“You got any money on you?” she said, giving Faber a nudge. He paused, then fished around in his pockets and came away with a handful of crumpled bills and change. Most of the bills were small, just ones and fives. Abruptly she remembered how she had first met him, and realized this must have been the money he made from busking. “Nevermind,” she said, shoving his hand back at him. “I'll treat. Let's just go.”
Of course, there was still the business of explaining to Elliot what the next few days were going to entail. He was still sitting in the living room, pretending to read his book, but she could see that he'd been staring at the same page for a while now.
