Burning in their chest told the leviathan it needed to breathe. With the aide of swim bladders and many fins the great serpent rose from the depths where it preferred to swim, their body adjusting to the changes in pressure as it ascended. The surface, once distant and lost in the enveloping gloom was a beacon of sunlight dancing on the waves. Unlike whales and their ilk, this serpent didn't break the surface with a spray of water but rather their head sliding smoothly above the waves,just enough to see the immediate surroundings, water cascading down their scaly face. Warily, they surveyed the ocean around them relaxing only once certain they were alone.
