At first she was sure she must have heard him wrong. After all, there was no way he'd make the offer she just thought she heard right? But as he continued to speak she realised that she was, in fact, correct. Surprise tinged with pure delight flooded through her. This was it! Her big break! No more practising in her room, pretending to fight bad guys. She would be doing it for real, alongside a hero as famous and as powerful as the Flame!
Too overwhelmed to listen to him properly, she simply rushed forward and threw her arms around him.
"Thank you thank you thank you!" She beamed, squeezing him hard. It was a little like hugging a giant metal boiler but she didn't care. Only when she remembered that she was supposed to be a mature crimefighter now did she stop. She jumped back quickly, coughing awkwardly and trying to look as trustworthy as possible.
"Ahem. What I mean is, I won't let you down." Her grin was so wide it could have split her face. This was it, she was on her way. No more messing about, no more playing. This was real.
And she was going to save the world
