Flowing like Time (Self)

Water was the only place Daimhin felt truly comfortable.

Life on the surface was hard. No one understood her, not really - the constant company of Niamh was pleasant, but she did not know what it was like to be immortal. She would come and go as everyone did, and leave her alone again. The day would come. It could happen at any time. Getting attached to the girl had been a massive mistake in the first place, but she couldn't turn back time now. It was too late. Their bond was there. That's why she had chosen to take this 'vacation', as they called it.

The waves surrounded her in a cool, welcome embrace, and she closed her eyes as she slipped under the surface.

Instantly, floods of delight and relaxation washed over her. Daimhin opened her eyes slowly, staring down into the depths; she couldn't make out too much initially since living on land tended to dampen her aquatic abilities, but it would come. She could already sense the shoals of fish and the reefs beneath her.

It was her sole intention to simply swim. No matter how far she got - getting a chance to clear her mind and enjoy the one thing that kept her going was invaluable and would help her to come to terms with what was troubling her. If it took hours, days, weeks, she would do it until she was ready to return to her life on the shore.

The ocean was cold, but Daimhin did not feel it a bit. It was where she belonged. Water was part of her, and she was part of it - it could never harm her or affect her in any negative way. Wading deeper and deeper felt effortless. Her eyes adjusted quickly, letting her take note of what she was approaching on the sea floor. It looked like.. a wreck, of some sort? Shipwreck?

Going there was undoubtedly an awful idea. There was something.. off about the whole thing, something that told her that she was about to run into something unfriendly. She never felt unwelcome in the water, but it was striking her here, for some reason. Curiousity burned. What could be powerful enough to make a deity feel uncomfortable?

The wreck had been underwater for a long time. Algae was running rampant, and she could already tell that sealife had made their homes within the boat's sorry shell. The closer she got, the more of a negative air she felt; the aura of the boat itself was giving off a strong repulsive signal, trying to push her to turn back.

"Hello?" Speaking underwater would seem a stupid idea to anyone else, but Daimhin was not bound by laws of logic. Her voice echoed as clearly as it would on land. As expected, no one answered, but at least whatever was there would now be aware of her presence. They would be prepared for her approach.

Daimhin sighed softly as her feet touched the sandy sea bed. She walked along as easily as she would on land, teal hair flowing behind her as she went; she kept her steps cautious in the fear of unearthing anything untoward. Nothing happened. The silence was more unnerving than anything colossal that could occur. Even though she knew by just looking at it that the wreck was usually occupied by sealife, nothing could be seen moving. It was unnaturally still.

"Give me strength.." She whispered a quiet charm of protection to herself. Not that it would do much, judging by the potency of the darkness coming from the area. Anything could be laying in wait.

The anything came far faster than Daimhin could have anticipated. Her arms were thrown up to defend herself immediately, and she cowered behind them, having nothing to fight against the creature with. Despite waiting for the blow to come, it never did. Eventually, she gathered the courage to peer from behind her fingers, confused as to why she wasn't being attacked.

"What do you want?" It wasn't human, that was for sure. The thing looked like some sort of half fish nightmare, complete with razor sharp teeth and black eyes. However, it wasn't the source of the negativity. It wasn't a pleasant presence, but it wasn't nearly as bad as whatever was lurking in the ship behind it.

"I can go where I please." Daimhin wasn't feeling as confident as her words may have led people to believe, but she was forced to maintain a brave face. Being intimidated would not do any favours for her. "The more pressing matter is what you mean by this. I can tell your presence is not a happy one."

"It's a flying visit." The thing's teeth flashed as it grinned, a malicious and cruel expression. "We have bigger plans."

"You are not welcome here." Humans might not have been her favourite species, but she wouldn't stand by and allow needless destruction or danger. She could tell that was what they planned on doing.

"What do you have to do with anything?" It was not at all phased by her comments, and tipped its head, its ugly grin still held in place. "You ain't any kind of authority, lady. Not that an authority could stop this."

Daimhin frowned, suddenly beginning to feel the chill of the water around her. It was utterly unpleasant. It wasn't even within her capabilities as a being to feel sick, but her stomach was churning in discomfort. Whatever the thing's boss was, it was nasty. Nastier than anyone on the near coast would be prepared to deal with.

"Why do you want to trouble these people?"

"Because it's fun."

The way the creature replied was so flippant and careless that it spiked deep anger in Daimhin. How could it be so cruel? It was a silly question, since the very essence of their surroundings was dark, but the true evil of people never failed to surprise her. Goodness was hard to find. If only that wasn't the case.

"You have no right. I will find a way to cast you out." She answered sharply. It laughed, shaking its head.

"No one could move us, lady. I'd get outta here before the big guy wakes up, or you'll be supper."

Some vacation this was turning out to be.

Daimhin had no choice but to retreat back towards the shore, twice as fast as she'd been moving before. Someone had to be told about this. Perhaps no one would believe her, but she had to at least try, for the sake of innocent lives who would never see it coming. Sipping cocktails and reclining on the beach was a nonsense concept in the face of something more vital.

If only Niamh were here. For once in her life, she was craving the advice of a mortal.
