Morgaine could hear him outside her spell room, but she had no time for his cowardice, at least not right now. Now she was working finishing a complicated protection spell for a client and took much of her concentration. If she let Element in here her focus would be on him instead and she could botch this spell and her four weeks of work would be ruined. She went to her basket of plants that she had just collected with her friend Scotch and picked out the lotus root that she needed. She turned back to her cauldron that contained a bright purple liquid bubbling away inside. It was so tall that she had to use a step stool to reach the rim. She had decided long ago not to waste energy with levitation when one has a good step stool. Her grimore, however, was another story that was hanging in the air next to her at the perfect height for her to read. She flicked her wrist and the page turned to reveal the spot that she was looking for. “Add the lotus root when the potion has turned purple. Grate into a fine powder into the potion.” She got down off the stepstool and went to get her grater from the shelf on the side wall. Her grimore followed her as she moved there and back. As she grated the root the potion turned a lovely turquoise color. “Continue to stew for three nights under the full moon. Harvest on the last day when the moon is at its peak.” She clapped her paws together and sent the grimore back to its hiding place. “Now to just wait.” It was then that a knock announced itself at her door. Well, perhaps Element was getting some courage after all. “Come in, Element.”
