Cody's breath hitched audibly, shuddering as his chest expanded with breath, and let it out slowly, dampness clouding his eyes. He pressed his face into the balled up shirt to stifle a whimpering noise, trying to deal with the fact that he could barely feel Zane's hand on his back. It was there, of course; he felt the warmth of it. But everything felt detached, the scarred skin creating a kind of barrier between Zane's touch and what Cody felt. When he felt strong arms wrap around his waist, he couldn't hold back the soft sob that leaked out of him, hunching his back as he buried his face in the shirt, trying to focus on the gentle feeling of Zane's hair tickling the nape of his neck. He shouldn't be crying, really, he shouldn't, but the simple catharsis of the contact seemed to open some floodgate in his heart, letting it ache freely with feelings long buried. Slowly, he lowered the shirt back to his lap, his shoulders jumping with each breath he took, and he moved a hand to brush his fingers against Zane's wrist, then held it, gently squeezing it in recognition and gratitude.

Zane stayed there for a long time, just holding Cody as he cried. He held onto Cody's hand tight, trying to even out his breathing. Gently, his touch gentle, he pressed a kiss to Cody's back, then Cody's spine, trailing up to Cody's shoulders and the back of his neck. He stopped there, not wanting to initiate anything sexual, but just stayed there for a moment, his chest pressed against Cody's back and his forehead resting on the back of Cody's head. "Are you okay?" he murmured, not able to see if Cody was feeling better or not.

Cody felt his heart jump in his chest in surprise as he felt the faint brushing of lips against his back. He shivered, but actually found a tiny smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, his warm face a pleasant momentary distraction from the tumultuous feelings in his chest. "Yeah," he said softly, his voice a little rough, and he leaned back slightly, gently pressing against Zane's chest. He reached up his free hand to wipe his eyes, drawing in a slow breath and letting it out. "Um... th-thank you, Zane," he whispered, his fingers gently gripping Zane's hand, holding it in his lap. "Th-this... this helped me, I think. I feel... I-I feel pretty good, believe it or not," he added with a slight laugh, then sighed softly, his smile falling to a quiet expression. "I-I'm... I'm glad it's you, e-even though I know it... probably isn't nice to look at, a-at all... B-but I'm happy, th-that you..." Cody trailed off, his cheeks warming softly. That you kissed me, he wanted to say; to think that Zane would do something so gentle and kind as kiss the angry, red scar tissue on Cody's back, as if it were something that deserved a kiss... it set his heart glowing in his chest. Unable to voice these thoughts, Cody slowly twisted around, bringing a hand up to touch Zane's face in warning before he tilted his head to barely brush his lips against Zane's. "Thank you..."

Zane listened to Cody, holding the smaller boy tight in his arms. Ah... that was a relief. He had done something right. Zane shifted as Cody twisted in his arms, his dark brown eyes flickering slightly as he saw Cody's puffy eyes and the tearstains on his pale skin. He was already leaning forward to kiss Cody when he felt Cody's gentle touch against his cheek. Zane sighed, closing his eyes and losing himself to the gentle flutter of his heart in his chest, and the soft press of their lips. When they separated, Zane smiled, then nuzzled Cody gently. "No need to thank me," he mumbled, leaning back against the bed, still holding Cody close.

Cody's eyes fluttered open as they pulled softly away, and he blinked, then couldn't help a soft chuckle as Zane nuzzled him. He carefully accommodated Zane as the other boy leaned back, and he abandoned his shirt on the bed to gently twist around fully in Zane's lap, curling up partially on top of him with a soft expression in his tired eyes. The fever was making him the slightest bit loopy, he supposed, and with the sudden burst of raw emotion before, everything felt lighter and dizzier now. He reached up and gently brushed hair out of Zane's face, forgetting to be self-conscious about his bare torso as he smiled softly up at Zane. "I-I have every need to thank you," he said softly, leaning up on his knees to gently kiss above Zane's brow, hands reaching up to hold the sides of Zane's face.

Zane's eyes followed Cody's every movement, cataloging every shift and inch of Cody's skin. He looked so beautiful. Almost like an angel, with that long blonde hair and startlingly blue eyes. Zane wrapped his arms around Cody, sighing. "No need to thank me," he mumbled, a sheepish smile worming onto his face as Cody's hands and lips touched his face. His cheeks were already warm. He sighed, then reached to drag the blankets up over both of them. He looked back at Cody, then kissed his nose with a small chuckle. "I'm your boyfriend, of course I'd want to do this."

Cody made a kind of pouting expression at Zane's insistence, and he flushed, the pout worming into a smile. He blinked as the covers were drawn over his shoulders, a soft 'ah' sound escaping him, before he suddenly realized how tired he was. He looked down at Zane's face, blond hair falling around his thin shoulders. Was... was something like this really alright...? He was too sleepy to really think about it much... Slowly, he shifted so that he could curl up beside Zane, everything feeling overly warm but quite comfortable under the cool sheets. "I'm glad you're here," he said softly, one arm curling on Zane's chest, his fingers lightly brushing his shirt. He blinked hard, trying to clear his head, to ask if Zane was okay with sleeping in his bed with him... but before Cody could stop himself he was already slipping into a light doze, the medicine making him drowsier than usual.

Zane was still as Cody grew comfortable, wrapping one arm around the smaller boy and settling back against the pillows. He let out a breath, expression warm. "Yeah," he mumbled, his chest growing warm at Cody's words. He leaned forward to press a kiss to Cody's forehead, then leaned away to turn the lamp off. A small nightlight automatically switched on in the far corner, casting a warm, yellow glow across the room. Zane sighed, feeling Cody's breathing slow against him, then stared up at the ceiling. It was his first time sleeping in a bed that wasn't his own, now that he thought about it. Zane glanced down at Cody, his blonde hair shining slightly in the dim light. "Goodnight, Cody," he whispered, voice soft and drowsy. He was glad that he was there, too.

Cody's eyes fluttered open slowly at the change in lighting, and he glanced up at Zane's face in the darkness. He blinked again when the nightlight turned on, and he relaxed slightly, now able to see Zane's features a tiny bit better. He shifted slightly, tucking his face into Zane's shoulder, a soft sigh escaping him. "Love you," he mumbled quietly, burrowing under the covers better as a small draft brushed his bare skin. He turned his face to press a sleepy kiss to Zane's shoulder, then sighed out quietly, his body relaxing. He finally slipped into a deeper sleep, the fever dreams hazy and placid enough that Cody was able to sleep through the whole night, tucked carefully in the crook of Zane's arm.

Zane let out a small chuckle as Cody kissed his shoulder, his hands brushing against Cody's side as he watched Cody gently slip into sleep. Zane quickly followed, pulled down by dreams. When he woke, a gray light spilled through the window, partially blocked by the blinds. Zane looked around, a small frown on his face as he squinted at the unfamiliar surroundings. He felt Cody shift against him, and he looked down at the sleeping blonde. Oh right. Zane let out a breath, running a hand over his face. He kind of just... ended up like this, didn't he? Zane glanced back at Cody, his expression softening. Carefully, Zane brushed a hand over Cody's cheek, feeling for signs of the fever. It wasn't as bad as last night, thank goodness. Zane settled back, carefully, and contemplated simple things in the silence of Cody's bedroom.

It was awhile before Cody woke up. Despite being a light sleeper, he didn't stir when Zane touched his cheek. After a moment he seemed to become aware of the gentle rise and fall of Zane's chest beside him, and he blinked open his bleary eyes, squinting at the soft, cold light coming through the window. Cody licked his dry lips and stayed very still, his eyes flicking up to stare at Zane's face angled towards the ceiling. He felt his heart flutter slightly in realization that they'd just slept in the same bed, like it was nothing. Like it was everything. A tiny smile settled on Cody's lips as he gazed at Zane's eyelashes, and he shifted, a small yawn escaping him. "Good morning," he called out softly, keeping close to Zane to keep away the draft of chill air that threatened to worm under the blankets.

"Hm?" Zane made a sound, looking over at Cody with a sleepy smile. He covered his mouth with one hand as he took a deep, yawning breath, and then rolled over onto his side to speak to Cody better. "Good morning," he mumbled, his voice a little rough from disuse. "How'd you sleep?"

"Better than in awhile," Cody murmured, a chuckle in his voice. He sighed through his nose and shifted under the covers, his eyes flickering softly as he glanced Zane up and down, a flush collecting on his cheeks. "Th-thanks for... um... s-staying," he murmured, shrugging a shoulder and glancing away. "I-I know, 'no need to thank me,' right?" he chuckled, gently reaching out to nudge Zane's shoulder with a hand, and resting it there, rubbing a thumb over the fabric. "But I'm doing it anyway..." Cody blinked sleepily, then shuffled a little closer, tucking himself into the alcove of Zane's body to quiet himself.

"Hmm," Zane mumbled with a chuckle, letting Cody nudge and snuggle against him. He was too sleepy to do anything at the moment. "Well... you're very welcome." Zane sighed, then let out a huge, groaning yawn, his back arching slightly as he stretched out on the bed. "I should thank you; your couch is really comfy, but I don't remember the last time I slept so well."

Cody made a small noise of surprise as Zane stretched, giggling slightly as he moved away enough to give him a little bit of room. He looked up at Zane's words, blinking, and a sunny smile spread over his face. "I-I'm glad," he murmured, and his expression grew sheepish, shy, as he glanced down at his hands, curled on the sheets. He was silent for a long moment, cheeks heating up. "I-I... if... u-um, i-if you're... comfortable with it, I-I wouldn't mind sharing my bed... w-with you. I want you to. I-I mean! Um!" Cody's face flushed red, and he ducked it into his hands; apparently his old demeanor was back. "Oh, d-darn it..."
