Scotch is over examining other plants along the shore line while Morgaine is busying herself with the lotus. He passes by many interesting plants, but he is on a mission so he does his best to ignore their appeal and look for bleeding heart. While digging through some brush he spies the delicate heart shaped flowers. Excellent, another plant to cross off that list. He looks over his shoulder to see if Morgaine was all finished up. "I found bleeding heart. I'll take some of the blooms and bring them to you. Unsheathing his claws he cuts one branch that was full of flowers. He picks up the branch and brings it to Morgaine where she is waiting with the basket.

"Excelent!" Morgaine opens the basket so that Scotch can put the branch in. She pulls out the list of plants that she is looking for from inside the basket and scratches out bleeding heart and lotus. "This is going much faster and smoother than I expected." She slings the basket over her shoulder "Are there any other plants that we can find here that we can cross off the list?"

Scotch reaches back into the basket and grabs out the list. He examines what species what they had left to find. "We should be able to find cinnamon bark and vanilla beans here." He puts the list back into the basket. "Both species thrive in these jungle conditions. The rest of the species need a slightly drier environment." He begins to follow a over grown trail that leads away from the waterfall to the west. "This is an old Taigra trail. Lets follow it instead of trying to make a new one. It would probably be safer and we would be less likely to get lost."

Morgaine nods her head in agreement and follows him down the trail. The light slowly started to fade as the tree growth had begun to block the light down to the bottom of the forest floor. She looked up amazed at how tall these trees were. They reminded her of the kelp forests of her home."This forest is very mysterious."

Scotch payed attention to the trail very carefully as it was fading in and out due to its age. He was becoming more nervous about using it. "I think that we should stop here and look for your plants. This trail is starting to fade and I'd rather not become lost today. Thankfully, cinnamon and vanilla are fairly abundant in this area so we should find it without having to wander out far."

"That a good thing. I'd prefer not to get lost today." Morgaine spies a large tree with a split trunk, the bark is a light reddish brown with lots of dark green leaves. "Scotch I may have found a cinnamon tree." She walks towards the trunk of the tree to see what it smelled like. However when she got there it smelled like... well, like wood. Morgaine was disappointed, she thought that she had found it.  "I was wrong. This tree doesn't smell like cinnamon."

Scotch walked up next to her "Cinnamon trees don't have that distinct smell until you dry the bark." He examines the bark carefully. He would have prefered to examine the leaves too, but they were out of his reach. "This looks like a cinnamon tree to me. Harvesting the bark can be tricky and if done incorrectly you can damage or even kill the tree. So I had better harvest this." He sticks out his claws from his right paw and begins to cut into the wood. He carefully removed the first layer of bark. "What you need is the second layer of bark. It's where all the flavor and aromas are." He carefully cuts into the second layer of bark and peels back a small section handing it to Morgaine. "This will need to be dried for six hours before you use it."

Morgaine takes the strip of bark and puts it into her basket. "Thank you very much Scotch."   This was going rather smoothly. Now find vanilla and then they could head to the second half of their journey. She knew that vanilla was a vine, but she wasn't sure what it looked like. So she decided to stick next to Scotch for this hunt. "So what kind of vine should I be keeping an eye out for?"

Scotch walked back toward the path that they needed to follow out of the forest. "We're looking for a bright green vine, medium thickness with large and long leaves. Vanilla, also, happens to be an orchid species so we need to be looking for orchid flowers fruiting from the vine, since what you need is the seed pod." As he walks past palm he realizes he's found what he was looking for and back tracks to it. "Here we are." He walks around the vine searching for seed pods. He finds none within his sight, however the tree did go very high up and there could be some closer to the top of the vine. "Morgaine, is it possible for you to levitate and if so can you levitate high enough so that you can reach the top of this vine?"

"Not a problem." She waves her paws over from the water in the waterfall to where she was standing. As she did this she brought over the water and began to use it like an elevator to lift herself up the tree. About half way up she notices three long brown pods, this had to be what Scotch was talking about. She picks them and brings herself back down to the ground. She sends the water back to where it belonged with a small flick of her paw. "I believe this is what we were looking for." She passes the pods to Scotch while she retrieves the plant list from her basket and crosses off vanilla.

Scotch examines the pods "Yep, this is definitely vanilla pods." He shivers slightly as he watches the water travel back to the waterfall. It was unnatural, all this magic business. He puts the pods into basket and turns back to the path. "We should head off toward the ecotone, it's getting fairly late." After starting when the sun had just risen it was now fully overhead. They had to have been at it for five to six hours. Although he could stay out all day, and night if required, Neo would worry if he took too long. Thankfully there was not much left on the list and he would be paid well for the time he spent out with Morgaine.

Morgaine saw Scotch shudder as she used her magic and bit back the urge to laugh. She shook her head in agreement to his suggestion on wrapping up the expedition. Her paws were starting to ache and she was ready to head home. She followed after him. She knew that they would not find all the plants she wanted to today, but there were always more opportunities to go out and explore. She shifted the basked draped over her shoulder. It was starting to get heavy. "Holler if you find anything else on our way to this ecotone."

As they continue down the path Scotch keeps his eye out for anything that might be on the list, however it seems that they were coming up empty. He sighed as he kept on walking. Suddenly out of nowhere his stomach started to growl. Well, that was embarrassing. "Um sorry about that. I guess I stomach is giving out on me."

Morgaine laughed at Scotch's gurgling that came from his stomach. "I suppose we should stop for the day. We can always head into the city and go find something to eat." She did have more plants to collect. However they had been at this for several hours and did not come prepared with snacks. This would be a good place to pause their adventure. "We can always go to that sandwich shop you like so much."

"That sounds wonderful." His stomach growled again. "I suppose I should feed this thing before it yells at me anymore." He had to laugh at himself for all this silliness. He followed the path out to the main trail that would lead them out of the forest. "This was very enjoyable. I will always make time to help you collect plants." With that they headed out into the city.
