The Children (Nyxia & I)

Postby Sarah » 10/01/2016 11:12 PM

Wolf looked at the door once again before letting himself relax a little bit. If he kept his nerves up he'd end up switching planes on accident, and that would be no good at all. Noticing the door, Wolf wondered how they were supposed to get the thing open. Then he noticed the blood. "Are you going to be okay?" he asked. "Do you have anything you can wrap it with?" he asked. From where he was he couldn't see the severity of the cut, but he didn't want her to be injured.

"Oh, thank the gods," Wolf breathed a sigh of relief. "I was worried we'd have to deal with the door on our own," he admitted with a shaky laugh. A month didn't sound too bad, although his boss might be a little upset when he didn't show up for work. An actual apocalypse had never been a good excuse for skimping on his duties. "Well, you won't have to worry about me eating," he muttered. "Maybe that'll help your storage last," he said.

She couldn't give the wound too much thought, otherwise she might risk panicking which would end in her blasting off more energy. "Yeah, doesn't hurt at all yet." She offered him a reassuring smile, leading the way towards the door. It wouldn't take much to trigger the mechanisms, that was part of the fail-safe of this place. It was a grand design plan considering it was meant more for natural disaster, not really the end of the world. It slid back on it's tracks as she passed the first motion sensor, allowing them to pass through. "There's a kit in one of the rooms beyond this door. My boss built it as a sort of safe place in case of...well he didn't plan for the end of the world as we knew it." Yoki chuckled softly, waiting a few seconds once they were through.

Now assured of their safety, she could being to process of wrapping up her hand and figuring out what to do. Sitting down on the smooth stone floor, she dug out a large cloth wrap and some antibiotic cream and began to process of fixing herself. "I'm glad it doesn't, considering that's about how long I give it before we can safely go outside again." Depending on if this followed the typical end of the world idea or not, she wasn't going to worry about that right then. Finishing up with the dressing of her wound, and pinning the wrap down, Yoki breathed out deeply. This was real, it was really happening and now she had no idea what to do about it. His words pulled her back from her failed attempt to think ahead, "You don't eat?" Surprised by this idea, she gave him a second look over. Well that was just a little odd, though it didn't rate up there as oddest thing she'd dealt with today. "Okay well that might help some, but once the others get down here we'll see." She knew of two others who would be joining them, though she didn't know when.

Bottles smashed, I raised my hand
How can you all even stand?
And why is there joy in this poison? Oh
Faking smiles and confidence
Driving miles to capture this excitement
I can't take anymore

You're never gonna get it
I'm a hazard to myself
I'll break it to you easy
This is hell, this is hell
You're looking and whispering
You think I'm someone else
This is hell, yes
I am in hell

Wolf watched her wrap up her finger and felt somewhat satisfied. It was good that they could take care of their needs. "Your boss should be congratulated," he commented. "It's not every day that employees are allowed shelter from disasters," he said.

"Er no, I don't eat," he said. "But I may have to leave you at one point or another to take care of things on the other side," he told her. "Hopefully they're to busy to notice my absence," he muttered. As hellish as it was on Evelon, Wolf was enjoying his break from the afterlife.

"Others are coming? Are they like you?" He asked.

For a moment Yoki simple flexed her hand in the wrap, testing her ability to use it, and was content to know that it still worked. "Normally we wouldn't have been all the way down here, but I'm glad he was prepared." She had to wonder where he was now, if he was even still alive. That was a hard line to follow, as she realized few would have survived the onslaught of whatever those creepy little children were. The man had been good to her, even once he'd found out what kind of power she had. It didn't take long for her to pull herself back from it, as there was work to do still. "We need to go further down, since they won't know to wander this far. I think Xisira may have trouble even navigating the tunnels." She was already moving, leading him further down the tunnels.

His answer was still puzzling, but then again his magic was so strange to her it might be normal for all she knew. His further explanation was a little more vague, though it did make her wonder. "When you say on the other side...you mean like another realm, or do you mean like death?" She was insanely curious as to that answer, especially when she considered how little she really knew about him. "Are you some kind of a reaper?" After a moment of thinking it over, Yoki realize how she was starting to pry. "Sorry...never mind." Clearing her throat as they passed the different doors on either side of the tunnel. Those that lead back to the surface were labeled, the first one read F1-1. It lead to a flower shop two doors down from the bar, but Yoki doubted it's owner would be coming down here.

When the silence between them was broken by his question, Yoki stopped and turned to face him. "Something like me." She shrugged, not really knowing a better way to explain it than to give him the whole thing. "Xisira is a sorceress, she's strong enough to make what I did a child's trick. The thing with Xisira is that she's not quick to admit to what she can do, or to use it unless she has to." After thinking it over for a moment, Yoki decided to let the other woman explain her own reasons for this, after all being able to steal power and eating peoples hearts in order to do this, well it made others nervous. "Then there's Camris and Daegor, dunno much about them except that they can kill just about anything alive, and damn quick." She still wasn't sure how she felt about the pair of former "soldiers" or even if she believed their story about that.

"A little bit of both," he said carefully. Wolf was doing his best to answer her question and also marvel at the place he was in. It was unlike anything he had seen before, and that was coming from someone who had actually seen what happened after death. "I'm not a reaper, although I do fall into that kind of work I suppose," he said. "I'm kind of deal with what happens after a reaper takes a soul," he explained. "No, no, your fine," he said quickly. "I imagine we'll have some time to spend together," he said with an anxious chuckle.

"That's a relief," he said, instantly relaxing. Her... friends? he wasn't exactly sure. Her friends sounded a bit scary and powerful, but he had seen what Yoki could do as well, and as a person she didn't seem so bad. "Because of what I do, I've never mixed well with humans. Not that I don't like them, but you know, I like to keep my life and my job separate to some degree," he said.

"Speaking of, what is it that you do?" he asked. "If you don't mind that is," he added.

Re: The Children (Nyxia & I)

"Whoa, that's got to be a little weird." Yoki couldn't even imagine seeing someone alive, then seeing them again afterwards. That must be so bizarre she thought, did people complain and carry on about being dead they way they did about their jobs alive? Canning the questions for the time being, Yoki continued down the long hallway, her eyes scanning from door to door and sweeping down the hall. Well at least he wasn't offended by her wild questions, that was a plus, since the others would likely ask even more. "So does that mean you take them wherever they actually go, after their dead and on the other side?" She imagined the legends and mythology she knew about things like the hordes of souls wandering about, then she imagined it looking more like the DMV lines and giggled softly at the idea. "I gotta ask, is it like tons of unruly souls wandering around complaining? Or is it more like an office job?" She imagined the DMV line again, with ticket numbers and all, and figured that was a bit closer.

To this Yoki nodded some, understanding what he meant by that. She too like to keep her worlds seperate if she could. In fact it was nearly unheard of that she would have showed up at the bar on her night off, but Yoki couldn't imagine what had caused her too today. "Yeah I get it." When he asked her what she did, Yoki choked a laugh, managing not to double over. "I work in the bar up there. Well, I did anyway..." She shrugged some. "I took a job as a bar tender, when it became clear my kind of magic isn't welcome in 'polite society'. Before that I use to help on clearing out black magic cults, use my chaotic magic to cause them to disperse or attack each other." It hadn't been a glamorous job, but it paid a whole lot better than her recent gig.

As they came to a bend that followed the sidewalk above Yoki had to smile slightly, one of the doors a little further up banged shut with a bit of force and a mutter. She motioned him to follow, though she didn't say anything more.
Image

Coming into view was a woman with long black hair, wearing a red shirt that read "Doom" in large black ornate letters on the front of it. "Stupid rusty door." She grumbled, as she took in a deep breath to calm herself down. She was decked out in black skinny jeans and heavy looking motorcycle boots, with a heavy looking black backpack slung over her right shoulder. "Of course, I'd be the first one down here..." She glanced up and down the dim lite area, and shuttered at the memory of those horrible things upstairs. "Hello?" She called out to the shadows further down, facing away from Yoki and Wolf. "Anyone else down here?" She faced back the way of the two, her eyes adjusting to the lessened light in this part of the underground bunker.

After a moment Xisira seemed to notice the movement down from her, and she quickly called up a small ball of light which bathed the hallway in a bluish colored light. "Yoki, you made it!" She looked relieved to see them, though her eyes did cut over to Wolf for a moment. "And you brought a ... friend?" She wasn't sure, but Yoki wasn't the type to just trust anyone.

(So, it only took me way too long to reply, sorry;;;)
"Mm," Wolf though for a moment. "It's a grand forest with no begging or end, technically," he said. "We lead them through the forest, and depending on how the forest judges them they either suffocate and perish alone, or they pass on peacefully to whatever afterlife they might have believed in," he explained. "My brother and I are a part of the forest, we are the two sides of judgement, and we must see each soul through to their end," he said.  "I've never had a soul complain, but typically they have their minds focused on something else," he laughed. Wolf just happened to be the one to take the souls judged as not worthy of passing on into afterlife. He felt it would not be ideal to mention that tidbit to Yoki. Wolf was in no way evil... he just had a job to do, and so he did it.

Wolf listened intently. Other people fascinated him, especially when he got to meet them alive. "That's... unfortunate," Wolf said in regards to her powers. "You seem to be a polite member of society. I would imagine that your powers do not affect that?" he wondered.

There was a voice coming from somewhere else and Wolf stiffened. Then he saw the woman, decked in black, and noted that she was not human. The thought relaxed him again and he smiled at her. "I'm Wolf, pleased to meet you," he said.

Re: The Children (Nyxia & I)

Well that was...definitely not what she expected of a description. She'd always thought of it being something more like the myths, an empty field area beside a river of some kind. A forest was a whole lot less scary seeming in her own opinion of things, probably because she imagined she would see anyone else really. The more he explained however, the more confused about it Yoki found herself. "So they're really not bothered by which ever way it goes? Wow." She doubted she'd be that easily accepting of something like dying alone, then again she didn't feel like she'd done anything that should condemn her either.

It was then that she barked out a laugh, at least the guy had a good sense of humor about her power. "No, it didn't make me any crazier than I am now." She shrugged her shoulders some, with a slight shake of her head. "Most people are scared of my magic, because way back in the past some used it to do terrible things. Its stupid really, considering it was like three individuals who did this, and the rest of us are like everyone else." She didn't know much about how else to explain it to him, though she did like the not having to worry about his reaction. It was refreshing to meet someone else who wasn't scare of her, or ready to try and kill her over what she was born with.

Xisira eyed the man calling himself Wolf for a moment more, before nodding a bit. "Xisira. Sorceress. Not sure if you still find it a pleasure or not, but nice to meet you." She then looked Yoki over again, now with a more appraising eye. Pushing some of her long black hair back towards her pony tail, Xisira sighed heavily letting some of her magic to break through her guards. "So is it just me, or did the whole world go to hell? Like literally over night?" She still wasn't entirely sure of what had happened, or even what those kids up there were. A shutter ran through her, causing her to rub her hands over her arms. "You realize it took me like five spells to clear out my shop? That was just to get down here." Her eyes went over to Wolf, fiery ruby colored eyes clearly trying to figure him out. "Do you know what they were?" She felt magic like that of necormancers and other death magics coming from him, but it was different too. It felt like spirit magic in a way, which made her wonder. "Something escape?" Her brows crept up some, letting him know she sensed something about him.

"I mean, they could be bothered. Most of the time they have other things on their mind," Wolf said with a shrug.  The forest was not a kind or forgiving place. It made sure to deal out swift punishment to those who had done wrong in their lives. Every being in the forest, whether they moved on to the afterlife or were trapped forever, had sins to atone for.

Wolf considered her for a moment. Although he had seen what her powers could do, she didn't strike him as some destructive villain. "Well... We get along. Plus you are, more or less, not human. Consider your secret safe with me," he said with a smile.

"Meeting someone new is never a displeasure," Wolf said, shifting his attention to Xisira. The world had gone to hell, it was unnerving. It was especially unnerving to think that he was a survivor, although it didn't come as a shock. Xisira seemed friendly so far, and she appeared to be something along the same line as Yoki. In this now-desolate world things weren't going terribly bad for Wolf.

"Escape?" Wolf wondered, shooting Yoki a curious look.

Re: The Children (Nyxia & I)

For a moment Xisira waited, taking in his expression and tone. While she still felt death magic from him, it still didn't seem right. Something about those creepy little kids had felt off, but it didn't so much feel like death. However she had been reminded of a strange demon she'd once met, especially in how they seemed to absorb her spells.

After a moment, Yoki laughed. Leave it to Xisira to be blunt and misread a situation this quickly, worse she thought it was Wolf's fault. "No, he has nothing to do with this." She could barely suppress her chuckle as she shook her head. "I don't think those weird kids are some undead thing. They feel very alive to me. Plus they aren't exactly zombies to me." She had to hand it to the other woman though, even if she was wrong that had been needed. "Wolf is some kind of reaper, he doesn't keep the gates. Even if he did, they attacked him too, Xis." She smiled some, watching as the other woman thought that over.

After a few seconds, Xisira shrugged and nodded. "Yeah, they felt more like something otherworldly, not really dead..." She shrugged, as though it was a perfectly normal statement. She opened her mouth to say more when there was a bang further down the corridor, followed by a second louder bang. Both women turned in the direct of the sound, and Xisira to start whipping up a spell quickly. One of the doors beyond the lighting banged heavily again, before a voice groaned. "It feels like Camris..." She sighed quietly, dropping the swirling amber and violet magic swirling above her open palm.
