Hecate

It was still very early in the morning, but Devany didn't care and was happy to come into her bakery. She was always happy when she came into her shop, but today was special. She had now been open for business for a month and making a decent profit.  Which was a good thing so that she could pay down her loan to Grandpa Celestial faster, and it meant that everyone enjoyed her baked goods. Seeing how happy others were as they ate her food that she created made her very proud. She went into the back kitchen and reviewed her to do list for the day. Her croissant batter was first on the list, since they were such a popular breakfast item. As she put the flour and eggs into  the mixer she heard the back door open. Good morning, Devany. What should I help you with?
Oh, Good morning Hecate. Could you check on the dough that I put in the fridge last night. It should be ready to bake. Hecate nodded her head and went to the fridge. Devany paused for a moment to admire her. It was amazing to her that Hecate, once a priestess, now worked with her twice a week. The help was a blessing, but still a priestess in her little bakery.
Hecate struggled a bit with the fridge door as it was so large compared to her small build. She did get it open and thankfully Devany had put the dough into portions that she could carry. As she was so small she did have a bit of a hard time in the kitchen, but she charmed the customers and was great on the register. Also being able to fly coffee to tables made service very fast. The pair worked for several hours until the bagels, croissants, pastries and muffins were finished. Hecate, then, glanced at the clock as she put the final tray of pastries down for display. Devany, I do believe that we need to open the doors. Devany looked at the clock in the wall shaped like a bitten cookie. Oh my gosh, look at the time. You're absolutely right. Devany races to the door to unlock it. Make sure the coffee is ready. I'm sure we'll have quite a few who want it.

Grandpa Celestial


Iggy

Celestial and Iggy were the first customers in the door. The pair were always early risers, but Celestial also wanted to see how his investment was doing. He knew that Devany was a sweet girl as she was good friends with his daughter Abbey, but he hoped that she had good business sense as well. Iggy could tell that Celestial was worried. He had been around him to long not to know his moods, even if he tried to hide them. "Don't worry so much Gramps. Devany may not look like a business woman, but she does make good deserts. Plus it seems like she has some sense of how to encourage customers to come in." Celestial sighed when his son called him Gramps. It didn't sit well with him, but that was how Iggy always addressed him. Even when he was a little shii. Oh well, it was not the biggest of his concerns. He and Iggy walked into the shop. As Celestial opened the door a set of bells attached to the door rang to announce their presence. Iggy looked around the shop. "I like it. It's cute with out being overly girly." Celestial nods his head "I agree it is nice, although not quite as big as I would like." his huge frame filled up a good chunk of the space. "Well Gramps, most creatures aren't as big as you are." Iggy snickers and Celestial sighs in exasperation.

Devany ran back behind the counter to make more room for Celestial's large size. "Goodness, you do know how to fill out a room." She realized how awful that statement sounded and immediately began to backpedal. "I'm not commenting on weight or anything. You just happen to be very tall and long. I wish I had enough keystones to have picked up a larger unit, but oh well." She shrugs her shoulders. "So what brings you down this way so early in the morning?"

Hecate flew behind Devany to get out of the way of the large stargoyle. She had interacted with a few so she was not shocked by his appearance. However, to see one put into this scale was rather amazing. She tapped Devany on the shoulder. "I am sorry to interrupt, but who is this gentleman and where should we try to seat him so we can fit other customers?"

"My name is Celestial." He gestures to Iggy "This is my son Ignatius." Iggy scowls at the use of his full name but he let it slide this time. One more useage though and he would just have to retaliate. Celestial caught the scoul out of the corner of his eye and smiled. Served him right for referring to his father as gramps. "We stopped by to see how business was going and to see how you were fairing dealing with maintaining the business."
Iggy piped up "If you have coffee I would love you forever. These early morning walks are murder on my sleeping in."

"Of course I have coffee." She walks to the back corner of the shop where they kept the coffee pot. "I know how you like it. Black, no frills." She pours it into a light green mug and brings it over to Iggy. "On the house." She hands it to him over the counter. "Would either of you like a croissant or a muffin while I take you on a tour of the building?"

Without being asked Hecate opens the display and begins to fill it with coffee cake, croissants, muffins, and pastries from the back kitchen. Who knew when more customers would be coming? As Devany talks to Iggy she looks at the odd pair studying their actions. Obviously, Iggy was an adopted son of Celestial and she could see that they did have a close bond. She puts a croissant and a cherry filled pastry on two napkins on the counter for Celestial and Iggy to take with them.

Iggy sighs with relief "You are a goddess." He sips the coffee and a huge smile appears. "I needed that." Celestial laughs at him "You are such a caffeine junkie." Iggy takes another sip "This coffee is currently keeping me from killing you so you should be thankful for this addiction." When Devany offers a snack and a tour Iggy gladly snapped up the croissant "Devany your snacks are always so delicious. I knew you had talent as soon as you started bringing over treats for Abbey. That's about the only good thing she's done for me."  Celestial brings his head down to be level with Iggy "Now son, don't talk about your sister that way. She's done plenty of good things for both us." Iggy stared strait ahead and sipped on his coffee without looking at his father. "I'll be happy to acknowledge better things about everyone when I've had a second cup." He puts the keystones out before Devany can object. "I'll pay this time. Gramps why don't you go on that tour and I'll sit here and wake up." Celestial sighs "I would, however I am to small to go into the kitchen. I can get up to the door and thats it. You'll have to go for me." And with that he pushes his son through the swinging kitchen door.

Both Devany and Hecate laugh at Iggy's goddess comment. He was prone to melodrama, thankfully not all the time. They laughed even harder as Celestial pushed him into the kitchen to scout out the business. Devany tells Celestial that they will be back shortly and joins Iggy in the kitchen. Hecate decides to talk to Celestial more. He seems interesting. "So how did Iggy become your son?"

Devany catches up with a rather irritated Iggy next to the fridge. "I guess Grampa C.told you huh?" Addressing Celestial with the nickname she would never use to his face. Iggy huffed "Yes, I suppose he did. I suppose this is why he dragged me out of bed to come with him. Now let's see this kitchen of yous so that I can go back to bed." Devany cocked an eyebrow "You can still go back to sleep after two cups of coffee? You are crazy. Anyway, since we're here we'll start with the refrigerators." She pats one of the large stainless steel appliaces. "These guys hold all my doughs that need to rest and my supplies that need to be kept cold, such as eggs and other things."

Celestial sighs. "I found him one night when I was on my way home. He was just a little shii then. He was so small he rode on top of my front foot when I took him back to my house." He laughs picturing the memory on his mind. Hecate grabs the coffee pot and brings it over for him. "Are you sure you wouldn't like some coffee?" Celestial smiles at her. "Thank you my dear, but no. I would have to drink from the actual pot." Hecate gives him the coffee pot and Celestial gives her an incredulous look. "Are you sure about this?" Hecate shrugs her shoulders as she flies over to an upper cabinet to retrieve another pot. "I believe that Devany will not mind. With some effort she flies down the heavy glass pot to the coffee maker and sets to work making another batch. Celestial takes a sip, enjoying the bitterness as it hit his tongue. "This is very good. Always a nice treat to have in the morning. So my dear why are you hear instead of the temples?"

Iggy, however, was already craving another cup of coffee. He was thoroughly addicted to the stuff. Devany continued to go on about her new appliances "And these are my brand new ovens." Iggy stares at them "Did you really need to get four of them?" Devany sighs "You do remember that you are in a bakery, right?" Iggy huffs "Well, pardon me." Devany glares at him "I don't have the luxury of being a walking oven, unlike you." Proudly shakes is flaming tail. "Jealous." Devany rolls her eyes and heads over the back corner of the room to open up a small closet. "Anyway, this is the pantry for non refrigerated items like flour, sugar, and other things." Iggy poked his head in to see what was in there. "No extra goodies in here." Devany shakes her head. "No silly." she closes the door behind Iggy. "And finally, this is my office." she says this with a big smile on her face. She loved the fact that she had her own office. She opened the door to a small room with filing cabinets on one wall and a medium sized desk on the other. The side wall was filled with pictures of her with her family and friends. Iggy walked up to look at the picture of Devany with his sister Abbey wrapped up in a huge hug. "So what do you do in here?"

Hecate was slightly taken aback that Celestial had remembered her. She had seen him several times in the temples, but that was years ago and they had never spoken to one another. "I'm surprised you remembered that I live in the temples. I still am a priestess and a seer, however, I could not stand having so much..." she tapped her chin as she searched for the right word "... mysticism pervading my life on a daily basis. When I was younger I loved it, in fact I thrived on it, but now it draws out too much of my energy. So I received permission from the high-priestess to get a part time job to help earn money for the temple. Working here with Devany has been surprisingly soothing. In spite of the rush of customers that mob the building every morning." she giggles at this thought. Celestial continues to sip on the coffee as Hecate tells her story. She seemed like a nice female. She may have a good influence on Devany. Not that she was a bad Kuhn, but it's always good to have friends that will keep you going down the right path.

Devany walks over to the desk. "This is where I do all my ordering and cost analysis. Thank heavens my brother is an accountant, otherwise I would have no idea where to begin. He's been walking me through everything step by step, and has been able to find me lots of ways to save money on my taxes." She looked at the framed photo on her desk of her mother, a cake kuhna, her brother, a sugarberry kuhna, and herself camping out by a lake. She loved her family very much. She never knew her father, but she didn't mind that much. Her mother made up for it. Iggy turned so that he could see the picture that she was looking at "I like that picture of you guys. You look happy." Devany smiles "We are happy." Iggy was starting to get bored and was itching to go home and sleep. "Well, I think Gramps won't have much to complain about. Let's head back out so I can give him my report." Devany rolls her eyes and walked him out through her kitchen.

Celestial watches the swinging doors open as Iggy emerges from the back "So my boy, how does it look back there?" Iggy held up one finger and walked over toward the newly made coffee and poured himself one more cup on a to-go cup that he found near the pot. He slapped on a lid and took a sip before addressing his father. "It looks fine. Super clean back there, and she got Eliot working on the books so your money is a-ok." He gives a sarcastic thumbs up and takes another sip of coffee. Celestial sighs and shakes his head. "Ignatius can't you take anything seriously?" Iggy shrugs his shoulders and takes another sip of coffee.

Devany and Hecate laugh at Iggy's antics. He really did not know how to shut his sass mouth. No matter how it may benefit him. Devany, still laughing, shakes her finger at him. "You owe me money for that coffee, Mr. Iggy." calling Iggy by her pet name for him when she would be slightly annoyed at his actions. She did like Iggy, but in small doses with others around her to act as a barrier or a safe haven to run to if his personality was getting to much for her. She was starting to reach that limit with him.

Hecate wipes a tear from her eye. It had been quite a long time since she had laughed that hard at... well.... anything. Priestesses were a rather serious lot who rarely make jokes. At least that how they were at her temple. It was very refreshing to have a good laugh at another being's behavior.

Iggy pouts slightly, but he puts his keystones on the counter. "I do take some things seriously. I take coffee seriously." He takes another sip for emphasis. "I take having fun seriously, and I take ogling female shinzos VERY seriously. Especially those ecoshinzos just seeing one makes me want to burn her up with love."

At this point Celestial picks up Iggy by the ear and lifts him up. Iggy squeals with pain as Celestial brings him up to his eye level. "I think you have caused quite enough trouble to Devany and Hecate. It's time for us to go home and have a discussion on how you treat the feminine race." Celestial pushes Iggy, who is still bemoaning the pain in his ear, out of the door. He looses his stern demeanor and smiles at the two females. "It's always lovely to see you Devany. I'm glad that your business is doing well. I'm sure you will have that loan paid back to me in no time. Hecate, dear, it was lovely to meet you and I hope to see you again." With that he scoots backwards out of the store, since he does not have enough room to fully turn around, and leaves the shop.

Devany and Hecate pause glancing over at each other before bursting into laughter. "Did you see Iggy's face?" Devany asks. Heace nods as she wipes away a tear "I did. Oh I say that was the funniest thing I have seen in years." They continue to laugh at Iggy's expense for a few moments more before setteling themselves back down. Devany starts back into the kitchen to check on her bread dough. "I do feel at little bad for him. I know Celestial is going to chew him out when they get home." Hecate follows her back into the kitchen "He brought that mess upon himself. I dont feel a thing for the boy." Hecate starts to wash used dishes in the back. "I shall clean back here for a while why don't you head up front to take care of customers." Devany places the dough back in the fridge. It was rising well, but it needed to sit for a little longer.  "Can do. If you need me, let me know." She heads back out on the floor to wait for the arrival of their next customers.
