☃ Evelon Secret Santa 2014

Welcome to Evelon's yearly Secret Santa! Who can imagine the holiday season without it, right? In this event, you get to give a gift to someone else... secretly! And in return, you'll receive a gift... secretly! Users randomly swap names to find out who will be giving to whom! The event never fails to be an absolute blast! And, as they say, the more the merrier, am I right? Let's all get into the giving mood and have some fun together! As our regular yearly host, Freezair, is feeling a bit under the weather at the moment, please allow me, Atoli, to be your temporary host for this year! (Have no fear, I promise it'll have just the same spunk as usual, kiddos! Confetti! Rainbows! Gingerbread! )

☃ How This Works

I'm sure most of you are familiar with Secret Santa as a whole; Evelon's Secret Santa isn't very different! Most of you are old folks to this event, but bear with me and let me cover things for our newcomers, and give a bit of a refresher course for our old members who may have forgotten by now!

1. You sign up by posting below! Yep, that's all you have to do. If you want to be extra helpful, provide a link to your wishlist as well. Don't stress yourself out over this if you don't have one! It's not necessary.    

2. Once the signup period is over, I will put all of the names of the people who have signed up into a hat (that little Santa one that I'll find to uphold the tradition; not sure why I don't have one yet!) and draw them out one at a time. Through this random draw, every person on the list will be assigned a Secret Giftee. They are that person's Secret Santa. Their job is to find that person a gift!

3. By hook or by crook, you, the Secret Santa, obtain your gift for your Secret Giftee! But because it's a Secret Santa, you keep your identity a secret from that person. In other words, don't tell them who you are until you find that person's gift!

4. Send your gift to your Secret Giftee and reveal yourself! And they'll be all happy 'n' stuff. In the meantime, someone else will be your Secret Santa, and you'll receive a gift from them!

☃ Rules!

I know people hate hearing about rules, but really, we need 'em! You can have your fun after this, I promise!

1. Post in this topic to sign up. You will have until SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20th to sign up! After this date, SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED!

2. I will send you the name of your Secret Giftee in a PM. Once you receive this PM, please PM me back to confirm you have gotten it. (This instruction will be repeated in the PM itself.)

3. Once you receive your Secret Giftee, you may not tell them who they are! Remember, it's a secret!

3. You may give your giftee a gift any time after getting their name. Once you send your Giftee a gift, you MUST PM me saying that you've given them a gift. Otherwise I won't know that you've done it! And you'll get in trouble for not making the deadline...

5. The deadline for gift-giving this year is January 7th, 2015. You MUST send out your gifts by this date! If for some reason you feel you will not be able to make the date, PLEASE PM me and explain why! I'm generally pretty forgiving when it comes to excuses, especially given how busy this time of year is. But I also know lame excuses when I see one! (Also, if your Secret Santa is going to be late, I'll send you a PM telling you about it. Don't want to leave you in the dark!)

6. You MUST give your giftee SOMETHING. No skimping out! Everyone who gets something also have to give something. It's like Christmas Karma. And just in case you get to thinking, "Oh, Atoli isn't a mod, she can't get us if we don't give anything," know that this counts as a contract just like breeding restrictions do. You will get in trouble if you don't send anything! Also, this event is currently in its eighth year (yes, if this thing were a person, it'd be in third grade already), so it's as almost-official as it gets, kiddies. Don't make me use this. *points to tinsel-decorated red-and-green Bat of Semi-Rule Enforcement*

7. Please try to find your Giftee a NICE gift. I know not everyone has the same resources and not everyone can purchase a whole bunch of dazzling customs for all their friends. However, around this time of year, the mods do open up numerous "gift shops" specifically to help people find gifts! Seasonal Specialties giftboxes are usually appreciated, and last year we had a "gift custom" shop. Try to keep your wishlist updated with a few easier-to-find things for the benefit of those people who can't afford mega-customs. Remember that it's ultimately the thought that counts!

8. ABSOLUTELY NO WHINING. None. No whining about the gift you got, no whining about how the person you have to gift to is not your favorite person in the world, and definitely no giving bum gifts because you don't like your Giftee! Whining results in an immediate permanent ban from ALL Secret Santas, this and any future SS's. If you feel that you have something to complain about--if you feel like your gift had no real thought put into it, or if your Secret Santa has been late (and you didn't receive a PM telling you about it from me)--then I ask that you please PM me discreetly instead of raising hullabaloo about it in the forums. We can then discuss it and decide what to do about it, depending on the nature of your problem. So far, we haven't had any real problems since Freezie first implemented the "no whining" rule officially, but I am prepared should the need arise!  

9. Now, those pesky little penguins are trying to hijack Christmas again. If you read the rules, please include the word "penguin" in your post to let them know that we're watching them! I can't add anyone to the event that doesn't care about Christmas getting stolen!

I absolutely love this event!  It always puts me in the Christmas spirit, just like Christmas movies.  Last year I thought a good winter-y movie would be March of the Penguins, though it turned out to be very un-Christmasy. D:

Ah, Christmastime. Makes me think of that penguin doc I watched a little while ago. Thankfully it's not as frigid where I live.
