Mist

A purine magistrey flew towards the forest, two matches behind her. "You will be able to get your training now." said the magistrey as they landed in a hollow within a tree. Then she turned to the two, a glacial and imperial matches. "Are you ready?" she asked. The glacial nodded vigorously. "Yes Sky. I'm ready." he said. "Okay Mist, you will start first. What about you Smoke?" Sky asked the imperial. Velvetsmoke nodded. "Yeah." she said. Sky nodded. "Okay let's start. Remember. Mist is first." she said.

Suddenly Sky shot forward and knocked Mist out of the hollow. Smoke just stared and watched. Sky looked out to make sure Mist was alright to see him shaking on a branch, then turned to Smoke and told her to stay there and, if she wanted, watch. Then Sky turned again, spread her wings and glided out of the hollow.

Mist stood perched on the branch, shaking. He remembered Sky knocking him out of the hollow. Then he was plummeting towards the ground. He was terrified, the thought he was going to die, or at least get hurt...badly. Then he had remembered his wings and opened them. Shakily, he flew to the branch he was now on. He hoped the rest of the training wouldn't be like that. Then he saw Sky glide out of the hollow towards his branch. He perked up, trying not to show he had been scared.

Sky landed swiftly on the branch and looked at Mist. He was obviously trying to hide his fear. She chuckled. "Ready?" she asked him, shifting on the branch. Mist looked up. "Yeah..." he started, only to be cut off as Sky shot towards him. He flinched and recoiled, ready for a blow, but Sky stopped at the last second. "Mist." she said sternly. "Think! You can't just sit there and wait for the blow. You have to act." she scolded, then she flew back to where she was. "Now answer me truthfully, are you ready?" she asked. Mist thought for a minute, then nodded. Just as he did, Sky flew towards him again. This time he recoiled, then remembered not to do that, so at the last minute, he lent over and dropped off of the branch, opening his wings and flying to the next. Sky turned and landed next to him, trilling happily. "You did it!" she trilled. Mist looked up happily, he did it! However, he had spent alot of energy forcing himself to relax. Now he was really tired. Sky noticed and nuged him gently. "I'll work with Smoke now. Let's go back to the hollow." she said softly, and they flew off towards the hollow.

Sky was looking forward to training Smoke. Smoke wasn't the bravest, but she was a good thinker. If she were in the war, her best position would probably be planning strategies. Her mind and the fact that she, like most matches, was small and agile, made up the fact that she wasn't much of a fighter. Sky figured that, with training, Smoke would be a pretty good fighter.

The two landed in the hollow, to see Smoke push some food towards them. "I figured you would be hungry, so I got some food." she said. Sky watched as Mist dove forwards and ate. Sky hopped towards the food, and thanking Smoke, began to eat. Smoke even had her own food, for she turned and pulled some towards the other two, and began to eat.

When they finished, Sky hopped over to the hollow's opening. "Okay Smoke, it's your go." she said, and screeched, falling out of the hole, for Smoke had just plowed into her back. When she fell out, Sky opened her wings and flew to the closest branch. She looked up to see Smoke fly down to the branch. "Was that a good start?" she asked Sky. Sky chuckled. "Yes Smoke. I wasn't expecting that." she replied. Smoke trilled happily. She liked to be complimented.

Sky looked at smoke. "Ready?" she asked. "As I'll ever be." Smoke responded, and flew off the branch when Sky shot towards her. Then Sky flew higher and, positioning herself, dove down towards Smoke. Noticing that Sky wasn't persuing her, Smoke wheeled around, and saw Sky diving towards her. Quickly, she flew back until she was in front of a tree, then at the last second, she stopped flying and let herself drop until she was safely out of the way. Sky screeched, surprised, as Smoke seemingly dissapeared in front of her. She tried to stop and ended up flying into the tree. She dropped until she neared a branch, and then flew over to it. Smoke flew over and landed next to her. "Good job Smoke. I thought you would tire out before me, but with that stunt, it's the opposite. Quick thinking by the way." Sky told her. Smoke swelled with pride, then noticing Sky's tiredness, helped her back to the hollow.

The two landed in the hollow to see Mist waiting for them, looking sad. Smoke went over to him. "Mist? What's wrong?" she asked him. He looked at her sadly. "You're so much better than me. I'll never be a good fighter." he replied. Sky looked over from where she was resting. "Don't take it hard on yourself Mist. Some people are better than others, and with training, you will be a good fighter, and Smoke will be able to fight better as well." she told him. Then Sky perked her head up. "I have an idea. You two can fight each other! You do need to learn to fight against opponents that have different styles." she said to them. They looked at each other and after a minuite, nodded. "Okay Sky, but watch, we want our teacher to know how we are doing." Smoke said. Sky nodded and shifted to a new place to rest where she could see out the hollow.

Smoke let Mist fly down to a branch before following. She looked back up at Sky. "When can we start?" she asked. Sky chuckled and responded. "Anytime you're ready." she said. Smoke looked at Mist, and he nodded. "You go first Mist." she said. Mist nodded hesitantly, then giving himself a shake, he flew at Smoke. Smoke dropped off the branch and flew to the next. Then she wheeled around and flew at him. Mist screeched in alarm as Smoke hit him in the side. Then he remembered not to be a baby, so he did a backwards loop to try and hit Smoke from above. Smoke gasped as Mist's weight slammed into her back. She staggered in midair, then flew to the closest branch. Mist followed his sister, and landed on the branch with ease. Smoke winced as her talons hit the rough branch. Noticing her pain, Mist helped her balance. "let's go see how we did." he suggested. Smoke nodded, and Mist helped his sister take off for the hollow.

Suddenly, a colbat matches plummed out of the sky and landed in front of Sky. Quickly, she got up.
"Hello! Sorry for the unexpected arrival. I'm learning to fly, and suddenly dropped," she said happily, jumping up and down. "What are you doing here?"

Sky jumped as the matches appeared almost out of nowhere. Then, hearing the explaination, chuckled. "I'm here to teach two of my young friends, who are matches like you, how to fight." she said. "And here they come." Sure enough, the two others flew into the hollow, Smoke wincing as she landed. Both were surprised to see another of their kind here. "Uh, hello. Who are you?" Mist asked, trying to be polite. Smoke could only find the energy to nod, then she collapsed into a pile of leaves, hoping to get her energy back quick. Mist just looked at his sister quickly to make sure she was okay before turning back to the newcommer.

"Hi! I'm Ice Stream! What's your names?" still bouncing up and down, Ice Stream bounced over to Smoke and Mist. As she turned back to Sky, she asked eagerly, "Can you teach me to fly? And then how to fight?"
She flapped her wings and flew 2 feet above the ground, and dropped into a pile of feathers.
"I'm not too good at flying yet, as you can tell."

OOC: Is the short form of the name Ice?

Sky glanced at Mist who gestured at Smoke. Understanding, she nodded and helped Ice up. "Yes, I can teach you to fly, then fight, if you don't mind me teaching these two as well. Oh, my name is Sky." she said, then gestured to Mist. Mist nodded and spoke up. "Yes, my name is Mist. This is my sister, Velvetsmoke, Smoke for short." he said, indicating his sister as he introduced her. Smoke merely nodded. Sky turned to Ice again. "Have you tried branching? You fly from branch to branch, starting with ones close together, then moving farther and farther." she said, trying to figure out where in her training Ice was.

"It'll be more fun training with other Matches! And no, I haven't done branching. I didn't get the proper training," Ice hopped over to a branch and hopped to another one 3 inches away. "Is that close enough to start with?"
Without waiting for the answer, she hopped to another branch.

Sky smiled. "Yes, but seeing as you made it about 2 feet off the ground a minute ago, I think you can go a little farther. Try flapping your wings a bit, to learn how to catch the air." she called. Mist hopped up and nodded. "Yeah, you'll be flying like a pro in no time!" he called, then turned to Sky. "How did we do, before Ice came?" he asked. Sky, remembering, thought about it. "That backflip was a good move, but you should have expected Smoke to fly away when you started. As for Smoke, you should be prepared for other moves, like Mist's move, don't just hit and hope, hit and move. Other than that, great job." she said to them. Then she flew out of the hollow and landed a few branches ahead of Ice to watch her, leaving Mist to care for his sister.

Ice flapped her wings and hopped to a branch 1 foot away from the one she was on. Then to one 1 foot, 3 inches away, then 11/2 feet away. That was when she got tired, hopped back to the hollow, and decided to watch Smoke and Mist train for a while.
It will be exciting, learning to fight, though I guess flying might be fun, too.
