Dr. Kerner had a relatively normal childhood, being raised by a blue-collar working father and a mother in nursing. Due to their job schedules, their daughter was often left alone in the house to entertain herself, and she did so most often by exploring their front yard for creepy-crawlies of all kinds. She secretly collected millipedes, wood lice, and caterpillars over the years, feeding them bits of leftover vegetables from mostly-unsupervised dinners and releasing them back into the wilds. On more than a few occasions, she brought her "friends" to school, having to protect them from the more squeamish children (and taking the opportunity to teach those who weren't afraid). Although her hobbies started out as a way to escape the boredom of being stuck at home without much else to do, she holds nothing but positive memories of her childhood, as they became her lifetime interest, eventually leading her towards a career in teaching entomology.

Sometimes, things are what they are.

You grow up in a house with a white picket fence and 2.5 children; your siblings and you always argued over which kid was the .5 of the family. Your dad was a smart kid from the slums who studied his way, night and day, into medical school, and then - well, he would've thrown it all away to marry his childhood sweetheart if he'd had to, but things are far less dramatic in real life than they are in fiction.

He didn't really approve when you told him you wanted to be a novelist when you grew up. Look, kid, he'd say. That's a good skill and a good hobby, but writing fiction isn't going to pay the bills.

He was right, of course. A practical man - maybe, just maybe, he'd considered this when he was growing up; maybe he didn't even like medicine that much. You had two parents and a middle-class suburban existence; he had a single mother and debt collectors knocking at the door, and no other way out of poverty than working his way up.

So you listened, a little. You took your dreams of creative writing and turned them into a journalism degree, took on a job that paid steadily, writing human interest articles about twenty facts you'd never believe about rapid weight loss, and even if it killed you inside every time you wrote another clickbait title because your boss was breathing down your back about clicks-per-view and search engine optimization - well, so be it.

You'll still dream, of course. You always will.

Isaac

This darling had a relatively average childhood! His parents are separated but still on speaking terms, and they did their best by their son, making sure that he saw both of them regularly and avoided their disagreements when they arose. Though not wealthy by any means, his mother provided him with as much as she could, happy to go without to see her son happy. His father was more bent on giving him experiences rather than material gifts, and thus would take him on trips and teach him skills instead of relying on monetary value to keep him content. His childhood home was a fifth floor apartment, the long time residence of his mother. It was small, cramped at times (especially as he grew older and felt desire to have his own space), but sufficient for the two of them. When he reminisces about his time as a child, it is overall a fond experience that he enjoys.

Ayden Conway
Ayden struggled a lot in his childhood. He grew up in a small apartment with abusive, alcoholic parents and four unruly older brothers. He was often bullied by his brothers and became very quiet and reclusive, turning to books for comfort. Most of his time was spent in his “secret hideouts,” which were really any small area he could find to hide and read. He made it through school by flying under the radar socially, all the while excelling in his classes. His dream was to become a doctor and to help those who were struggling. Because his parents were neglectful, he and his brothers often didn’t receive proper medical care. On more than one occasion, he had to fix his own dislocated shoulder or bandage a brother’s wound. Although he only got along well with his brother Luke, who was closest to him in age, he still helped his older siblings when they needed him.

Otherwise known as John, was born to a small seafaring tribe of Chaos. His father was the captain and he grew up under his stern guidance with the intent that one day, he'd take over the tribe. His days were mostly filled with training, learning how to sail a ship and how to fight with both a gun and with a sword. However, at a young age, the Hierarchy found their tribe and butchered his family and friends one by one, and then destroyed all of their ships, stranding John in the middle of the ocean, clinging to flotsam until he was fished up by a pirate vessel. After that, John had to learn the hard way that it was kill or be killed, and for a while was a quiet, sullen boy who only obeyed his pirate masters if death or beatings were threatened. He had little time to learn things such as reading or writing and instead indulged in alcohol in his free time. Eventually, he mastered how to control his Chaos form and rebelled on his pirate masters, and in his teens, started banding together his own pirate crew, under his command.
