The slums are a rundown, old heap of a town tucked deep in the jungles, with townsfolk consisting mostly of poachers, black marketeers, thieves, and fugitives. While the ideal tourist spot, some travel to the Slums to make use of the black markets. (+2 Defense, +2 Speed)

Jack Sabbit, the Sabbit
Gotta take what you can while you got the chance.

The dank mustiness of the club was very much overwhelmed by the blaring music, the stench of smoke, and the assault of flashing lights in the darkness.  It was rare to see one of the underground clubs in the Slums so crowded, but Jack supposed that tonight had been a good night for the Underbet Cavern.

This place was almost always noisy and though Sabbit very much disliked the thrum of the bass making his eardrums ring, this was one of the best places to do general business.  Leaders of the Underbet often invited him here to do special little jobs, like running extra bets under the tables and helping change the odds in the little ways that only those as charming as he could.

Pale fingers ran through a red and black mane of hair, the fringe ruffling over his eyebrows as he sighed out a small puff of air.  His eyes skimmed the dance floor, trying not to waste his time as he waited for the rep from the Cavern to show up this time.

That man took forever.

Mirrors decorated the walls, making the club look larger and more crowded that it should.  Someone had once told him it was a ploy on the subconscious that tended to lean towards people making riskier, higher, bets.

His black duster was laid against the seat beside him, his white button down shirt making him look more official than he really felt.  He could see the black spade adorning his cheek in the mirror, red eyes gazing back at him as though bored.

He supposed they weren't lying.

He cast his gaze back onto the floor, eyes wandering in the hopes of at least finding a little entertainment while he waited.

Camisado

Camisado stood at the edge of the dance floor watching for something nice and shiny as the crowd as they pumped their fists to the music. When something pretty caught the light she began to weave and dance her way toward it, making sure to bump into people on the way so she could slide her hand inside their pockets and grab at the riches inside. She was surprised and delighted to see the club so crowded. Maybe she could bring home some new accessories.

When she reached what she was looking for she saw is was a man with a shiny new watch. She pouted but danced against him anyways, sliding her hands down his body before she quickly snatched his watch off of him. Oh well, she couldn't wear it but it would fetch a good price here in the slums. She just had to make sure not to run into him again. She opened her clutch and slipped the beauty inside and slipped away from the man.

She breathed in the smoke filled air and began scanning the crowd once more and she danced. She loved the Slums more importantly however she loved the people in the Slums with their shady backgrounds. While the Slums weren’t anything quite like the city of Lamenolai with its fancy clubs it was even more crowded than the Slums. She didn't mind the challenge of competition for her seductions but she wasn't always successful and often found herself becoming agitated because of it.

One thing she didn't care for however was the mirrors this club. She was more likely to be seen and approached with the kind of attention she abhorred. She didn't care if someone got mad or she got into some trouble but she didn't fancy getting a black eye. It would put her adventures on hold for a while because of the suspicion it might cause.

As a new song blared though the speakers a strobe light came on and caught the light of a pretty diamond necklace around a slender neck. She worked her way closer to the young women and hoped to score at least something to take home and wear tonight. She glanced once more at the mirrors just to make sure no one was watching before she began her distractions to retrieve her new prize.

She didn't see anyone staring outright at her so she began her game.

An unusual sway through the crowd caught Ace's eye.  A focused  gaze narrowed the movement down to a girl.  She was pretty, but not so pretty that one would remember her clearly after the adrenaline of the club began to wear off.  She pressed through the floor, pick pocketing her way through the flood of people like she was drifting down a stream.  Her motions were brazen, but unnoticed by the inattentive eye.

She would probably get in pretty deep trouble if she picked the wrong target.  She seemed to know her limitations, though it appeared that she also had a blatant thrill in her work.  She was talented, but still needed a lot of training or practice, one.  All it would take was someone with a keen eye or sensitive awareness to get her caught, though whether she avoided such targets because of intuition or luck, he wasn't sure.

It seemed that she had spied something of interest her eyes catching and honing in on something in the waves of people.  A woman, it looked like.  If he wasn't mistaken, she rather looked like one of the undercover floor monitors.  Then again, it could just be a guest that happened to look very much like the type of camouflage the female monitors tend to take: Young, attractive, rich... they were all youthful enough to be there, pretty enough to catch the interest of a rich gambler looking for luck, and rich enough to attract a potential thief.  The men weren't much different, though there was more variety in the way they dressed.

He leaned back in his seat, content on having found something that he found potentially interesting.  If she got caught, he'd get to watch the fiasco.  If she succeeded in lifting the necklace from the floor monitor, or maybe if she was intuitive enough to know the target was too difficult, she may be worth offering a spot on his next job.  Even if the woman wasn't a floor monitor, the necklace was a very obvious thing to lose.  Diamonds were weighty and noticeable to anyone with a decent eye, especially in the Slums.

Women were always useful when they had crafty skills and knew how to use them.

An idle finger traced the edge of his tumbler, a half-smirk on the edges of his lips.  He would at the very least have something to distract him while he waited for his companion.

The girl was slightly suspicious, Camisado knew from past attempts of  robbing the wrong people that she could get in trouble if she didn't do this correctly. However, she didn't think she could steal the necklace without having to talk to the girl. She sighed through her nose and pursed her lips, here goes nothing she thought. She turned to the girl.

Camisado let out the most excited squeal she could muster and wrapped the girl into a hug, throwing her arms around the girl’s neck. She threw out compliments to the girl and acted like an old friend. "Ohmigod I never thought I would see you here! It has been so long! You look wonderful!" Meanwhile she unhooked the latch of the necklace but continued to hold it in place. When She was done she hooked a finger around the necklace and quickly pulled her arms back from the girl, and let the necklace fall to the floor. Acting as if the necklace snapped off by accident.

The next part was trickier, she feigned surprised and spewed several nervous apologies. "Oh no! I'm so sorry! Here let me help!" She got on her hands and knees and covered the area of the floor where she watched it drop. With her body hiding the diamond necklace from being seen she scooped it up and slid it into her clutch, sliding it into a hidden compartment. She smiled to herself but as she looked back up to the girl she pouted and uttered an apology. "I'm SO sorry! Here let me get the manager, maybe he will help?" She squeaked. The girl looked angry but her face didn't read suspicion. She must of thought Camisado was just another drunk floozy.

She got back up and told her sorry again before she said she would find the manager to help find the necklace. At last she slid off the floor and headed to the bar. She looked back at the girl who was now patrolling the floor for her necklace she would never find. Camisado smiled once more and ordered a white Russian.

She looked at the floor and watched the girl to be sure got a clean get away. She collected her newly made drink and took a sip from it.

Jack watched the scene with mirth, head resting lazily on the palm of his free hand as he watched the girl work.  She would've almost gotten away with it.  Almost.  The other woman had gathered herself after a what seemed like an epiphany came over her, standing up and straightening her clothes.  Ace was pretty sure the cell phone the woman was beginning to fish out wasn't for calling a bestie in a panic.  Though he could never be one hundred percent certain.  Her eyes scanned the crowd for the girl, but couldn't seem to place  her.

This was good news for Jack.

With a sigh, he pulled out a matchbook from his pocket, drawing out a pen and scribbling a red diamond on it before tossing the book on the table and standing up.  He supposed he could decline this job in favor of something that would at the very least, amuse him immeasurably.

He headed for the bar he'd seen her escape to, not knowing she'd likely been had.  Even if the woman couldn't find her, which was likely since the throngs of people were simply too thick, she would call the security team in and it would just make it that much harder for her to get away.

He didn't want that; she was interesting.

When he did reach the bar, the girl was looking over at the crowd discreetly, but he didn't know if she could see the woman or if the woman was still on her phone.

He sidled up next to her, leaning on the bar with a smirk.  "Barkeep," he called casually, "We're going to need one of those to-go cups you guys pretend not to have."

Before the man could begin to give him a suspicious look, he set a lofty bill on the bar with a wink.  He ignored the girl completely, but he was pretty sure she would figure out what he was talking about.

(((I hope you don't mind me pushing crowd-lady around.  I can edit it a bit if you do.  ^.^)))

Camisado eyed Ace from the corner of her eye and pushed back her tumbler. "Its fine. I don't need some chintzy cup to hold my drink." She wasn't so sure about him. He looked nice but that didn't necessarily mean anything. She supposed she could take the chance though, even if she didn't get anything from him he would at lest be some fun.

She stood up and smoothed her dress. "My parents always warned me of stranger danger. The never mentioned you though." Camisado smirked just enough that the corners of her mouth turned up as she turned and made a beckoning gesture at the handsome stranger.

It was hot and stuffy in the club. She weaved through the crowed and waited by the exit for him to catch up. If they were going to talk so do whatever it is he intended she wanted to at lest be outside where it was slightly cooler. Come to think of it, Camisado realized he never said what he wanted. What is he thought she was a female escort...or worse, a prostitute? She watched warily for his approach while a twinge on panic settling in her stomach. She could have easily walked into a trap. She hoped she didn't.

(((I don't mind at all! In my opinion she is more of a prop to get the story going. ^-^)))

Pulling a card from his pocket, he discreetly passed it to a gentleman at the end of the bar, one brow arching as he nodded before standing and moving away from his seat.  As he watched the other man slip towards the center of the crowd, he followed the obviously mischievous girl towards the door.

As he reached her, he pressed the door open, gesturing for her to go through first, eyes glancing up at the dance floor as he did so.  "I'm certainly a stranger, and I'd be lying if I said I was harmless," he said easily, a light smirk gracing his features.  "But  I can tell you that I am definitely not boring."

There was  loud shriek from the crowd, followed by the yelling of men about to have a fight as the people on the dance floor began to move.  Some were moving in for a better view of the fight while others were moving out of range.  That many people out of their seats and jostling one another around, however, was more than enough to distract security for the brief time it would take them to leave.

So that was a job and a favor he'd given away for the girl.

She'd better be worth it.

Ah, the things he did for the sake of being amused.

Camisado glanced at the commotion before sliding past and lightly grazing him with her body as she slid into the dank, musty alleyway. She wrinkled her nose at the smell. "Only strangers with candy claim to be harmless...and by the looks of it you can easily cause a distraction. So no i wouldn't say you are a harmless fella. The question is...who are you?" She walked over to the wall across from the door.

Leaning gainst the wall, pulled out a card she found on him when she made a short pickpocketing trip to his pockets as she went through the door. She examined it closely. "I haven't seen you around...but that distraction says you at lest have aquantiences." She jerked her head in the general direction of where they came from. "That means you get around and go places. Travel a bit..." She frowned as she thought of types of businesses he could be in but the butterflies in her stomach disagreed and were suddenly giddy with all the possibilities.

She was in dire need of an adventure. Some fun eould be a nice break from her regular stop and shop routine. A fire lit up inside her, burning any concerns away and only leaving playful excitement.

"So you are'nt boring. Definitally mysterious though." She slid the card back into hiding and got off of the wall. Who knew what the card would come in handy for. "So stranger...give me a name so you wont be so strange anymore to me."

Ace watched as the girl eyed him warily.  She passed him, barely touching him as he went by and he watched her hands carefully so as not to give her something dangerous.  She would be rather unlucky to pickpocket the wrong item off of him, as most of the items on his person would get her into more trouble than profits.

He made sure to move just enough for her to grab one of his blank cards; the type with the ace in the corners but nothing in the center.  She wouldn't know what to do with one of those, anyway.  Very few people had seen a blank one, so they wouldn't know what it meant even if they did know where it came from.

He gave her a smirk, pulling out an ace with three letters in the middle.  J.A.K. was boldly printed in the space where the suit usually stood.  "You may call me Jack or Ace," he said as he offered her the card.  "I happened to be watching you swindle the masses and I'm thinking of offering you a job."

He smirked then, mostly to himself.  "I'm rather notorious around these parts.  They call me the Amanojaku."

It smelled rather dank in the alleyway, and he knew distractions were distracting for only so long.  He shut the door softly behind him.  "Since you interrupted my meal, how about something to eat," he suggested.

A type of gurgling sound came from Camisado's stomach, making its presence known and making Camisado blush. She flipped her hair and stood up from the wall. "Alright then Ace," she tried to play off the embarrassment of the sound her stomach just mad as it if never happened. She hadn't been able to eat between the "shopping" trip and the regular buzz of the night. "Any preferences?" She waited for him to respond.

Jak smirked at Camisado, the expression not at all hiding his amusement.  "You don't look like a girl who wants to go somewhere normal," he said with a grin, turning down the alley and heading for the street.  "I've got just the place."

He stepped out under the street light, glancing back to ensure she was still behind him.  Effervescence was a good place to eat, plus they kept a private booth for him to discuss business matters at there.  It was his favorite place to eat in the Slums, as he never had to order.

A quirk the place was known for, Effervescence didn't take orders.  It was like the cook knew you were coming and had just the right dish planned out for you.  Most of the wait staff were familiar with the Amanojaku's preference in drink, and always kept it above the halfway mark.

Not to mention, the food was damn fine.

Camisado silently followed Ace smirking. She had heard of Effervesvence but hadnt been anywhere near it. "You got that right, lead on!" she called ahead of her.

She was cautiously aware she might be getting in on a great adventure, wether it was going to be a good one or not was yet to been seen. Camisado laughed into the cool night air, eyes bright with the thought of mischief.

Effervescence was a popular, but not overpopulated place.  Ace handed a card to the host, who smiled sweetly at him before leading them to a corner booth spaced well away from the central tables.  Other similar booths could be seen in the restaurant, sheer curtains dividing their space from the rest.

"Your server will be with you in a moment, Mr. Savit."  Glancing back at Camisado, he parted the sheer curtain to allow her room to be seated.

"Have you ever been here before?" he asked politely, mulling over what job would be best to test the extent of her abilities with.

There was a bait and switch he could certainly use a decent pickpocket for here in the Slums, as a matter of fact.

The big gig was in Alderect, though.

Camisado slid past the curtain saying a quick "Thanks," be fore sitting down. "Infact, I have been here before." She smiled casually as she let the small, white lie fester on the floor. Truth was, she had no clue what this place was, altho she had heard of it before. All the stories she had heard about this placed seemed a little.....off. Nevertheless, she didnt enjoy looking like she didnt know anything.

There was a small paper menu on the table that Camisado looked at carefully. Some of the things on the list she couldnt even guess what they were. Ah well. She guessed she would take whatever Ace was having.

Camisado sat and took in her surroundings, watching entired and exits, while trying to subtley study the interesting character in front of her. What could he be thinking. It was obviously something other than the menu.

Oh my Lord take this hand,
save me from the gallows.
Hear this news, bear my gold
lay me in the shallows.

the river don't run dry.

((Sorry, I've been really sick lately.  Can't seem to shake it off.))

Jak smirked; he knew a lie when he saw one.  She'd need to be better at that.  Although most people couldn't get one passed Jak, he felt that her verbal deceptions could use a little work.  He glanced at her, wondering if he should call her out on it, maybe casually entrap her, or just let it drop.

Before he had fully decided, a young, plucky woman poked her head through the curtains.  Her black hair was swept to one side of her face, the back neatly tied into a bun.  "Oh!  Jak!  How lovely to see you, you stray bastard! Your food will be out a bit, Max has already got it on.  Said he had a feeling someone special was coming by." Grey eyes looked over to Camisado and plush red lips smiled widely.  "Who's this pretty little thing?  New contract or new playmate?"

Jak grinned, motioning between the two.  "This is Camisado.  She's a potential that I happened across.  I was just about to see if she were available for a bit of work.  Camisado, Marlene.  Marlene is a... we'll call her a friend."

Marlene reached out a hand to Camisado.  "Nice to meet you!"
