“Iggy. I like that,” Lily reaffirmed with a smile, letting the name settle into her memory. “Hopefully it won’t come to either of those situations,” she chuckled. “I’m not very easily provoked, you’ll find, and I seem to have a decently good knack for avoiding life-threatening situations.” Both true facts. Being who she was, she generally understood people too well from their perspectives to find the indignation to be angry with them, and for the most part, she lived a pretty quiet, unobtrusive life. In fact, this encounter was probably the most exciting thing which had happened to her in a long time. After a while, life tended to fall into rather predictable patterns.
It didn’t take Lily but a moment to sense Iggy’s change in demeanor from jovial to slightly apprehensive. It was at this point that she knew they were finally getting to the meat of the matter at hand, and judging by his reaction, she braced herself for whatever he mind have under his sleeve. However, having lived a life of counseling others, she’d been exposed to quite a few ‘shockers’ herself, so she figured whatever it was he had in mind couldn’t be as bad as he assumed. Or at least, that was what she expected. Of course, she’d never had any dealings with ‘supernatural’ beings in the past, so nothing could really have prepared her for what he was about to say.
Okay, so the vampire bit was unexpected – she might have questioned it if she didn’t know exactly what was going on in his head when he was recounting to her, and his thoughts proved that he was indeed telling the truth. It was a fact which would take a little time to come to terms with, but surprisingly enough, it wasn’t a deal breaker. After all, she was something of a freak of nature herself, so she had no right to judge. However, for Lily, that wasn’t the most interesting part of what he had to say. What followed was what truly caught her by surprise, and after he fell silent, having spoken his part, she didn’t speak for a moment or two. The new information swirled in her mind as she tried to piece it all together, trying to come to terms with these strange facts.
To her credit, her demeanor remained quite calm the entire time, and her silence was more pondering than it was suspicious or fearful. When she finally seemed to gather her thoughts, she looked up at her anxious companion, suddenly seeing the new fear of rejection shining in his eyes. She knew that feeling well – it was one which she’d come to terms with herself, although her way of dealing with it was by hiding the truth from the world. After all, normal folk generally didn’t take terribly well to ‘freaks’ like herself. A small, reassuring smile touched her lips as she observed her companion, a million questions suddenly swimming through her head. “I think that’s fascinating,” she finally said, and truthfully so. “Needless to say, you’re the first vampire I’ve ever met…and the first vegetarian one, to boot.” She chuckled lightly. “If you would care to share, I would love to know more about how your…”feeding process” works. It sounds utterly intriguing. What is it like to feed off of emotions? How do you choose your subjects? Do you have preferences for any particular types?” She dwindled off, realizing that she was flooding the poor man with questions. There was no denying that the subject fascinated her though, and she hoped that he took her enthusiasm as encouragement rather than mockery or threatening.
(Sorry about the wait! Just finished up my second week of a brand new semester. All these grad classes are getting to me. X.x But hopefully now that I've got a regular schedule, I'll be responding more regularly. ^^)
