Vella padded out of the small house she was living in, it was a nice clean house; perfect for someone who only needed a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Honestly though she didn’t really need any of the rooms, not any more. She had E do a quick sweep of the front of her house, making sure it was safe for her to go out. She saw that there was no one, not even when E switched through a few planes. Sighing with relief she carefully opened the door.

The black wisp of smoke returned to floating around her head as she poked her nose through the door. Shifting quickly into her human form, she hated to do it; she could feel her mortal body suppressing her magic. She could still use it of course, but her mortal body would then have to recharge and that took a long time, time she didn’t really have. Even as an immortal angel her fall from the sky had taken its toll on a lot of things in her life. She could trust no one, her powers though stronger than ever had their limits when she took on other forms, and she was now able to sin, and craved at times to do sinful things.

It took her a long time to come to grips with herself and the new life she lived on the human’s world. When she first fell, she lost connection with the heavens, so she had been turned mortal, forced to live a life that she had long forgotten. She had to reteach herself how to breathe, and she had to get used to the feeling of hunger and thirst. It had been a long times since she had been around humans and other non-immortal beings. Her human form was especially cold today, another sensation she was still not used to, hot and cold.

Back in the days of her true mortal existence they didn’t even have cities, not even villages dotted the world, only hunter gatherers. She had been a hunter; she had lived on her own. By the age of six her parents had moved on, telling her it was time for her to leave and getting viciously protective of their ‘territory’. Vella also remembered that it was perfectly normal for this to happen, she even ran into others her age and younger. She had never taken a mate, nor had she experienced the pain of childbirth. A giant thing had squashed her before she was even out of her parent’s territory, and then she was waking up in the clouds.

Her mortal life was complicated; it was a time of unorganization and untrusting peoples. No one traveled in groups; no one looked out for each other. There was a lot of death, and not a lot of empathy. No one knew even how to plant crops, let alone build a fire. The gods had not been closely involved with the first settlers of Evelon. When she died the gods didn’t even acknowledge her, there was no heaven and no hell just a sort of limbo, a waiting zone. At the time there was nothing to wait for, there was just emptiness.

Snapping back into reality she pulled out a small phone, it wasn’t a blocky IPhone, no those where long gone it was something slimmer, with a holographic screen that she could move just by thinking about what she wanted to appear. With the ever of E and her brain mapping out where she wanted to go she entered a few sets of coordinates. “Damn its cold” she growled under her breath, interrupting her thought process. Mustering the most amount of energy she could she switched planes, her mortal body was worn out almost instantly and she had to take a few moments to catch her breath. Well, at least she was warm now.

She had been told that another person had wanted to meet her. She had no idea who but the information had come from a reliable source so she assumed that everything would turn out okay. Though if it didn’t she could always just cast lightning down from the sky and burn them onto the sidewalk. The phone beeped, it had finished faster than she had expected. Where she was going was all the way on another continent, buried deep within a desert.

Having E watch the phone for her she followed its path carefully. She had already switched to a different plane one that was safe enough for her to be in her lucain form. Lucky enough for her she was able to access the deepest levels of her powers. She felt her lightning just below the surface of her skin, sparking and searching for any way to escape. Lightning was dangerous for its wielders; it took many long years or patience and practice before it could be fully controlled, and most students, however immortal they may be, died within the first few days.

Taking her time to check her surroundings she grabbed hold of a rattegan’s conscious and had it scout out the area, she knew well that there would be at least one person following her. She just hoped it was the person she knew, and not some random violent creature or a bounty hunter, those guys where ruthless. The place was clear for now, but she sensed someone near. On another plane but unnervingly close to her. Shaking the feeling off, she started walking again, the docks close in sight.

-Curious- Scarlet thought, what was this fallen angel doing going to the docks? She had no idea, but she wasn’t just going to sit and ponder. She knew the angel close enough and they almost shared the same boss so it couldn’t be that awkward. Smirking she followed, switching planes quickly until she was on the stuffy mortal one. Sticking out her tongue she shifted forms, she had never been fond of the mortals.

–Damn humans are gross.- she always hated having to take the form of one, especially since she could hardly take the thought of them. Technically she would still be considered human. Though she had been around demons for so long, and had demon blood running through her veins. Plus she took on a demon form with demon powers and it was hard for anyone to tell she could have ever been one of the mortals.

Moving on, her thoughts shot back to the angel, she was not usually one to show herself to such a holy being voluntarily. Scarlet knew that Vella was no saint; Vella had fallen and now she was on neutral ground. The younger girl approached the angel, showing her distaste but made no move to hurt Vella. “May I join you?” she asked her voice sickly sweet, her eyes flashing something that Vella couldn’t catch. “Of course…” The angel replied her voice on edge.

That was the thing about angels and mortals they never could hide their emotions as well as they wished. They were always looking for some kind of evil motive or some wrong move on the others part. Demons on the other hand where always doing the evil so they didn’t have to find out who the bad guy was. They could keep a blank face and keep their cool around mortals and angels. Thought seeing Scarlet with just a group of demons was a lot different, depending on whom they were of course.

Around other demons it was pure competition, there was no rest, and absolutely no weakness. If she was at the top of the ranking scale she didn’t have to worry, she could relax while the others argued and tried to get her attention. Though when she had higher ups with her she was a kiss ass and killed most anyone who got in her way; that was how she had become such a high ranking demon, instead of arguing Scarlet killed. That was admired by her bosses, they hated the gossip and fights that their lowers would get into, so when she would just silently kill them somewhere else in private she would come with them and have no one to argue with; plus with no one else around all eyes were on her.

Now at this point, with all eyes on her, that was when most demons racked, or made a mistake and then the high ranking demons would have a little snack on their prey. She was clever and good at what she did. So she made sure any slip-ups would not be caught. For now no slip-ups had arisen everything was going pretty smoothly. And it did help that she had gained the respect of a few very high ranking people, plus she had a master of sorts to protect her. Protection while not wanted, was spectacularly helpful.
