It was quiet today so far. No new tasks sent to him through private communications, no immanent threat hanging above his head, he had a good stock of supplies, and Temile was for once not combative today. Everything was peaceful, and that set the Sith Lord on edge. Things were never peaceful for him, never. This had to be a mistake, a test, or something much worse. He just didn't have quiet days. It wasn't possible for him and the life he lived, so he could not help but make himself hyper aware of everything around him. He pushed his senses out as far as he could as he paced the small kitchen in circles.

(Temile)(Twi'lek form)

He could feel Temile's presence approaching him from the short hallway and he turned to look for him before he even arrived at the entryway. The young Twi'lek popped his head around the corner before carefully entering the room and heading for the cupboards.

"Why are you pacing?" he asked as he pulled out some protein rations.

Spoob watched him quietly for a few moments, creating an awkward silence before finally replying.

"Things are quiet."

Temile munched on the protein bar before replying with his mouth full, "So?"

"It's...unnatural."

Temile stared at the man who proclaimed himself to be his father incredulously before shaking his head and going back to eating.

"You're so weird."

Spoob rolls his eyes before going back to pacing the room as Temile went to sit down at the table.

"So you going to do that all day?" Munch, munch, munch.

Spoob stopped and turned to look at Temile, eyes narrowed slightly.

"What? It's just a question."

Spoob sighed before pulling out a chair across from Temile and taking a seat.

"And what would you prefer I do, Temile?"

Temile finished up his protein bar and wiped his mouth with his arm before shrugging.

"I don't know. Talk to me?"

"You want...to talk to me?" Spoob frowned.

"Sure, why not? It's not like you got anything better to do." Temile leaned back in his seat and rested his arms on the table. "I mean you don't really ever talk that much 'cept to tell me what to do, or to gush all over me. Eughck."

Spoob went quiet and reflected on what his son said. Did he really only ever talk about those two things to him?

"What...what do you want to talk about?"

Temile shrugged. "I don't know, maybe like about who you are and stuff. You haven't ever really told me about yourself, despite you saying you're my dad now. So uh let's talk about you."

"Well, uh, what do you want to know?" Spoob worried his lip with his teeth.

"Like uh...when were you born? What's your birthday?"

Spoob frowned and tilted his head slightly at Temile.

"I was born 1 BBY, making me 35 standard galactic years old. By standard calendar today is the date of my birth. Is...is this really what you want to know?"

Temile's eyes widened and he sat straight up. "Wait so today is your birthday!? Why are you just sitting around? Don't you want to celebrate!?"

Spoob flinched slightly at the sudden yelling and leaned back against his chair. "Celebrate..? Why would I be celebrating? Nothing has happened."

Temile stared at Orion, open mouthed and blinked slowly.

"Are you serious? Everyone knows you're supposed to celebrate your birthday! It's a tradition!"

Spoob just stares at Temile blankly.

"I wasn't aware of this 'tradition'," he replied softly. Why would he celebrate his birth? Why would the anniversary of one's birth be important? It was necessary for legal reasons but beyond that...he couldn't really see the use of it. "I don't understand, why is it...important? Celebrating such a thing seems...pointless. A waste of time and resources."

Temile shook his head and sighed. "It's called having fun. You know, something normal people do so they don't go crazy."

Spoob frowned and narrowed his eyes. "I don't have time for...'fun'."

Temile huffed and leaned back in his chair as he crossed his arms. "If you have time to be pacing and worrying, then you have time for fun."

Spoob sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Alright then let's put it this way...I don't like having 'fun'."

Temile rolled his eyes. "Everyone likes having fun, you just haven't found things that you think are fun."

Spoob pushed his chair back and got up to pace again shaking his head.

"What? You know it's true! Come on just loosen up! We can go do something! Like uh...ummm...go look at the market! There's got to be something fun in there to do!"

Spoob sighed and shook his head slowly. "You're not going to give up on this... are you?"

Temile puffed up his chest and grinned widely. "Nope!"

Spoob sighed and relented.

"Fine we can go to the market but we will not be there for long nor will we be buying a lot of things. Money is tight and without having a place to exchange for the local currency I don't have much for us to buy things with."

Temile let out a whoop of excitement as he jumped in the air.

"Just wait it's going to be fun! I just know you'll enjoy it!"

The child ran over and grabbed Spoob's hand as he practically dragged him off of the ship all while chattering excitedly about how there had to be cool, weird, local stuff. Worlds without space travel yet always had cool stuff. It was like a given.

A thirty minute walk later and they had arrived at the small marketplace the Baian Swamps had to offer. It wasn't exactly what Temile had imagined, it was far from "primitive", but the colorful shop awnings and the strangely dressed people of species he had never encountered before drew the small alien's attention and created a sense of awe.

Spoob eyed the marketplace uneasily. He couldn't sense any threats, but...it was still an unfamiliar place and he had his son with him. His nearly paranoid fear of losing his son always made him uneasy when Temile was with him.

Temile tugged Spoob over to a stall selling handmade jewelry and he stared at the knotted, and beaded bracelets made from local fibers. He pointed at one with a large bead in the middle carved from a shell. It was carved to look like a bird in flight.

"That's so wizard. It'd look good on you! See, the cord is all reddish like your hair!"

Spoob looked down at the bracelet critically as the Choopa shopkeeper watched them carefully.

"It's five keystones, if it catches ya fancy. Real nice, made right here in these swamps by my wife," the Choopa said as Temile eagerly looked at Spoob.

"Please? It'd look good on you and it's not much," Temile begged as Spoob looked over at his son who put on his best pouty face.

Spoob smiled slightly and then dug into his pants to pull out the five keystones. He handed them over to the shopkeeper who accepted them with a grin.

Temile snatched up the bracelet and demanded Spoob's hand.

"Let me put it on you! It's from me! Well...uh, you paid for it but I picked it out for you!"

Spoob chuckled softly and held out his hand for Temile, who slipped the bracelet on over his hand and tightened it around his wrist.

"There! It looks great on you!"

Spoob nodded with a smile and tentatively pulled Temile into a small hug.

"Thank you, Temile. I love it."

Temile hugged Spoob back tightly before letting go and taking his hand again.

"Let's go find a stall with some food. You have to have some kind of treat on your birthday."

Spoob smiled and laughed softly.

"Okay, okay. Lead the way."

Temile steered them towards a larger stall with lots of food spread out and a rather large Human behind the stall smiled at them as they approached.

"What I can I get you two?" she asked as she looked Temile over. I ain't ever seen anyone looking like that before, she mused silently to herself as the Twi'lek child excitedly eyed the many foods and sweets.

"What's that?" Temiled asked as he pointed to a small fruit pastry.

"That's a strawberry danish, honey."

Spoob looked at the portly woman and smiled at her, though it came across a bit awkward as most of his smiles did. He wasn't sure he liked the way she had looked at Temile and he was wondering if maybe he should take Temile and go to another stall.

"Do you have any cake?" Temiled asked as he scanned the foods put out.

"Just some tea cakes, honey. No real big cakes or anythin'." She pointed at two small tea cakes sitting in the back.

Temile looked at Spoob expectantly with a large smile. He smiled and shook his head playfully.

"How much for the two tea cakes, ma'am?" Spoob asked as he reached into hsi pocket to fish out some keystones.

"Three keystones since your son there is too cute," she replied with a smile.

He handed over the keystones and then took the cakes when the woman passed them forward.

"Have a nice day, honey," she called out as Spoob took Temile's hand and started to guide him away from the stall.

"You too!" Temile shouted back.

Spoob sighed internally as he guided Temile towards a small sitting area with benches and tables to eat.

Once they got seated Temile smiled at Spoob and poked at his cake.

"So...have you had fun?"

Spoob looked up from his cake and smiled softly.

"I did. Thank you, Temile."

Temile grinned and then took a bite of his cake.

"Glad you had fun. You're always too gloomy so I wanted to cheer you up."

Spoob laughed and nodded.

"Gloomy is a good word for it."

Spoob began to eat his own cake and they spent the rest of their time eating in comfortable silence, both enjoying the sweet treat after months of plain rations. All in all, Spoob had to admit this was the best 'birthday' he had ever had.
