The slums are a rundown, old heap of a town tucked deep in the jungles, with townsfolk consisting mostly of poachers, black marketeers, thieves, and fugitives. While the ideal tourist spot, some travel to the Slums to make use of the black markets. (+2 Defense, +2 Speed)

Return to The Slums

What, exactly, is that STENCH!? {Snicky Hunt} [P]

Postby Sitka » 11/12/2008 4:36 PM

[Sorry guys, this is private. Trying to build up Darcy and Copernicus' level XD]

The hideously disgusting odors that seemed to be drifting up from the earth took away a considerable amount of beauty the early dawn had for the Slums. It would seem that as the sun rose higher into the sky, the harsher the landscape appeared. Now, bathered an a smokey orange haze, the dirty city had a softer appearance.

The early hour had the streets empty. The various hooligans who roamed the street at night long retired to their homes or current sleeping place and the day riff-raff still had a good hour left of sleep before the sun would become too bright to ignore.

Over on the far left of the city, where the houses slowly gave way to jungle, roamed two strange companions.
The smallest of the two was an average Kodile. The soft flurry of snow that fell from his body when his small wings flapped melted upon hitting the muddy ground. His wings were too small for him to actually fly, so he was content with hovering. Occasionally though, he would unleash a small burst of energy and rise a little higher into the air then swoop down, creating arches in the air.

The second and considerably larger of the duo was a Riopath. He walked awkwardly, signifying he was still trying to get used to his new legs. Afraid he much crush something of importance, he chose to follow his Kodile friend, smiling at his in-air antics.
"Copernicus" he asked, when the Kodile started swerving lazily in the air. "Shouldn't we focus?" He wasn't expecting an answer, for as long as he could remember, Copernicus never spoke. Heck, he wasn't even sure if he had the ability too but Beatrice, his owner, had informed him that past Kodiles she ran into have indeed spoken.Conpernicus turned to Darcy and promptly uttered a sound.
"Baahh" he said. Darcy sighed. He was stuck traveling the the Slums with a Kodile who thought he was a sheep. However, with precious morning time being wasted, he looked at Conpericus firmly.
"Snicky." Darcy said, slowly, hoping to communicate with him. Copericus stared back at him blankly. "Snicky" Darcy repeated, slowly saying the word.
"Bah." Copernicus said. Darcy wasn't sure if that was a sign that Copernicus undertsood what he was saying or if he was just 'bahing' for the heck of it. However, Copernicus landed on the ground was a 'thump' and proceeded to look closesly around the shurbbery that decoreated the ground. Smiling to himself, Darcy took over looking in the trees.
Thus, the hunt began.

Copernicus had become so enthralled with the bushes he was looking at, that he decided to crawl into a fairly large one and hide there. Looking at Darcy from his new hiding place, his tail swung slowly back and forth, his eyes locked on him. A movement caught his eye and he watched as a bumblebee danced from flowering weed to flowering weed. He licked his chops, envisioning what a bumblebee would taste like. Forgetting his previous plans of staying undercover, he burst out the the bush and, with a surprisingly large amount of energy, charged at the poor insect. The bee, being the swift and agile thing it was, darted across the yard of a nearby abandoned house, Copernicus on his trail. It was buzzing angrily at him and, if it could speak English, was probably saying something along the lines of "What the heck is that thing?" But, because it was only a bee, it buzzed.

Darcy, captivated by the scene in front of him, gave up his search and chose to watch what would happen.

Tired and throughly buzzed-out, the bee gave up trying to lose Copernicus and, to get away, hid in a deep recess on the tree Darcy was looking in. Copernicus approached Darcy and then proceed to let out an unending stream of monotone 'Bahs' while staring at him blankly. Darcy opened and closed his mouth several times before shushing Copernicus, who would not be swayed. It was quite amazing how the little guy seemingly didn't breathe between the 'bahs'.

Apparently, he didn't, for he soon wavered in the air and crashed to the ground, landing on his back. Darcy inhaled sharply and looked down upon his fallen friend. "Copernicus?" he said, poking him with one of his claws. The small pet was unresponsive. "Uh-oh."

The bee, seeing it's predator laying on the ground, smugly flew out of the tree and did a victory loop. To rub it in more, it landed lightly on Copernicus nose, showing to all the insects of the land that it was, indeed, a Kodile conquerer.

Within a flash, Copernicus' jaws opened and snapped shut, trapping the bee in his mouth. Darcy sighed in relief that he was okay, but frowned when he watched the Kodile lift from the ground, smiling.

"Spit him out." Darcy commanded. Copernicus snorted and turned to fly off, but Darcy would never allow a creature, even a bumblebee, to be hurt while he was around. Steadying his tail he lightly (lightly to him at least) smacked Copernicus on the back of the head, sending him hurtling forward and onto the ground a few feet away. The bee took its chance and escaped, haggardly flying high into the air and disappearing. Copernicus whimpered and looked at Darcy blankly. "It was an innocent thing that didn't deserve to be eaten." he concluded. Copernicus let out some sort of, gargling sound before retreating back into his bush. Rolling his eyes, Darcy moved on to the next tree.

A sudden sneeze emitted from Darcy, so strong that it blew the leaves off a nearby branch. Copernicus leapt from his haven, let out a loud pop, then quickly retreated, pretending as if nothing happened. Darcy blinked.
"You are the strangest creature in existence." he concluded.
"Bah." Copernicus remarked. Darcy, noticing a bolder nearby, trudged over and lifted it, checking under for the elusive creature they were searching for. He began talking, more to himself then to Copernicus.
"I was thinking what we were going to do after the Snicky hunt. I mean, we're really far away from everyone else, and we're in the Slums of all places. Personally, I wouldn't mind it so bad, but if we were to run into a nasty Battleheart or something..." he shuddered.
"Bah." Copernicus added insightfully.
"I wish I knew what was going on in your mind..." Darcy muttered, shaking his head, his long mane whipping around his head.

In fact, if one was to look into Copernicus mind, they'd be amazed what they would find. This Kodile has managed to figure out the exact battle plan that could be used to defeat almost any large creature, and with Darcy mentioning a Battleheart, he had already ran through various scenarios and outcomes. He concluded attacking the wings would be their best bet. Of course, he promptly forgot all that information when he looked upon a buttercup. Being yellow, he thought of one thing.

Cheese.

Copernicus purred, imagining a deliciously large slice of cheddar cheese.

He loved him some cheese.

The morning slowly wore on. Darcy had searched nearly every available tree, and because Copernicus wouldn't leave his 'special place', he looked in every bush as well. Stretching and yawning, he looked to Copernicus' bush.
"I'm pretty sure this area is snicky-free. Lets go somewhere else." When Copernicus didn't reveal himself, Darcy poked his head into the shrub.

He wasn't there.

His head shot up and he looked around wildly. Copernicus, he believed, wasn't the kind of creature that could survive on it's own. Images of other things eating him flashed in his mind.

"Copernicus?" he shouted. "Copernicus?" his voice gained a layer of panic. "What do I do?" he thought wildly to himself. The abandon house, whose yard Copernicus chased the bumblebee in, caught his eye.

He had to start somewhere, right?
