The human world was louder than Cosmos had expected.
That was the main thing that preoccupied his mind as he lugged his overpacked suitcase through the crowded streets. Everything was so hurried, and messy, with people going this way and that, no coordination whatsoever. It was only adding to Cosmos’s headache. A omnipotent, omnipresent god shouldn’t cram themselves into a singular form, yet there Cosmos was. Trapped in the small form of a brown skinned, slightly plump young man, dragging a large bag with all of his possessions to the dwelling of another man whom he had an obligation to meet again. Of course, somewhere out there in the universe, Cosmos the God was back at home, making his usual tea, and arranging the stars and particles exactly into the right order. If he disappeared, then everything would disappear. But it was also what allowed Cosmos to take a little piece of his gigantic conscious and send it to Earth.
Cosmos winced out of this train of thought as a car blared at the traffic to his left. He ducked to the side, mumbling an excuse me to the affronted pedestrian he had accidentally cut off. Who had planned this mess?! Well, Cosmos had, but planning the grand scheme of things was much different than actually experiencing it. Maybe he should invest some effort into reducing this awful congestion. Rubbing at the sweat that had collected on his brow–that was a new development–Cosmos continued down the street, then turned off onto a narrow side street that wasn’t as crowded, but was much darker. There was a pub on the corner, and discount shops lining the street, many of them off-brand and probably selling stolen ideas or things. Approaching a narrow shop with a sign on the front declaring ‘MAGIC & MYSTERY: THE AMAZING PSYCHIC WONDER! TAROT, PALM READING, DIVINATION! LEARN WHAT YOUR FUTURE HAS IN STORE!’ The inside was dark, and it didn’t look like the owner was at home.
Cosmos sighed to himself. This was a foolish endeavor. A lot of human time had lapsed between his and Narcyz’s meeting. It was doubtful if the human even remembered his accidental visit with the god. Narcyz had fell onto Cosmos’s living room floor, they had talked, Narcyz had kissed him, and then led him to bed. Afterwards, Narcyz had asked if he was allowed to return, and Cosmos had promised to visit Narcyz, instead. It would be better that way. The space that existed between space, where Cosmos dwelled, would not be good for Narcyz. Human’s souls were too delicate; they would get crushed under the pressure. Cosmos liked Narcyz. The boy was frank and open with many things, but he withheld others. The human was constantly surprising and engaging, and without realizing it, the god had become attached. So Cosmos had decided to come to earth, cramped tight in a human body, and was now standing alone on the sidewalk, doubt crawling into his stomach. Without the link to his other self, he felt stranded. He didn’t know which route was the best to take, which way would lead to the best option. It was terrifying.
Peering into the shop again, Cosmos frowned. He looked up at the second story, his eyes lighting up as he saw light peek through the blinds. So there was someone there. Cosmos gripped at his suitcase. Even if his path in front of him was dark, there was a path. The part of him that was a god was placing it at his feet with the exacting manner that he used with everything. Pressing the button next to the door, Cosmos listened to it ring within the shop, listened to the heart in his chest speed up it’s rhythmic pace, listened to the echo of the human world around him. Cosmos listened, and hoped.
