Evelon D&D?

Postby Azura Rayume » 04/13/2015 3:22 PM

This is something that came up in the IRC a couple days ago, and I was wondering if maybe people would be interested in it? I can set up an introductory campaign or two if people are interested. There are a couple things people would need to play, though:

- Roll20.net account - completely free; allows for interactive maps, live rolling, and chat system (either type or mic will work)
- Myth-Weavers account - wonderful online character sheet site; also free
- A set time to "meet" with me online and make up character sheets/background plot things - this can take a while, be warned

There are pretty much two versions of D&D that would be super great for this: 2nd edition and 5th edition. I have everything I would need for both of them. It would really be up to you guys' what version we would be using.

2nd ed:
- This is what I have been playing recently, so I'm pretty used to it by now.
- Old but good, 2e was a great improvement on the first-ever things.
- It DOES need a little modification (mostly AC because THAC0 is terrible)
- The entire rulebook/monster manual is available online through purpleworm.com/rules

5th ed:
- Brand spankin' new - for anyone with a frame of reference, it's like 3e and 4e had a kid, and their child is beautiful
- Relies more heavily on character backgrounds for things and lends itself well to roleplaying
- Pretty easy to understand from what I've seen of it
- I haven't done a lot with it (just got the books online today), but I think I can manage it.
- All the books are .pdfs, so I would have to e-mail the book to you

If you wanna play, say below.
If you wanna play, vote on an edition in the poll.
If you wanna play, let me know if there's some kind of genre/style you'd like to play.

(Caps warning)

I AM SO DOWN FOR THIS YOU HAVE NO IDEA.  Doesn't matter what campaign setting.  I got characters.  Ohhh, yes, I got characters.
Maybe I'm foolish, maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this to see what's behind
Got no way to prove it, so maybe I'm lying
Take a look in the mirror, what do you see
Can you see it clearer, or are you deceived in what you believe?
Don't ask my opinion, don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness for making you cry
'cause I'm no prophet or Messiah
You should go looking somewhere higher

I'm only human, I make mistakes
I'm only human, I do what I can
I'm only human, that's all it takes to put the blame on me

Don't put the blame on me

Yes yes yes. Yes? Yes, please. I really would love to play with some roleplayers I know I adore!

I chose 5th ed., although I'm curious: no love for 3.5e or Pathfinder?

Yaaaassss

2e and 5e are the ones I know I can find resources for online and have easy access to already. ; 3; I started with 4e, and while it's really easy to learn on and I have a lot of stuff for it, 4e is horrid to DM. 5e's a really great improvement on it, though. I honestly just haven't been able to find much (especially on DMing) for either 3.5 or Pathfinder online (for free anyway).

I've never had the pleasure of playing DnD before, so I'd be very happy to try :'D I generally like writing in the fantasy genre, so I think I'm covered pretty well, haha.

It's probably not easy to find; I know for Pathfinder, I've bought most of my materials. Not complaining or anything, just curious. =)

I've heard some good things about 5th ed., I'd look forward to trying it out.

I'm always down for some D&D. Obviously I'd be up for Evelon D&D mostly, but if the genre chosen is at least one I know of that works as well.

Alrighty. I know Crow is also interested in playing but probably can't start until after exams (which is totally fine, you pass those classes). That gives us five people + DM, which is more than enough to get at least a session together. Also, all the votes are for either 5e or anything, so I'm guessing that's what we'll be going with. I already gave Spring the 5e Player Handbook, but everyone is gonna need it. I can send it out through either FaceBook or e-mail; just let me know which works better for you and give me the contact info either here or through PM.

Once everyone has the book and a character worked out, we can figure out when to start.

Well, as for my availability, I'm on Mountain Time (so... 2 hours behind, Evelon, I believe), and I'm typically around till as late as midnight my time, depending on the day unless something comes up.

As for setting... I don't mind what we do. :'D I've got characters that can fit into any particular setting; just need to translate them into D&D terms.  Like picking classes and whatnot for them.

I thought I had posted here but then it turned out I...hadn't. But anyway I am also down for this if that wouldn't be too many people. [I also already have the 5e books, conveniently.]

Kitsumi and I have been wanting to play D&D for a long time. Is there any more room for us to join?

Sent you my email~ Feel free to dump any books on me. As for availability, I'm usually only online a lot during Wednesdays and Sundays, but I can always reorganize my schedule a bit if need be. On the weekdays though, I do work until 6 pm CST (7 pm EST/Evelon time). That part's not particularly flexible, but everything else is.

I'm interested, perhaps more as backup.

'Cause I belong in your arms
I belong in your arms

Okay. ; D; Lemme see this....

First campaign: a lovely scholar named Elnan has a few tasks for you to do to help him with his research into Paragon.
Current Party:
- SpringsSong (working on character sheet now)
- Ander
- Kyrit
- Thunder
- Crow

Possibly second campaign: ???
Current Party:
- IndigoBook
- Kitsumi Mahon
- JEDi Slayer
- GrayGriffin(?)

If anyone with a bit of D&D experience or who otherwise thinks they're up for the challenge wants to DM the second group, by all means, go ahead. You can set up everything you want, how you want. I just don't particularly want to try and run a group of more than 5-6 people simply because it can get super crazy with that many.

That sounds like a brilliant idea. I don't have any experience with DM-ing, and I'm pretty sure Kitsumi doesn't either. Do either of you (IndigoBook or GreyGriffin) have any experience?

EDIT: If you don't wish to DM, I'd be up to learning how to.
