Drop by and say hi!  Go to the net client page and see if anyone is in the IRC chat channel (give it a second to load before you panic that it isn't working).  I usually keep a window open there, so I'll always be there (at least, I'll try).

If that link above isn't working, try this one. Give it a minute, it's slow sometimes. If it's been an inordinate amount of time and it's still not working, type "/server irc.slashnet.org", press enter and wait for it to connect, then type "/join #evelon" and press enter.

For those of you with your own IRC client, the server is irc.slashnet.org and the channel is #evelon.  See you there!

I have heard from several people that have had trouble getting the IRC chat to work.  Which is a shame, once you see how fun it is. :D  

There are  a couple reasons you might be having problems:

1) You don't have Java enabled.  

Java is a scripting language, used to make interactive content for the internet.  Not having it enabled or installed means you're going to miss out on some things, like this chat ;).  For whatever reason, you might not have Java enabled in your browser.  To enable Java in Internet Explorer:

  1. Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options"
  2. Select the Advanced Tab, and scroll down to "Java (Sun)"
  3. Check the box next to the "Use Java 2" version
  4. Next, select the Security Tab, and select the "Custom Level" button
  5. Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets"
  6. Make sure the "Enable" radio button is checked.
  7. Click OK to save your preference.

2) If, when you get to step two above and don't see "Java (Sun)" listed, you probably don't have the Java Runtime installed on your computer.  You  will need to go to the Sun Java Download Page and download it.  Don't fret about getting a virus from it - Sun is an old and respected company.  Just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong!  Sorry dial-up users, but it might take a while for you.  Once you have it installed the IRC client should work.

In Trillian, do I still put irc.slashnet.org::6667 under the name box in Manage Connections? 'Cause I connect and open the Status Window, and usually it'll say, /identify nickserve password, but now it'll just change my nickname right away and say I'm not registered.

Umm... well, it's "irc.slashnet.org:6667" (you had two colons in there).  And umm...Try "/nickserv identify password" instead.

Well first of all you're "Sunny_", and identifying to Nickserv with that nick won't work, you have to be the nick you registered under.  If "/nickserv" doesn't work, try "/msg nickserv identify password".  That's all I can think of..

It doesn't work on this computer without installing Java because I have a Linux- operated system. I would ask my grandpa to install Java, but he's going to be gone for several months.. :/

On Linux, you could try the program Xchat.  It's a standalone IRC client that doesn't need to run in your browser.

Where do I find it? Sorry, I don't know so much about computers. Even though pretty much everyone else in my family does. xD Oh, and it does it involve having to have administrative acceptance to install, or something? Because that requires my grandpa to log in on this computer and install it.
