sunlight feeling enlightened by just how massive this world actually was... And this was just the beginning!

---
His name was Captain Hartwig, and he did have prior engagements; with Anica, but more importantly with James Leer! He eyeballed the young lady he knew well, from trading with the village so often. But a second girl caught his eyes while she came out of one of the villager's houses staring at his Vessel; The Waldhramm. And why shouldn't she? The ship behind him was his pride and joy a beauty that steered many in all other directions! The blond young lady who followed behind him needed some healing herbs that only Anica could provide.
The reasoning for such strong healing tonics was unclear to him, but he was sure his questions would be answered soon enough. His men had been offloading many antiques and other belongings these Gypsy's had requested, he had taken the position as one of their main tradesmen ships, so such trivial belongings became his job to deliver.
As he made it off the bridge his dark leather boots sunk into the mushy soil, he wanted to detour straight to the young girl with the  puffy sunk in eye socket, but his more pressing matters with Leer, and Anica needed to be taken care of first, before he could find out about the young child's recovery. Since it was his ship that picked her up. His curiosity about the creature that kept to her side, her possible crazy story which had yet to be heard made him eager to learn more about them.
"Aye, ye lassy, We have quite the strangest arrangements this time..." his attention went straight to Anica as he removed his captains hat to greet her.
