Nintendo Direct's Announcement

While I was expecting Pokemon Go to come out for the anniversary, this is still pretty dang cool. I always love new Pokemon games, and I really like this one's motif for sure. ovo I had been seeing it floating around tumblr for a day or two but no one knew if it was real, until today.

Also, Gamestop is having a big sale on all of it's Pokemon merch tomorrow the 27th! So that's also a really cool thing. I'm still crossing my fingers for a Pokemon Go release soon, but this news is really radical on its own. Anyone else excited? xD

It'll definitely be interesting to see what kind of Pokemon we'll be seeing in this generation.  A couple of my friends and I are holding out for some sort of Poison-typed legendary, since it's the only type that doesn't have a dedicated legendary Pokemon (since... Arceus can be any type after all), and I definitely hope to see some more Fairy-typed Pokemon.

As long as they continue to break from their trend of Fire/Fighting for the final evo of the fire-type starter, I'll be happy there too.

Ahhh a poison-type legendary would be awesome. I'm also always ready for more Eeveelutions; honestly I'd love it if there was one for every type! xD

And idk, I actually love the fire/fighting combination simply because of the nice special attack / physical attack balance. But it definitely is cooler to have other type combos than just have the same thing every time. Still. Blaziken. /gazes longingly at sky uppercut + fire blast

Man I'm not usually one to get all wrapped up in nostalgia, but that video of everyone playing Pokémon through the generations genuinely made me cry a little.

I have no idea what I want to see in the new games. Oh wait! I do want to see the return of Pokémon following you, like in HG/SS. Other than that, I'm pretty much down for anything.

Aw, what?! A sale?! I just bought a masterball there yesterday. Dang it. I might pop by the one in our town and see what all is on sale.

but also, super excited for Sun and Moon, as are many of my "adult" friends (Who are we kidding? We're not adults). Just in time for me to be all the more excited about doing a mega venusaur cosplay, whatwhat! I can't wait to see what we get for Gen 7~ I hope some more canine, equine, maybe bovine Pokemon. Hopefully none modeled after garbage. Or a spoon. Or something weird, like the others. "This is forkmon, mega evolves to sporkmon, and he can spork his enemies."

Also, where do you think this one will be based? I'm hearing China based, or Mediterranean, but some people are hoping for Germany or Italy.

I'm super excited about the announcement even if it isn't PokemonGo. ....My boyfriend and I bought brand new smart phones to play the game. And Fallout Shelter. But mostly Pokemon.

Poison type legendary would be awesome! It's always been my favorite, with Nidoking being my favorite pokemon in general. I'd like to see some older pokemon get more mega evolutions too, maybe even some that aren't as well-liked. Bringing baby pokemon back too would be great. There haven't been any new ones in a while.

Does anyone here have a new 3DS? With the amiibo support? We've been waffling trading in ours for new systems, but just don't know if it's worth it. I'd basically have to buy one of them, transfer our game data to it, then buy another to do the same. Since their stores don't have wifi I can't do the system transfer there at the store, and wouldn't get the trade-in bonus being offered for the system.

Admittedly, I would be way more stoked about Sun and Moon if I actually managed to entirely finish any of my Pokemon games since I bought Pearl. I've bought one copy from every Pokemon release (except for X2 and Y2, since I hadn't even beat my copy of Y), so... I have a lot of hours to sink into Pokemon games already. And, honestly, finding the time to do so, especially now, isn't an easy task.

Still, today, I went out to both GameStop and Toys R Us for their sale and event.

After encouraging my husband to get one, we picked up the new 3DS that came with the Red and Blue Pokemon games already installed. So he finally, FINALLY has his own 3DS system, instead of having to borrow mine, which means we can now actually trade our Pokemon to each other easily. (I've bought him opposing Pokemon versions from the Black and White and X and Y releases when they were released, so yay, he has lots of stuff to do.) With him finally playing, too, I'm sure I'll be really absorbed back into Pokemon. So, needless to say, I'll probably end up with one version or the other. xD;

From GameStop, we just bought my son a master ball plush and a code for Pokemon Yellow for me. As the one out of the three GameStops within a 10-15 minute drive of us that we actually went to is the most popular, all other plushes, aside from Pikachu and a couple great balls, were sold out by the time we got there. And my son already has a great ball and a Pikachu plush. (We first went to pick up my husband's DS from Toys R Us since he bought it online for in store pick up and we wanted to make sure they absolutely didn't sell it off anyway.) They gave us a Pokemon poster with our purchase which will soon be hanging in my son's room, too~

Then we went back to Toys R Us, since their event started at noon, and picked up the Pokemon cards and posters they were giving out. We ended up with three sets, one for each of us. I'll be hanging onto my son's Pokemon cards and giving them to him when he's actually old enough to handle them without just ripping them. I expect that with two nerdy, gamer parents, he'll be equally as nerdy. (Or at least I hope so. xD)


And, Cita, though I am not entirely sure about this myself, my husband says there aren't really any games exclusively made for the new 3DS (maybe one or two?), so he doesn't feel it's worth trading in your current systems and having to fork out a good chunk of change to compensate price differences. I have the extra amiibo reader which works just fine with my 3DS XL, so if your only interest in it is the amiibo support, I'd just pick up the separate reader, if you don't already have one.

I'm honestly hoping this region is England. The palace in the concept art looked sort of like Buckingham (of course, I thought Kalos was gonna be England until it definitely became France). I really want a Queen Elizabeth trainer/Champion with six little corgi Pokemon, okay? England gives an excuse to drag in all sorts of references for Fairy types, too. Werewolves, pixies, leprechauns, ah. Yes. Gimme all this.

I can second in the fire starter thing. Fire/anything-not-fighting is good with me. I'm also holding out hope for a grass/flying bird starter to finish out that evolution tree thing they've got going on the grass starters.

Toxic - Yeah, I know. That's my biggest hangup, is there are so few exclusives. We'd like to find one of the external amiibo readers for his smash brother's game, so we may end up doing that. I'm just going to be upset if there does happen to be more exclusive games and they stop doing the trade-in bonus. :/ I have a lot of money invested in the games on my 3DS, and I think it's kind of crap that you can't transfer them/tie them to an account easily.

As far as the whole fusion thing - I don't know how I feel about it. I'd much rather have more mega evolutions than the fusion. I haven't read much of the comics lately but it just doesn't interest me. Once Digimon started doing that it all went downhill for me, so I'm worried about that too.

Regardless of the weirdness of fusion, the potential for a new game mechanic is pretty amazing. With Pokken Tournament coming out soon, a pokemon fighting game, I wouldn't doubt if this could have a more fighting game-y mechanic that comes with the fusion. Like, instead of just making them stronger like a Mega Evolution, it actually comes down to skill and speed rather than turn-based fighting? I dunno. That's pretty radical but I'd be all for it.

In all seriousness, I have no idea what to expect, though I'm 99.9% certain we're going to get Mega Lunatone and Solrock. A Poison legendary would be cool, though I'm not sure how they'd incorporate it into the Sun/Moon theme.

I was joking with my friend that the evil team is probably, like, plotting to crash the Earth into the sun/moon, or planning to use a legendary Pokemon to harness the power of the sun/moon. I also said they'd wear space suits, and that the admins would be named after planets....but then I realized that's just Team Galactic xDDD;

@ Cita: Personally, I highly doubt that they'll make many New 3DS exclusives. That would be apretty bad sales strategy for Nintendo, and I remember back in the day there was talk about the DSi potentially having exclusive games, but that didn't really happen at all. So I'd say just go for the Amiibo reader.

Going off of what Thunder said a little, I will be super bummed if Lunatone and Solrock don't feature into these games in some way! They're some of the few Pokemon we have literally based off of the sun and moon. It would be such a huge drop of the ball for Nintendo to forget about them.

The potential fusion hint is pretty cool...and a little frightening? While I was definitely against it when Digimon went that way, over time I've actually come to appreciate some of the story elements behind the whole humans-becoming-Digimon thing. And the burst hearts have led to some really cool moments in the manga. I just...don't know how they would work that into the games mechanically. I was also hoping mega-evolutions would get a little more time in the spotlight before more new elements were introduced.

Still, the thought of new worlds to explore isn't a bad one. I can't wait for hints about the new landmass - if there's going to be one - because I got an England vibe from it too and love the possibilities! Truth, though, if they bring out another Fire/Fighting starter, I'm done. Just. Nope. Not again, Nintendo. There are so many other types, curse you, don't do it again.

So, I tried looking up some info on X2/Y2, and just found rumors. Toxie, you sound like they've been released? o3o;

I am so excited for new Eeveelutions as well! Since Sylveon has become the star of my team, I'd like to see what else they come up with.

The Pokemon Direct video said something about bringing it all together, so I'm hoping we get a pokemon following us, trainer customization, mega evolution, skates, riding pokemon, and flying on pokemon like in ORAS (even though I'm not that far in those games to know how that actually works) and everything else from other games that made them so exciting. Though I imagine that game file would be HUGE so thus impossible.

While the fire/fighting starter never really bugged me, I hope they bring in a new combo just for the extra hype.

As for the burst heart, I don't read the manga so this is news to me. o3o Not sure how I feel about it, but like most new things it's a 50/50 chance of either being totally awesome or really stupid. :/ Or just useless like the hideouts in ORAS. (Seriously, what's the point? I haven't gotten that far so it just sounds dumb right now.)
