Where...where am I? Who...who am I?
A thick jungle canopy...sunlight streaming through a gap.
A figure...such eyes...looking at me... Darkness again.

That smell...fire...
That person...tending the fire.
He shifted, attempting to stand.
"I wouldn't try that if I were you." the voice rang through his head like a bell and he collapsed again. He groaned and looked up. "Who...who are you? What...what is your name? and me...who am I?"
She turned at his voice. Those eyes... "Who I am is not important. Nor is my name. If you do not know yourself, then who you are is not important either."
He blinked and looked into her eyes. "Your...eyes..." he whispered, "They look...so sad..."
She smiled at him and reached out, putting her hand between his eyes and stroking him. The fellox closed his eyes and sighed softly, enjoying her soft strokes. "What should I call you then?" he asked her, looking up into her eyes. Such sad eyes...she has seen much.
"You can call me whatever you like." she said softly to him. He loved her voice...like a soft chime of a bell. "How about Chime?"
She chuckled softly. "Interesting choice." she said.
He looked up at her again. "What about me? I have no name." he said. She rested her hand and cocked her head. "Ochite. It means Falling, or Dissapears. Either way."
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

[center]The aqua eyes blinked open and the fellox shifted. Looking around, he remembered where he was...or at least, being there not long ago. Perking his ears, he looked at the fire, now a few smouldering embers and alot of smoke.

She's gone.

He sighed and laid his head down, watching the smoke curl in the air. Then there was a rustle nearby, and a young woman walked out. She was tanned, had black hair with a few white highlights in it, and was wearing orange and black clothing. She was carrying a basket with some fruit, bread and vegtables in it. Looking up, she saw him move and smiled lightly.
Instictively, he bared his fangs at her, then saw her eyes and relaxed. "This is a human form." she said with a small chuckle.

Sitting down, she took out a knife and started to cut the basket's contents. He watched her, his eyes following every movement, admiring the gentleness of her hands, holding the food like prized glass artwork.

The fellox's eyes opened again to the smell of food. Cooked food on a crude plate sitting in front of him. He lifted his head, and reached out to sniff it tenitavely.
"It's not poisoned." He jerked his head at her voice. He noticed her sitting near the fire, watching him. Watching me with those sad eyes of hers.
"Chime?" he croaked. She nodded and stood up, placing a wooden bowl of water in front of him. Then she sat down and proceeded to watch with a light smile. The fellox looked around and noticed some wooden bowls and crude pots and the like. As well as a pile of herbs and other vegtables laying on the ground near the fire.
"You live here?" he asked after emptying the bowl. Chime nodded and looked around. "Not much huh? I do not normally get guests here, and I was quite surprised when I came home to find you passed out in my bedroom." she said to him, smiling a bit. Sure enough, the fellox was laying on a pile of reeds and soft moss. As he finished the plate, she reached out and stroked him.
"Ochite, ochite, whatever happened to you? You have scratches all over, and have been unconcious for two days. I dressed your wounds, and I'm actually quite surprised. You heal quickly. Injuries that would normally take weeks to heal are almost complete, despite having only 3 days." she said, and he sighed as her cool hand stroked his fur.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

Kaomjii
(kah-[uh]m-djee)

The little batti glided through the tree trunks, enjoying himself entirely. It was that kind of day, the day where you just don't find yourself suddenly lost, suprised, and most definatley not get your head stuck in a tree. Nope, not at all. . . Kaomjii made a major discovery that day. He discovered what the inside of a knothole looked like up close. The poor batti squeaked in pain as he wrenched his head out of a hole in the side of the oak he'd just crashed into. He shook the bark out of his long ears and stared around him, getting his bearings from the high side of the trunk. He noted that he had no idea where he was, and that there was a campfire almost directly below him. Not sure if the fire-tenders were friendly, he crept to the other side of the trunk to hide, and peeked around at them timidly.

The two creatures both looked up as they heard a squeak above them. Standing and brushing the dust off of her slightly torn skirt, Chime walked over to the trees.
"Do I have another guest? Come on down, sweetheart." she spoke softly and kindly to whoever was hiding in the trees. Behind her, Ochite finished off the plate of food, and watched the trees ahead of his host as he stretched. He didn't know whether or not the unknown creature found them intimidating. Then again, he did not know how to be unintimidating. He was just himself...whoever himself was.

Kaomjii pulled his head back quick, frightened. His plan was to stay there--hidden and safe. But, curiosity dominated him yet again. He crept down the bark to Chime's feet, swaying and looking down with his hands behind him like a shy child. He stole glances at the settlement around him, noting every detail and small object. Kaomjii stared at Ochite in wonder. How'd he get so hurt? he asked himself.

Chime smiled at the batti before her. "Hello little one. My name, according to this fellox here, is Chime. I have named him Ochite in turn." she said kindly. "And what is your name, if I may ask?" she asked him politely. Her manners seemed far better than the quality of life she lived in. Why did she live in a place like this when she could easily live elsewhere? Such was a question in Ochite's mind as he examined his host and the newcomer. "Are you hungry?" Chime's voice broke into his thoughts and he looked back at her to see her asking the batti if he wanted food.

"O-chi-te. . . I'm Kaomjii," The batti replied, stumbling over Ochite's name. His own name sounded like a horrible pronunciation of 'candy'. "I'm hungry, a little. Do you have melons?" Kaomjii asked quickly, ever-curious about his favorite food. He was blind to the fact that being so forward was a bit rude, and gazed up hopefully with large yet clever eyes.

Chime smiled down at the batti and chuckled. "Yes, Kaomjii. I do have melons, as well as anything else hand-grown. If you want something, feel free to ask." she said gently, and turned. Gracefully, she walked over to a patch in the forest where the leaves were completely covering the trees, making a sort of box. Moving a few aside, she reached in and revealed two melons. "Now how do you normally eat it? Do you cut it up? I am not entirely sure, as I have been away from people for quite a while." she smiled back and asked. Ochite watched her quietly. Occasionally his eyes flicked to Kaomjii. "What are you doing way out here?" he finally asked the small creature, noticing Chime give him a what-about-you type look.

Kaomjii squeaked and perched on top of one of the melons. "Thank you!" he said, and plucked out a handful of melon flesh with his paw. "Oh, I eat them plain. . ." the batti said in an oops-I'm-too-fast way. He hesitated, then ate the melon without soiling anything, his face, fur, vest, barely the paw he used to eat with.

"Why'm I here?" Kaomjii asked, looking up at Ochite. "I live not too far from here. I was just out stretching my wings," he explained. "This melon's very sweet," he noted off-topic, and slid off the side onto the ground. "Do you two live here?" Kaomjii added curiously. The area they both were in looked like a place of living to him, and quite a comfortable one at that.

Without knowing why, Ochite blushed at the comment. Quickly, he turned his head down to the bowl that Chime had just refilled. Meanwhile, the other just laughed lightly. "Why yes little one. I live here. Ochite however, does not. He just woke up from a 2 day sleep after I found him lying here with bad injuries." she said with a smile as she sat on some leaves next to the fire, which was more like a pile of embers at this point. Gracefully, she scooped up some herbs lying there and began to sort, cut or cook them. Occasionally, she'd look up and giggle at her guests. Ochite looked up and knew that she was also curious about how he ended up there, by how she looked at him as she giggled from time to time. With a sigh, he opened his mouth to speak. "It's true, I don't live here. But the fact is, I don't remember anything before here. I remember a breif image of you, Chime, and the last time I woke, but other than that, nothing." he murmered, a tinge of sadness in his voice. He glanced up just in time to see Chime look at him with a smile then return to her herb sorting. Quietly, she paused and looked at the batti. "I do hope I'm not being boring by just sitting here, Kaomjii. Again, I have not been around others for quite some time." she murmured the last part, but Ochite swore he heard a tinge of sadness.

Kaomjii choked on a hastily swallowed piece of melon. "Ohh-h!" he cried out, embarrased. "Well, you were both here, and, it looks like a house, well, it IS a house, but, so. . ." his voice trailed off. He cleared his throat and choked again, then waved off Chime to show she wasn't boring him at all. When he caught his next breath, he looked up at Ochite curiously. "You remember nothing? Really? Nothing nothing?" He paused briefly to contemplate the immense size and capacity of nothing.

"Wow. . . nothing. . . uhn?" The batti looked over at Chime. He'd caught the sad note, too. "Quite some time? When did you see people last?" he asked, as polite as he could be.

Chime looked up to make sure the Batti was alright as he choked a few times. Then she smiled and resumed her work. She looked up again curiously as the batti spoke with Ochite about his memory. The same question was running through her own mind. He couldn't remember anything? Seeing him nod, she turned, but froze as the Batti directed a question at her. Feeling both pairs of eyes boring into her skin, she sighed. "I lose track of time in here...but I belive I've been away for about 3 or 4 years. I've only lived in this particular home for part of that time. Yes, it seems not long ago, yet a lifetime away. An odd feeling, believe me." she smiled sadly and then quickly turned to the batti. "Is that enough food for you little one?" she asked. She attempted to avoid Ochite's questioning eyes as they searched her face.

"Years!" Kaomjii exclaimed. His thoughts ran back to his own gargantuan cave, where he lived with thousands, millions of other battis. They did everything together, ate, slept, fought, survived. He often went out on his own, but never for long periods of time. He could barely imagine five hours without at least ten of them. Even ten that he hated. But three to four years, alone! He stared at her in shock for the rest of her answer, still listening, but shocked.

"Yes, that's enough food for me, thank you," he mimicked, unable to be polite well on his own. He held out the empty shell of melon awkwardly, not sure what Chime normally did with it.

Chime gracefully stood and took the melon shell from her guest with a small smile. Walking over to a path that disapeared into the trees, she set it on a pile of leftover food sitting next to said path. "They make good fertilizer for my crop." she said, and then walked over to Ochite's side. Begining to redress his wounds, she spoke again. "You are suprised. Yes, it would be hard for those that live with many others, friends, and family. But I was already alone..." she paused, and whispered so lightly that it was barely audible. "Except for him. But when he was gone..." she cut off. Had she said too much? Such was the expression on her face as she paled. What made her talk about her personal life so much? The question ran through her mind as she looked up to Ochite. Seeing his eyes look into her own with pity and a hidden emotion, she froze.
"Was he...your lover?" the fellox whispered, not knowing what emotion threatened to take over his mind. Chime winced and nodded slowly.
