Return to Tengel Rainforest

ooc--nah, not too sappy at all.

Kaomjii nodded knowingly, leftover food did indeed make quite a lovely fertilizer. He thought back to his flower garden at home, the one his freinds teased him about. It brought a lot of tasty bees. . .

Kaomjii's eyes went wide with expression. "Where did he go?" he almost whispered, unaware of trampling on possibly forbidden ground.

My wraiths, though not wraiths then, wandered deep into the heart of the polar storm. They tried to fight sleep, naive to the inevitability of their fate. When they awoke, they saw before them my own self, so much a part of the ice and cold they almost fail to see me. I wear a crown of the coldest, sturdiest ice, and my claws and fur have coated themselves in it.
I stand aloof to the cold, for I have lived in it so long, been a part of it so long, it no longer concerns me.

My wraiths are cursed to wander the polar tundra, eternally freezing, following mortal explorers and trying to warn them with their presence that they should not travel onward, should not make the same mistake. But there will always be those who persist in pressing on, never knowing what they are doomed to face, or destined to suffer.

Hearing Kaomjii, Chime went rigid, straightening her back and shoulders. She forced herself to relax more because she knew that the Batti did not realize how tender the subject was. She looked up in surprise, however, when she felt a motion in front of her.

What she saw was Ochite, standing in front of her...in human form. In her shock, she dropped the roll of bandage she was holding, and reached out to touch his black jacket that was flung over his shoulders like a cape. "You...have a human...form." she muttered, dazed. Having just woken up, with injuries, and no memory, how could he have a human form? At least, she didn't think it was possible. As for Ochite, he simply shrugged and sat, looking into her eyes. "You don't have to answer the question." he murmured softly. Chime shook her head as she remembered. Turning to Kaomjii, she attempted a smile. "He...didn't just leave. He's gone...forever." she hoped that would be a good explanation, as it was a tender subject for her.
Out of the corner of her eye, she examined the fellox human, noting his aqua eyes, purple hair, loose black pants, and a white shirt with a lighter black jacket on. Such casual clothing, she thought.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

Kaomjii relaxed when he realized both humans in front of him were not true human, only on the outside. He drew in his breath when he suddenly realized what Chime meant by "gone." "I'm so sorry!" he cried out, unsure if he apologized for asking or for the great loss she endured. "Is there--what--" he stuttered, and stopped trying. He could hardly get his head back on strait, let alone say something that made sense.

"KAAAAAAAAAOMJIIIIIIIIIIIIII!"

Kaomjii jumped over a foot. His cavemates had been looking for him ever since he'd gone, and he gasped in shock when he realized that had been hours ago. "I'm so sorry!" he said, panicked, "I really must go!" The little batti tripped over a log and jumped right back up again. He brushed leaves and twigs off his fur as he ran, looking over his shoulder and shouting apologies to Chime and Ochite. Kaomjii tried to fly but only took a few ungainly steps. He hopped once, twice, and this time made it into the air. After a last shouted apology the hollow batti swooped around a clutch of large trees and vanished from sight.

ooc-- I gotta pull my little guy, sorry I jumped out in the middle! :(

((Ah that's alright~))

Chime smiled lightly as Kaomjii began to panic when he realized he'd been out too long. She watched him fly away and called out after him. "Bye Kaomjii! It was nice to meet you!" she barely finished her sentence when he vanished into the trees. Then she turned to Ochite, who was casually leaning back and watching the trees where the batti had left, a ever so faint smile on his lips. Noticing a healing wound on his arm, she remembered the bandages she had dropped. Picking them up, she cleaned them off and knelt at the fellox human's side. He began to pull his arm away with a subborn look on his face, then gave it to her with a sigh. "I'm fine. It doesn't hurt." he said, then he watched her as she quietly put the bandages on his wounds.
About to pull his arm away again to insist that he was alright, he noticed a tear roll down Chime's cheek. Slowly, he reached out and brushed it off. Chime's head snapped up in surprise at his touch, and winced at the look in his eyes as they met hers. It was a familiar look, but she could not place it. They sat there for a while, his hand against her cheek, where tears were now flowing freely, and her hands gripping his other one. Their gaze never broke either, despite the raindrops that were beginning to fall between the branches above.

Finally, Chime turned, feeling like her heart was in her throat. She felt Ochite's eyes on her back as she stood and began to put things out of reach of the rain. When she turned back to him, she realised he had moved to a part of the clearing that had a thicker canopy, but had not stopped watching her. She winced and quickly turned around again, prodding the long-since extinguished fire with a stick. Then she felt him standing behind her.
"What's wrong?" he asked, making Chime wince. She shook her head. "Nothing." she whispered, trying to focus on prodding the fire pit.
"You're crying." his voice sounded half concerned, half sad. Chime froze, then reached up to her cheek. Sure enough, a steady torrent of tears was comming from her eyes. She started to shake her head again and move away when suddenly, Ochite pulled her against his chest. "Are you sure you're alright?" he whispered in her ear. She hesitated, then nodded nervously. She hoped he hadn't noticed, but he did and pulled away with a rejected sigh. Putting his hands on her shoulders, he spun her around and gazed into her eyes. Those eyes are still so sad. He thought as he attempted a smile. "I understand, and if you ever need my help, just come find me...I owe you." he added the last part hesitantly, and Chime knew why now. She still noticed one detail though. "Come find you?" she asked. He nodded. "I should go." he murmured, and turned to leave.
"No!" He turned as he heard Chime shout. She figeted nervously, then ran towards him. "I'll go with you." she said, smiling half-heartedly. Her heart fluttered as she saw his face light up and a smile on his lips. I've never seen him smile like that before...I like it. She smiled at her thoughts and followed him obediantly into the forest, pausing to scoop up a bag under a plant. Ochite didn't bother to ask why she had a bag already packed.
