I am really stunned over this year's Halloween pets! They are all absolutely lovely and it was really difficult for me to decide which I wanted to pick up. For me, every year there was definitely a pet that I liked more/less than the others. Don't get me wrong the pets have always been pretty and interesting, but I feel like y'all really did a stellar job this year. The tribal/poison pets I feel were a great addition, and my absolute favorite nonbreedable pet type are the pot o'whatevers. I also greatly enjoy reading the little blurbs that each pet gets. I'm incredibly excited to see the puzzle pets too! This year I actually participated in putting the puzzles together lol so I hope I got at least one of them correct .

I also really like this year's pets. :3 The one that surprised me most of all was the tou-san. Now that the "diety" pets have been bumped down to regular pets, I'm excited to see them used more often. The tribal slynx is my all time fave this year; I mean look at it. What's not to love? Lol Super excited to see what the poison larvie is going to evolve into as well.

I think my two favorites this year have to be the Mantella Baal Dragony and the Orb 'O Prayers (even though I didn't get the second one). The Mantella is gorgeous and somehow wound up being the same colors as my 'sona, which was an amazing surprise for me, and I could not stop laughing at the Orb and singing the DBZ opening for a couple hours.

The Crowbones, Labradorite Hunter, and Antivirus Mekka all have really great effects going on, and they're just straight-up pleasing to the eye. I like that the Antivirus is color flipped from the Malware, too; it's another thing people can pull for character ideas if they have both of them. I'm excited to see the Larvie grow, too, since Floranas are really pretty. The Tribal Slynx is really pretty, too, and I honestly wanna draw them with the skull face, it's so great.

The Hollowheart, Grondalith, and Tou-san didn't really strike me for character ideas, unfortunately, but they're all still really good. They might not be my cup of tea, but I'm sure someone's gonna do something awesome with them.

Ohmygosh okay. I'm the worst at references so I just stared at that pet going 'is that from DBZ?' That's amazing though, it's such a clever pet design.

I think this year's pretty good! We've got some good edits and some really pretty designs on this year's pets. I'm a big fan of blues and purples, so the abundance of those here makes me really happy. Like others have said, the Tou-san was a huge and wonderful surprise! Seeing the dieties become normal is awesome, especially since many of them have such nice designs.

Not as big a fan of the Orb o' Prayers, but that's just mostly it being a cosplay pet. The art on it is really nice.

I'm also really excited to see what the Larvie evolves into!

Overall, I'm really glad to see that the Halloween pets this year were a bunch of "different" pets. I mean, we did get a Hunter and a Slynx, but seeing species like the Dragony, Tou-san, and the Pots represented was really nice! Species that tend to get a lot of variations released, well, I tend to run low on character ideas for them, but a lot of these feel really fresh. I dig it!

I am not a fan of pets that are based on things I can identify unless it's a custom I designed for me~ But that's me and my preference and I know people really like that. Besides, Halloween is all about dressing up, so I can't be totally bummed out about there being a pet based on something else. In the end it was one pet I didn't need to worry about getting for myself.

I really liked most of the designs, which was awesome, and there was SUCH a variety that I wasn't bummed that not all of them were to my taste! It's clear from the thread that everyone have different likes and dislikes, so being varied seems to have really worked out well.

I think of all the designs the hollowheart and tou-san had the "weakest" designs, the hollowheart for me was simple but like... He was a stitched together guy but his colours didn't scream patch work which didn't totally fit his background. The tou-san was a bit lacking in its markings for myself, but again this is a taste/preference call. I love hollowhearts and the tou-san as pets, but for me these two were not worth shelling out the points (well I did for the stitched but I am giving them to Baal).

I was surprised to see the Baal Dragony so cheap on the list, considering it's a war pet design, has a black base with bright colours, and is generally more flexible in the sort of character you can assign it. Those three aspects (rare pet, overall well loved and used colour scheme, flexibility of character use) would make the Baal Dragony the ideal pet. I was glad to see it so cheap, but surprised it was priced that way compared to the larvie (not a commonly RPed species due to being a bug, they get so little love!).

That's my opinion on that in general~ I was very pleased with this year though~ Can't wait to see the riddle pets!

I'm really happy with the Halloween pets this year! They're all very nice and I like almost all of them, even if I'm not really in love with any of them. I'm happy that they have some themes that aren't just traditional Halloween stuff, which I tend not to care for.

The Mantella Baal Dragony was a great surprise. I normally don't think twice about Baal Dragonys (Dragonies?), but FROG. This is one of my favorite sorts of frog, so I was super happy and excited about that.

I know that some people are put off by "cosplay pets" but I honestly don't have that problem at all with this one. I wouldn't have even really recognized it without the description. A smoke dragon is cool regardless of whether or not it has the colors of a famous dragon. (I actually like cosplay pets as long as they're not too forced, and I think this is a good example of one.)

I like the Tou-san. Nice to see an old diety return, and his description is super cute. Plus, space stuff is always good. The Stitched Hollowheart is good for a more classic Halloween look, and it's definitely kinda creepy. I'm excited to see how the Larvie grows up. It's so cute, and also reminds me a bit of frogs. I'm a bit surprised that the Crowbones is piebald, since I would have expected it to be entirely shimmery black like a crow. Though that's not a bad thing, just interesting. That Slynx loans itself so well to a variety of character ideas and is very well done with the details. I don't really care for Hunters or Mekkayena too much as a whole, but they're colored nicely enough.

It seems like everyone has different favorites out of this set, which is really great. That really speaks to how varied and creative they are.

Concerning the "cosplay" pet this year. Its still really vague. If the description was removed it would look like an ordinary Asian pot-o that was coming out of a dragon pearl with is a popular thing for the eastern dragons. In reality the DBZ dragon is just an Asian dragon and probably in its self is likely based on a legend in some manner.
Makes me glad folks read the descriptions still though.

The larvie has a reason for being more expensive just have to wait till it evolves plus its edited.

If the hallowheart file was not so tiny it probably would have been easier to make spiffy.

Was there ever any talk of giving the Hollowhearts an art makeover like the other place? You mentioning them being tiny/hard to edit makes me wonder.

I didn't read the dragons description I knew right away who it was, and I don't watch DBZ so~ it was a very good likeness. XD

And that's the other thing with hollowheart pets, small and old file, so there's not a whole lot to be done with it. Which is fine, these are the weaknesses I spotted and saw for me. Hollowhearts need a revamp (they are my favorite babies and what brought me to the site!) and so there's only so much you can do, but yeah they were a weak pet. Maybe try not to use pets that need a revamped file desperately until they are revamped? I dunno, just an idea.

Speaking of descriptions, there's a small error in the Hunter's and Grodnalith's. It says [name] which I'm guessing was a placeholder until they got official names. Just thought I'd point that out.

Ah XD Still I chose the DBZ dragon for the reason of being relatively ordinary in comparison of actually picking something with a character it was probably a bit much. I am aware though that a good amount of folks do not like the cosplay pets so I will try to pick something not so obvious if I can help it if I am the one making it. I would appreciate it if there are any suggestions for next year that would fall under this since there are problems with the cosplay pets. c:

No there was no talk about the Hallowhearts. They just are a pet that is well liked but I just don't like their file even though I went and reshaded it because the old shading just made it even harder to work with.
They were also a weak point for me and I hope to make them look amazing if the file ever gets revamped. I had some nice ideas around them and how to do it.

Buuuuugs! I actually caught on to the bug theme from the antennae/horn in the puzzles, how about you guys?

The Torken has such a gorgeous color scheme! I don't really care for Torken as a whole, but it definitely caught my attention. (Name suggests it's based on jewel bugs.)

The "motha" Pichu is adooorable. It looks so soft! The little eyespots on the hip are a really nice touch. (Giant silk moth?)

Oh man I love Morloths, but I'm not too keen on their common color scheme. I am most excited about this guy. He kinda reminds me of a pied bat! I like his tail stripes. Yay bat-bee! (Blue banded bee?)
