The days had passed slowly since her visit to the village out on the edge of the Vast Plains, though Shiria found she had a lot on her mind since then as well. Now with a house guest to boot, it seemed Shiria was distracted more than usual. Leaning on the counter of the little shop in what had once been the house's living room, Shiria's mind when back to that night. "
They will possess something of great value, it will bring the healer to them." A shiver passed down her spine again, as she so clearly remembered the tone in which the old woman had spoken. It was like the whole room had dropped several degrees around her, and Shiria fought the urge to rub her arms to warm them.
There was a single patron in the shop this close to evening, a man she recognized from the city. Though she now eyed everyone she dealt with under a suspicious eye, unsure if they were what or who they claimed anymore. She offered him a weak smile when the man turned a questioning eye to her, a small glass jar in his hand. "
I do hope you're staying a while this time, Miss Shalev." He set down the jar, and pulled out the proper amount of keystones. "
My wife has suffered terribly in your absence. Her headaches are worse than last summer." Having paid her, when Shiria only nodded her head and smiled, he turned from the small counter and headed back out the door.
Breathing out slowly, Shiria followed after him. At the door she turned the lock, and flipped around the closed sign. She all but refused to go out on house calls, or admit patrons after evening anymore. Shaken by the very thought that something dark could, or would, be after her shook Shiria to her very core. Heading back towards the stairs that lead to the upstairs level, where three bedrooms and a comfortable living room. She was still no closer to knowing what they might be after, whatever it was that would force her to help them.
