Shyla skipped though the jungle, her tail high, and her ears pricked for any sort of noise. She was happy to finally be out of the zoo that her master kept her in. she had no qualms with her master of course, but she was tired of looking at the same landscape. She always had a thirst for adventure, only sated by danger and making new friends. Though she could only speak her native tongue; Albie. She wandered for a while, before stumbling upon a small clear area that had the warm sun shining brightly down on it, warming the tan stone under her pads. A rare sight she thought in the dense forest. Sitting for a moment she took in her surroundings, lush dark green foliage surrounded her, ferns as tall as she was hung in a lopsided circle around the tan stone, leaves littered the ground alongside it. She let her mind wander for a few moments snapping back to reality now and then. She didn’t mind being in the forest alone, but it would have been better with a friend.

Shyla lied down, the sunlight warming her fur. She flipped onto her back, exposing her soft belly fur. She had been limited to a cold yard where rain and snow where a constant, the sun was a welcomed sight. The air around her was thick with water. Most of the plants held water on their leaves, or where two stems split apart. Shyla got up; she could have stayed in the one spot forever, but there was exploring to be done. The forest seemed alive, bird calls and animal barks could be heard coming from nowhere. It calmed her, she was among friends. She shook out her white and blue fur, a poof of dust emitted after the first shake.  Finally it smoothed into place, though her white fur was turned tan. Annoyed she made a note to find a pond, or to take some time to wash it later.

She walked down a narrow dirt path for a while enjoying the many colors of the forest; yellow, red, blue, the list went on. She took her time moseying down the pathway. An odd colored flower caught her eye; it was white with blue that erupted from the stem out onto the wide petals of the flower. It had the pattern of a pure Evelon creature; it made her smile to think that flowers could be the same way.  She sniffed it tentatively not sure if it would harm her or not. It did not seem dangerous, but its smell was intoxicating; it smelled like rain on a hot summer’s day, mixed with freshly peeled orange. An odd mixture she thought but she didn’t question it, she took it all in hoping to suck the smell from the flower and make it her own. The flower seemed solitary; no others like it grew around the plant or off of it.  She looked at it for a long time before leaving it. She felt sad that she had to leave it behind, but she had not seen any others like it and she didn’t want to kill the plant if it was the only of its kind.

The path, as long as Shyla had walked on it didn’t seem to go anywhere in particular; it was a singular path though no others branched out from it. She did assume however that it had to lead somewhere special, or at least somewhere out of the forest. The smell of the flower she had discovered haunted her, but she was content with that. She did not want to forget its smell or its look any time soon. The path took a slight turn to the left; she narrowly missed ramming into a tree trunk. “I must pay more attention.” She mumbled to herself. She knew she wouldn’t though; she was too focused on the plant life around her.  It was almost too much for her to take in, a sensory overload she remembered someone saying a long time ago.  She dared not stray from the path was she on, unless she wished herself to stay in the Tengel Rainforest for the rest of her living days? Of course not, she liked her home; it had warmth and shelter, as well as food.

She was satisfied with looking at the plants that swallowed her in a soft embrace; blocking the sky from her view, and only letting small beams of sunlight filter through to the forest floor. Other than the sparse sunbeams the forest floor seemed to be in an eternal dusk, everything was shadowed. Her eyes had adjusted, but the colors where still muddled and dark for the most part.

Vaguely she wondered if the forest had magical properties. She had heard rumors that some places granted a small amount of power to the creatures that visited. She decided that it did, maybe not the kind specifically that she had heard about, but there was magic in the forest. She had not seen such vibrant colors before, or such a diversity of species anywhere else.  This was coming from an Albie cub though so her experiences where limited.  This was the first place she had visited since being rescued by her master. So she had almost no say in what was magical or not. Things in the forest just felt… appropriate to have the title ‘magical’.

Ethereal as the forest path was, nothing compared to where it spat her out. A small pond; about as long as two Albie if they stood nose to tail tip across it, it looked like a perfect circle to Shyla. She stood there, at the edge of the pond dumbfounded. Her jaw no doubt was hanging open and her eyes bulged stupidly. All her life she never dreamed of such beauty in anything. She would have jumped for joy if she wasn’t worrying about disrupting the absolute peace of the place she had stumbled upon. She put a paw out slowly; she was terrified of the beauty her eyes beheld. The forest turned mute, apprehension tinged the air. She touched her paw to the surface of the water, a flawless ripple spread outwards from the point of impact. Something started to move under the water, golden eyes flashed, meeting hers. She froze, what was this creature staring at her from the depths of the blue pond? Fear raced through her veins, outpacing and outmatching any logic that held to her very being. She was stiff, nothing more than a statue of the Albie she had been.

The golden eyes she saw did not break contact with her own blue eyes. She noticed for the first time that she was holding her breath. Breathing out slowly, she worked on calming her mind; this was not an easy task. She blinked after a long time of just staring; When she opened them again the eyes where gone, the pond had settled, and the forest sighed with relief. A weight lifted from her body, she did not want to take her eyes off of the pond however. Terrified that if she turned her back the creature would reappear and steal her away into the pond.

Peace flooded her instead of fear, the pond seemed normal, at least for the time being. She glanced around herself; the path she had been following was gone. She had no way out of the forest, no panic ensued. Only a tiring calm filled her mind. “Everything will be ok.” A voice said to her. It was a very delicate voice, like a breath could break it. So she didn’t breath, scared that the voice would leave her. “You have nothing to fear little one,” It said to her. A path opened up before her; at the end she could see sunlight. Even from a distance her eyes had to squint to adjust.  She realized that she had been in the very darkest part of the forest. “Thank you.” She breathed out staring down the pathway.

“Go on then, there is nothing more for you in this forest… at least not for now.” The voice said she knew that whatever the voice’s creator was it had left her. The calmness didn’t leave her mind though. She walked down the path; it was a shorter walk than she had anticipated. Leaving the forest behind her, she walked out into the full light of day, looking behind her the path was gone, only a thick wall of vines and other deep green plants. The forest was protecting itself from the outside world, and the border seemed like the protective skin of the whole being. It no longer looked like a congregation of plant to Shyla; no it was something far greater than that. She walked away from the forest, questions flooded her mind, and slowly the calm left her mind as she walked over the vast plain in front of her. She was headed back to her master, with questions that she doubted the world had answers for.
