Favorite Scents?

Postby Middy » 07/31/2016 7:21 PM

Hey, since I have been building my soap/bath salt/lotion/candle/bath bomb and etc. making stock, I was curious to know everyone's favorite smells! I want to get a better idea before opening my Etsy shop hopefully in the fall.

I am planning on making specialty goods that are both beneficial to the skin, as well as combining good smells and aromatherapy. I might even go into sugar scrubs and lip balms as well. Even soap that looks like precious gems.

I know my favorite scents, so, what is everyone elses? This is mostly out of curiosity, and is more of a way to gather ideas than to advertise.

Pst-- Mine is lilac, musk, rose, lily of the valley, pine, and sandalwood.

My two very favorite smells are freshly baked tortillas and coffee. I also really like the smell of lavender, thyme and rosemary. I'm not entirely sure how anyone could get the smell of freshly baked tortillas into a candle or something though haha.

Coffee is also a favorite of mine. Lavender is wonderful as long as it's not paired with another flower or vanilla, I prefer it on its own. I also really like Eucalyptus, especially paired with lemongrass. For more 'artificial/combo' scents I like most of the blue/teal candles. 'After the Rain' and all that jazz. Calming, slightly soapy scents.

Orange is another one I like, maybe paired with cardamom or nutmeg, something spicy.

Bath bombs are awesome. Working two jobs I am on my feet 12+ hours a day so it's really nice to soak in an epsom salt bath once in a while.

I love vanilla-y smells--really smooth--as well as sharp, cooling scents like mint, eucalyptus, and pine. Fruity scents are pretty good too--I really love coconut--but I can be pretty iffy on most flowery scents except lavender. Lavender's awesome, though.

I'm so cool (too bad I'm a loser).
I'm so smart (too bad I can't get anything figured out)!
I'm so brave (too bad I'm a baby).
I'm so fly
That's probably why it feels just like I'm falling for the first time!

I'm so green (it's really amazing).
I'm so clean (too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me)!
I'm so sane (It's driving me crazy)!
It's so strange
I can't believe I'm falling for the first time!

Very cool idea!

Hm...
I really like the scent of Grapefruit or other Sour, slightly bitter things (not too sweet)'
Rosemary, Lavender and Cofee are also favourites of mine.

If done well, Perfumes with a heavy note like red wine can be very nice too in my opinion.

Cardamom, sometimes cinnamon (again, not too sweet!) and very naturey stuff like...pines,
moss, earthy smells. I can remember a shower gel by Lush(?) I think that smelled like you rolled around in grass and then walked through a forest. it was amazing :D
Cannot say, I'm breaking the rules
If I can glue em back together.

Lavender and lilac are two of my favorite scents.  And then, around Christmastime, I also love the smell of cookies (I actually still have some leftover scented wax for my wax warmer in "Christmas Cookie" scent, which I loved when I was pregnant with Kathy).

Since moving down to Texas, I've also found that I love the smell of our meat smoker when it's going.  Reminds me of going camping and being around a campfire, which we haven't been able to do since my mom ruptured her Achilles or since my dad's accident.
Maybe I'm foolish, maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this to see what's behind
Got no way to prove it, so maybe I'm lying
Take a look in the mirror, what do you see
Can you see it clearer, or are you deceived in what you believe?
Don't ask my opinion, don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness for making you cry
'cause I'm no prophet or Messiah
You should go looking somewhere higher

I'm only human, I make mistakes
I'm only human, I do what I can
I'm only human, that's all it takes to put the blame on me

Don't put the blame on me

Weirdly enough I had this conversation with someone the other day!

My favorites are violet, cedar wood, mint, elderflower, amaretto, orange blossom, Nag Champa incense, green/earthy smells, coffee, cumin, cinnamon, and old books.
Also lavender is pretty good.

We’re all hysterical & going nowhere together.

C’mon rapture. Let’s go bedazzling.

I really love lavender, peppermint, and lemon! Plus if you mix these three oils they make a natural antihistamine! I use them a lot. ovob

And love will not break your heart
But dismiss your fears

And flowers in your hair

My all time favorite scent is peppermint, and I find it very soothing. It's the very best for me. Although I actually have a lot of trouble finding peppermint products that are actually scented like peppermint, not just mint with false labeling. I don't care all that much for plain mint.

Other scents I usually like are cinnamon (and Snickerdoodle, so cinnamon and sugar), hazelnut, coconut, and rose. Vanilla is often nice, too.

I don't typically like most floral scents.

While not my own, one of my mother's favorite scents is fresh pine. She LOVES the scent in the house right after she puts up the Christmas tree, and usually purchases pine scented things.

I've gathered that quite a lot like coffee, mint, lavender, vanilla, and sweet baked smells. Thankfully I do have lavender as an essential oil, and it's quite pure. Use it for burns actually! This has been helping a lot on deciding what I should order next.

I think once I get paid again (and might be soon if I am put on SSI) then I will be grabbing some of these. Fragrance oils aren't too expensive, it's the essential oils that benefit the skin that can be pricey haha. Sandalwood can get up to 80$ for an essential.

Once I get my new stuff, I will make sure to make some notes. At the moment, I will be messing with an acne soap for those who want benefits, but hate tea tree oil smell. I know I can't stand it x_x

Acne help you say? I'd be interested. I have naturally very oily skin, and it's hard to find something that doesn't dry me out so much it makes it even worse.

I actually really dislike very sweet/food scents. I think that comes with working in a kitchen all day though? I come home smelling like maple toast most nights and I don't want to smell like that. XP

I know that your main marketing won't be towards chefs/guys anyway though. I wanted to weigh in with something my mom told me today though; that everyone in her office loves vanilla bean. Especially the 'vanilla bean noel' stuff that Bath and Body puts out at Christmas. I figured that's a pretty big group of people (30+) to agree on a scent. To me it just smells like a very sweet vanilla.
