Rises of War [Training]

Postby Nyxia » 07/07/2013 3:00 PM

It was barely nearing dawn when she found herself in rainforest, not quiet in the spot she'd picked out on the map but so far nothing was going as planned either. "This looks as good a place as any." She sighed as she sat down on one of the fallen trees in order to take in the view better. For being a tropical area the forest was nice and cool at this early hour, something Rin was deeply glad for. "Plenty of open are, and very few allies who could get caught in the crossfire, don't you think so Archer?" She asked looking back down the trail she'd followed to this point. She was trying overly hard to see at ease and sunny as she spoke, since Archer had been in a foul mood since the summoning. It was hardly her fault that the universe had freaked out a little when two high level summonings happened at the same moment, but it still seemed he wasn't going to let something as simple as facts get in the way of his temper.

Further down the trail Archer grumbled at the back of his new master, not in any real hurry to keep up with her as they wandered into this place. He couldn't understand her reasoning in the least bit, sign him up for a war and then insist on coming all the way out here to train. The camp had a perfectly good training area, but she claimed he'd likely wreck the place; the only way he saw that happening was if she was completely incompetent and gave the wrong commands. "Whatever you say...master." He snarled at her as she sat down to rest, this was not just a waste of his time but a telling sign of how untrained she was to him. "So what is better than the facility at the camp?" He growled watching her sitting there looking lost. He was just about to drop down and sit when he saw her rise, the look in her eyes was barely contained anger; good he'd riled her, now maybe he'd see some actual power.

For Rin this couldn't have been worse, between being in a strange world and having a servant who disrespected her she was at her limit for nice. Still it wouldn't help her to argue with Archer and his acidic tongue, they wouldn't get any way if she started yelling now. "I figure I can summon stronger enemies out here, things that would challenge your skills." She told him keeping her tone neutral as she stood up and walked to the bag she'd brought out here, among the many things was the old tome her father had left behind when he'd died. For only a moment she let her fingers linger on the spine and the ghostly memories sent shivers down her spine. The moment passed quicker than most had and Rin stood up again with the tome in hand, "If you're ready, then get in place and I'll summon something small." Now her own sarcasm bit through for a moment as she watched Archer sigh and find a good spot in the little clearing she'd brought them to. When seemed like he'd found a spot she opened the book and started to weave the spell in the air.

He'd found the best place in the clearing he could, and before he could give her a signal a small ethereal bear appeared across the natural ring from him. At the sight he turned and gave her a mocking and annoyed look, then turned back and called his twin short swords. When the swords materialized the ghost like fragment turned on him, and quickly Archer found that his foe was fast. Barely missing the swipe from those see-through claws by crossing the swords in front of his face to catch them, he tried to push the creature back. Instead the bear knocked him to the ground and began to tear at his weapons and arms with blinding speed.

As the battle began, Rin thought about using the standard of their war. Just as quickly she changed her mind, in a real battle she would command him; but for now she just wanted to see him get use to the limits of this world. It was clear to her that he was still to confident without a real sense of the limits of a physical body, the bear had him down already. "Focus, Archer!" She yelled to him hiding her smug smirk. "Remember its just like the arena, just guard!" That seemed a little too close to a command, and Rin shut her mouth again but stayed on her feet. He wasn't doing as well as she'd hoped when she noted that he couldn't seem to get out from under the bear, a complication in the plan when his guard didn't do much of anything. "Try breaking through it's attack!" Once again Rin found herself commanding him, and in the heat of battle it seemed he was responding as she watched.

The struggle for Archer was every bit as real as it would have been in the arena, struggling not only for his own well being but his master. In those moments everything about this world dropped away, and when he heard Rin call out for him to break the attack he was more than happy to follow as he used one of his swords to block the creature's claws. Bringing the other up from under the creatures wide arms, he managed to send the creature swirling away in a pale mist. With the creature gone Archer turned to face her, and for the first time since he'd been called he felt that she was a good choice of a master. "Alright, what's next?" He asked with a smug smile, more relaxed after the battle. As he watched her go for her book again, Archer couldn't help but shake his head. "You know what I think? We should find some of the local creatures and see how it goes against flesh and bone." He offered with a slight shrug as she stared at him in silence. It wasn't that the bear has been to tough, it was really that he didn't know how he'd stack up against something of actual flesh; that and he really wanted to kill something.

His suggestion for a moment caught her off guard, as did his less growling tone of voice. "Yeah, we can try." She found herself responding before she thought about it too much, she was just grateful he was in a better mood. "Uh..." When reality caught up however, Rin was aware that she had no idea what creatures they should be looking for. "Alright...let's just look around a bit and see what we find?" It was more of a question, since the other option was to hike all the way back to the base and find someone who would know. She didn't want to realize she didn't actually know if anything worth fighting was out here, let alone what it might be. Instead she went to gather her bag, and replaced the tome inside wrapped back in her father's silk scarf. From it she retrieved a small paper back book which Quirin had given then when they'd left his home, flipping through the maps and the known creatures as she sought out this place. "It says there are several creatures we may find out here." She finally commented as she closed up the book and set it back in her bag. She was glad when after that Archer chose to lead them deeper into the area, since she really didn't know what they were seeking.

He didn't say anything about her not knowing where they were going, let alone what might be out here. Archer was too ready to fight to care about anything else, and for the moment she was proving to be a useful Master after all. He waited just long enough for her to pick up her bag before he started off ahead of her, she hadn't said to where which told him she didn't know. Which was why he lead the way, hacking a few low branches and some haphazard vines out of the path he'd chosen.

He was overly eager to find something he could "kill" in this world, that he didn't give Rin time to point out the direction the book told her to take. Well, it wasn't like beasts stayed in one place anyway so she guessed it didn't matter where they went. Silently she followed behind him as he destroyed his way through the forest, feeling as if this could work out after all. In truth Archer had made her feel like the dumbest Magi ever, so when he wasn't making snarky remarks she felt a bit better about her own abilities.

The trail he was making to a sharp turn left to avoid the pit that dropped miles below them, before following a narrow stretch down along its side, likely cut out by rain water. Glancing back at his master, Archer noted that she was showing difficulty in keeping up. Normally that was a time he would have told her just how useless she was, but instead he said nothing just slowed down his pace. In slowing he decided to take a few extra chunks out of one of the trees while he let her catch up, "Take it easy, Master. Don't want you to fall over." He told her without looking back when he sensed her close, his tone colored with dry amusement as he started up again.

She didn't say anything, instead looked over the edge of the pit and blinked. The hole on its own wasn't much to look at, and still it gave her a shiver because of how deep it went. That was when she hurried after Archer, keeping close to him and off to his right away from the pit. The trail he was making would go for miles, she noted watching him hack and slash his way through everything he came across. She could tell he was excited, trying to scare something out of the brush to fight. All he'd managed so far, was to scare a handful of very lovely looking Polly's from their branches, who were now in her opinion glaring down at them.

The birds weren't much, and when Archer caught her looking up at them he almost laughed. Not the type he figured to be frightened of birds, but then he realized he didn't know anything about what type she was. Nothing worth stopping for so far made him wonder what could actually be out here, and then he saw something about six miles below them moving through the underbrush. "C'mon. I found something." He called back to her as he watched her skirt the trees which the birds sat in. Another look at his target told him it was medium height, feathery looking, and from the sounds of it moving around below fairly large. All he hoped was whatever it was, it wouldn't turn out to be someone's pet or some docile creature that would run.

When Archer called out to her Rin immediately jumped, causing the Polly's in the tree to suddenly burst into flight above her. Managing to keep from screaming, she rushed haphazardly to where Archer was nearly running into him. When he reached out and braced her with his arm, stopping her from rushing over the drop that lead to nothing but foliage. "Wh-what? What do you see?" She asked looking straight down the drop, her breath coming in puffs. It took her a second to actually look where he was pointing, to the moving brush that now covered whatever he'd seen. As she tried to make out what sort of creature it was, Archer snatched her left arm and started jogging down the improvised trail after it.

He didn't have time to explain as the beast wondered into the brush out of their sight, Archer knew he had to catch up before it was completely gone. Without thinking he snatched Rin's arm and began to jog down the washed out trail, not bothering to duck under the small branches or push aside small twigs which snapped across his face and arms. It wasn't a quick dash but after a bit they had finally made it down the trail. Archer scanned the dense jungle growth for movement the moment his feet were on level ground, no sign from down here of movement caught him though. Just then he heard a soft snap and the soft ruffle of waxy leaves ahead of them to the left, without so much as grabbing Rin he was off again. She wouldn't get lost, he knew she was moving right behind him when he heard her heeled boots shuffling aside the dead leaves and fallen brush.

She was quick to follow him when she saw him starting silently into the jungle, it made her nervous to be so far into this jungle without a map or someone from the camp knowing where they were. Still it had been her idea to come out here and adapt Archer to this world, now she just had to remember how they'd gotten here. She didn't have any idea what Archer was following, or how he knew it was this way because she couldn't hear it herself. Now though she stopped every so often to mark a tree with a small pen knife she carried, or to tear a leaf on a nearby plant in a special way. All she could hope was that whatever this thing was, it wasn't some sort of hulking easily enraged beast that might kill them. She also hoped she was making a trail easy enough to follow back, otherwise they would have to find their own way out.
