Nestled between Barakka and Lambastia, this salty sea's ownership is always under debate. One thing is known though; dangerous currents pass through the sea, sweeping from the northeast down through the southwest outlet. (+3 Speed)

Wheeling around, she addressed the captain, who was looking rather annoyed about being ignored. "Captain, I can't really explain, but we need to be prepared for...for a storm...sort of," she said, stumbling only slightly. As were most of the regular Evelonian sailors, the captain was no stranger to the supernatural beings of the sea. However, a storm spirit was well beyond the norm - few had ever heard of them, much less believed in them.

The captain had a questioning brow raised, waiting for an explanation she sensed was coming. "I'm sure you heard the story of a freak storm 3 days ago?" Piper asked. The captain nodded, of course she had; word travelled fast in the ports, it was a necessity of the lifestyle.

Piper glanced over her shoulder at the horizon uselessly. Though there was still nothing to see, she sensed the storm's course change ever so slightly towards them. She turned back to the captain. "It was actually a storm spirit of some sort - looking to entertain herself by toying with the lives of sailors," she informed the woman, an edge creeping into her voice at the memory. She was still plenty angry about Arabex's flippant attitude.

The captain seemed to be thinking this new piece of information over as Piper checked on the storm again. A faint gray had touched the horizon and she could sense the storm's path starting to turn and pick up speed. They would have only moments. She wheeled around, "Captain! She's coming - there's no time to waste!"

It was likely the urgency in Piper's voice that pushed the captain into action. The woman turned and hollered, "All hands on deck! We've got a storm incoming! It'll be on us in seconds, sailors, get your asses in gear!" Startled, the crew scrambled for the rigging, spare ropes, or the cargo - whatever it was that needed doing. Piper practically hurdled the railing and hit the lower deck running. They needed more hands on the mainsail.

Sure enough, they heard a loud crack of thunder just as she started to help haul the sail up. She saw some heads turn and watch the sky in shock. She didn't have to - she'd seen it before. The sky almost instantly grew dark and lightning lit the sea around them. Finishing the work on the sail, she glanced at the open sea - there weren't any other vessels in the immediate area and she wasn't sure yet whether that was good or bad. With a moment's pause, she glared at the sky. She could almost swear she heard Arabex laugh.

The boat found itself being tossed among the waves like a toy, the crew abandoning their tasks in order to cling for their lives. No one could fault them for the cannon and 3 barrels that were lost overboard in the process. The fact alone that they lost a cannon was a clear sign of how violent the motion was. It was a miracle they hadn't lost any crew, though several had been saved only because they managed to catch the lifeline. Piper herself had grabbed some netted-down crates and cursed silently when a loose barrel flew over and nearly crushed her up against the wood.

"I swear to the stars, if I ever get my hands on you again-" a bolt of lightning arced over the ship mast, the loud thunder cutting her off as if Arabex were taunting her. Oh yeah? You'll do what? she could almost hear her saying.

As violent as the sea was being, no one expected the gust of wind that actually managed to capsize the ship. This was the problem - sorry, the biggest problem - with a storm spirit, they were completely unpredictable. You have no idea how difficult, arguably impossible it is to completely bowl over a large merchant vessel? These things were built to stay upright. Nonetheless, the crew found themselves in the water. In such a situation it was impossible to say whether the ones who'd been thrown in the process were luckier than the ones who now found themselves underwater beneath an entire ship.

Piper was one of the latter, but thankfully she could hold her breath for a very long time. Her vision just as clear underwater as above, she moved to rescue those among her crew tangled in ropes or visibly running out of air. She hoped those belowdecks would be safe from drowning, at least, as the ship had capsized so fast, it had probably caused an air pocket inside.

Saving who she could, Piper watched the cannons disappear into the depths one by one as the ropes failed to hold their weight. Her eyes shifted to the still bodies of the men who had drowned before she could reach them. A heaviness grew in her heart, fuelling her fury towards Arabex. Damn that storm.

The water around her seemed to shift violently, and she swam clear of the ship with a speed no ordinary human could be capable of. Breaking the surface, she found herself surrounded by shouting as injured, unconscious or simply exhausted sailors were hauled onto crates and driftwood by their comrades. The wind howled overhead as the air crackled like an impending lightning bolt.

Piper looked up at the sky, slightly confused. It had been a while since lightning had struck - though the wind and rain were relentless. What was Arabex doing, exactly? After a moment, she heard thumping from the hull of the ship. It sounded like those inside were hitting it with something hard and heavy, she suspected it was one of the belowdecks cannons.

Looking up, she pulled herself up as straight as she could while treading water. "Arabex! Enough! Fix our ship!" she demanded. The storm seemed to pause a moment, then there was the sound of laughter, drowned out by an ensuing crash of thunder. After a moment of nothing else happening, Piper ground her teeth. She had a feeling the storm was waiting for something, but she couldn't say how she knew that. "Please," she muttered bitterly. Seemingly in response, the wind howled again, stronger and stronger, as though struggling against the ship's hull. Within moments, the ship sprung free of the depths and was teetering violently above the waves where it belonged.

The healthy members of the crew hauled themselves on board as battered and bleeding men and women hauled themselves up from belowdecks. A few draped themselves over the railing, not caring about its intense rocking motion after what they had just been through. Piper remained below, corralling those unable to swim for whatever reason. The ropes and lifesavers came down fairly quickly and a few sailors jumped back overboard to help her prep their comrades to be hauled up.

The wind howled around them, batting at the people dangling from the ship's side like a kitten after a string and apparently trying to knock over those perched on the rail to assist. One or two took a tumble into the sea, relatively unharmed as they cursed and pulled themselves back up on board. It didn't escape Piper's notice though that Arabex was being rather benign compared to her earlier antics.

Wary of the storm, Piper helped the last of her crew before grabbing the last rope left just for her. She hauled herself up to the rail and paused there for a moment to rest. She looked up at the quieting storm, getting the feeling that Arabex was simply...watching them. Why, exactly, she couldn't say. She didn't understand what could possibly be so entertaining about this situation. A call for her name drew her attention back down to the ship deck. The captain, one arm in a makeshift sling, was waving her good arm for Piper's attention. The woman shouted something and pointed at the sky and then the sea. Piper frowned, not understanding.

She moved to go over to the captain, standing just inside the rail for a second to regain her balance on the swaying wood. Almost the second she let go of the railing, the ship lurched violently, toppling her backwards over the railing. Normally, this would have only inconvenienced her, but she saw that a mass of driftwood and debris had swirled up along the ship's side. There was no way she could plunge through that and come out unscathed.

What happened next actually took Piper a second to process, it was so unexpected. She found herself...flying. The ship and sea slowly drifted away from her as she rose up just beyond the mast height. After a brief moment, she became aware that she was actually being held. She turned her head just as Arabex's face finished solidifying into its humanoid shape. The spirit seemed greatly amused, her eyes dancing. Piper wanted to be angry, yet at the same time it seemed a terrible idea while being held up in the sky at a height that could very well kill even her if she were to fall. "Well, now Miss Sailor, feel like telling me your name yet?" Arabex asked.

Piper couldn't help but gawk. Did the f****** actually do all this s*** just to find out her name? She scowled, and was about to give the spirit a good tongue lashing when she heard shouting below. Both women turned to look at the ship, which was now being drawn into a forming whirlpool. The sea liked its patterns, such as they were, and didn't just form whirlpools all willy-nilly. Normally though, it wasn't being agitated by a storm spirit just doing as she liked.

Piper glared at Arabex, not needing words to convey 'this is your fault'. The spirit pouted. "What? I'm a land storm, how was I supposed to know this could happen?" she responded indignantly. Seriously? Piper couldn't believe what she was hearing. If Arabex wasn't even a sea storm, what in the heavens was she doing out here? Piper heard her almost helpless shipmates shouting as they scrambled uselessly around the deck. This must be what her captain had been trying to tell her. She was so tired and wrapped up in dealing with the storm, Piper hadn't even noticed the shift in the sea's attitude, but her captain - a mortal - had.

"Take me down there!" she practically shouted at Arabex. The spirit looked at her in confusion and didn't budge. "What are you going to do?" she asked, "they're gone for. You don't gott-" Piper didn't let her finish her sentence, grabbing the woman's shirt in her fist and snapping, "I'm going to clean up your starsdamned mess! Or die trying!"

The look in her eye didn't leave any room for argument, and Arabex seemed to recognize that. In her first act of humility, she lowered them both to the ship level. She was about to lower them onto the deck, but Piper shook her head and gestured to the water. Arabex looked at her as if she'd lost her mind, but the girl set her mouth and glared back commandingly.

Arabex had never been commanded before, and usually laughed at any attempt people made to do so. Yet here she was, obeying silent commands from this girl without a word. What on earth was this girl? Though reluctant, she took them both to the churning water's surface, hesitating as their feet nearly touched the rapidly accelerating current. Surely even she could get sucked into the sea. She wasn't sure, actually, but she really didn't want to find out.

Piper noticed the storm's hesitation and flipped herself out of the woman's arms, forcing the spirit to catch her around the waist and dragging them both down into the water. Not quite hip-deep, the current had them snagged, and Piper could feel the storm pulling with everything she had to keep them from moving too far too fast. She did her best to block out this awareness and focused on the water instead, closing her eyes to help her concentrate.

Breathing steady, like the lapping of waves on a shore, she reached into the deep blue. For a moment, the blue looked back, and then ignored her in favour of its fury. The sea was free, it did as it wished, when it wished. It did not comply with the wishes of silly little air spirits who were so self-important despite being so cosmically insignificant. With a surging glee, the water would rip apart all notions anyone had that it could be tamed. Piper felt this as much as sensed it, her gut felt like it longed for her to plunge into the depths and join the deep blue in its spite.

Grabbing hold of her mortal self, she resisted the sea's pull, holding herself like a rock in the current, strong and immovable. The sea merely parted around her and left her behind. She was aware, on a level she had never been before, that she was weak and inconsequential. Desperately, she reached her mind into the blue, as far as it could reach and then a little bit farther. Only seconds later did she find what she was looking for.

The gentle touch of her mother's spirit soothed her. There were no words in the deep blue, but she could sense that her mother was aware of the situation and wanted to help. The older woman was too far to intervene, but she urged Piper to be strong. With her help, the girl was strong enough to calm the blue - or so she truly believed. She reached her mind, with her mother's guidance, into the currents and the depths. Gently, calmly, she sent pulses into it, like the beating of her heart, urging it to remain faithful to itself and move on. It was great and powerful - it was above responding to the petty attitudes of a mere storm.

Slowly, the sea relaxed, the currents sluggishly shifting to their rightful courses. Her mother's presence faded, and Piper missed it, wondering for a moment why she hadn't even said goodbye until she realized it wasn't her mother who'd pulled away. Piper herself had pulled back unconsciously, unable to stretch herself anymore. Slowly, she became dimly aware of having limbs, which vaguely seemed cold and wet. There was a voice, sounding flippant and conversational at first, then curious, and finally a little confused, even stressed.

Ah yes, Arabex. She could feel the woman holding her, feel a sort of pull downward that told her they were rising. Her body was just so tired, it almost felt like it wasn't even hers. Could she lift this hand, if she tried? It didn't seem possible. The voice said something else, paused, and then muttered a bunch. Or at least, Piper was pretty sure she was muttering. It sounded like thunder, but was impossibly quiet. After a moment, she felt herself being set down on a hard, swaying surface and the voices increased. She felt the spirit leave her, first physically moving away and then disappearing beyond the horizon as the niggling sensation in Piper's brain faded. Everything faded to black to the sound of a voice she eventually recognized as the captain's.
