Nyx laughed, now quite certain that Fenrick would be able to handle the machine on his own. His demeanor seemed quite different from pre-"rodeo", now that he knew that the vacuum would obey him. The flour was quickly cleared from the ground, leaving it as clean as it had been before their little, 'accident'.
As he leapt down from his perch, she applauded him pretending to present him a large trophy with a flourish.
"And first prize goes to...Fenrick, hardcore vacuum rider!"
More cheers and clapping.
Even after she stopped though, she noticed that it still seemed strangely noisy down their aisle.
"Do you hear...?"
Snap.
Indeed, Fenrick was right. She noticed it the same time as he did: The vacuum was still running, and was making its way down the aisle, grumbling and coughing as it went.
Nyx's first reaction was to go and turn the machine off, but when she paused to reflect on the idea, she realized that she was probably just as likely to get squashed by the monster. Her gaze roved over it, searching for a way to shut it off, when her eyes lit upon the power cord.
"Ah hah!"
She darted forward agiley, and just as the machine was about to reach the end of its line, plucked the plug from the outlet. The brass cover snapped back over the outlet with a satisfying click, and with one indignant cough, which dwindled down to ever quieter sputters, the machine settled to rest again, looking innocently still.
"Whew...there's another disaster avoided,"
Nyx said as she made her way back to Fenrick.
"Now, before we get into any more mischief, let's finish up what we came here to do,"
she laughed, resting a hand lightly on his shoulder to steer him back the way they had come.
