Deryck of Sea
and
Runeric Wayran

The pair met when Runeric moved with his sister from the massive port city of Atlas to the small, seaside town of Den Raven. After a rather flustered meeting in which Rune made a complete and total fool of himself (Deryck found the whole thing endearing, really) they began spending most of their free time together. They bounce off each other well, with Runeric being organized and pragmatic, while Deryck is very chaotic and flippant. Deryck's views sometimes clash with Rune's own, particularly in the area of religious devotion, but at the end of the day, they settle into each other perfectly.

The pair's relationship is not simple, though - Deryck is an immortal child of the sea, trapped in Den Raven for own misdoings, while Runeric, despite his draconic ancestry giving him a longer life, still ages as a mortal should. Despite this, they spend their days together happily, Runeric assisting Deryck in his smithy by doing the finer, more detailed metalwork to compliment Deryck's broader projects. They enjoy the days they have together in their little home together, at one point along with their overly large and fluffy dog, Princess Ruffles vonPrettypaws. (Blame Rune for that name. He also made the dog clothes. Deryck just wants to wrestle her.)

It's only when the two are parted, permanently by death's grip, that Deryck is deemed learned enough in his mistakes to return to the ocean's immortal court. He carries marks of Runeric the rest of his life, in photos and trinkets, a tattoo across his shoulders, and a place in his heart that will never be forgotten.

RIN JARF and HANRAEL UNDEL


To put it as simply as possible, Hanrael and Jarf are moirails. Yes, please excuse my horrible language for that.

To put it in detail, the two owe each other their lives at least three times over, especially Jarf owing Han. She has not only saved his life once, twice, but countless times whenever he's suicidal. She keeps him grounded, and he helps her make tough decisions when it comes to strategies and war. They are similar in demeanour, for different reasons: outwardly cold, quiet, and wary of others. But in reality, they could not care more about each other and the people who live with them more than they already do, it is physically impossible to love as much as they do.

They met each other when they were both on the same ship that got attacked by a pair of pirate ships under the same commodore. Jarf was critically wounded, and was going to be left to die, but Hanrael stepped in and convinced the commodore to spare him, on the notion that he was a medic and would prove useful. While the years in captivity were miserable, Jarf is grateful for what Hanrael did for him. And the second time she saved him, was when they overthrew the commodore's command in mutiny and took over the port city they'd since claimed. Once more, Jarf was critically wounded, and Hanrael stepped in, to keep him covered while he tended to his wounds in the middle of a blazing and gory battle.

Venna & Annabelle
These two have been married for a very long time. They originally united in order to take over a Hell plane and serve as royalty and government to the Demons within. They don't get along, and never have. As of now they treat each other with a cool respect but are more likely to manipulate each other than to work together. Annabelle is known throughout the Hell plane as the supreme ruler and is vastly feared. Because of her ruthlessness and power, she considered Venna as weak and sniveling. Venna is, in his own regard, just as ruthless and powerful as Annabelle, but his work is rarely executed by anything more than proxies.

They go behind each other’s backs constantly. Most of their children were born both out of wedlock and out of spite. Annabelle stays with Venna because he is still useful to her, and Venna does not oppose Annabelle because he would lose his kingdom in doing so.

Grayson, Noah

Noah and Grayson met in middle school. Noah was a shy, relatively sheltered kid and the only child of a middle class family. He did alright in school, but he didn't really have any friends because of how awkward and reticent he was. Grayson was outgoing and well-liked, and hung out with a bunch of different people. At first he mostly started talking to Noah out of pity when they ended up sitting next to each other in class, but after a while they became real friends. Noah was, at the end of the day, possibly more of a real friend to Grayson than most of his other ones, though that might have been because Grayson was the only friend Noah really had.

Well, and the growing crush that Noah was developing. That probably had something to do with it too.

Grayson was always sort of hard up when it came to money, and in high school it got worse. Noah kept offering to pay for things for him, but Grayson never took him up on it. In high school, Grayson started pursuing his goal of becoming a musician, which meant working even more part time than he already had to, and using all the rest of his spare time either playing gigs at some seedy bar or cafe, or hunting down the next venue that would have him. Noah tried to support Grayson as best he could, but at the time, it felt like Grayson was moving into a world where Noah couldn't follow--- the back alley hole in the wall places Grayson played at was so far from Noah's white picket fence life that he found himself too scared to go.

And then Grayson died. It was an accident, as far as anyone said. Noah's mother paid for the funeral, because Grayson's family didn't have the money for it, and Grayson wasn't around to say no anymore. The death essentially shattered Noah, and he stayed listless and depressed for weeks... before realizing that all his classmates have just moved on with their lives, like they'd forgotten that Grayson was ever there. Even his friends.

That made him angry enough that he went back and got all of Grayson's things, found his old songs... and decided that if no one was going to remember Grayson, he was going to make them remember. He was going to make Grayson's music famous. That way, his friend would be immortalized, even though he was gone.

Belias and Betrayal

They met when Betrayal, or Betty, was a pup. Left in a fetid cage, punished with every sound she made, Betty was silent. Belias, on the other hand, was an old mercenary, still risking his life on battlefields he had no place being on. Belias had been asked to come and help oversee an 'adoption' as the head always called them.

When he first saw Betty, Belias felt his heart break. He wanted to hold her close and let her scream to the sky. For the first week since they had met, Belias was a constant in Betty's life. He read the child bedtime stories, fed her, acted as a father. In time, Betty came out of her shell. She began to laugh more, complain of the pain in her shoulder from her thick scar more, became more of a child and less of a scared shell.

After Belias had retired, he has adopted Betty into his household and his immediate family. He acts as Betty's father in all things, while his wife, Zari, acts as her mother. Always ready to protect and defend her, to teach her and to make her laugh how only he can, Belias dotes on his daughter. Betty, too, dotes on her father, as much as an eight year old can. Making him small gifts, usually with the help of Zari or Binkie.

Often, if seen together, the two can be seen walking either hand in hand, or with Betty sitting on Belias' broad shoulders as she begins to fall asleep from a long day of going on playful adventures with her father.

Safi and Cussanke

Oh these dorks. Their relationship is pretty limited. Basically Cussanke was magically transported to Safi's house to get help for a friend, summoned Einsor's goons to her special little spot in the desert and...

Long story short: Safi helped murder Merge, which did not go down smooth for anyone. Safi still offers her aid to Cuss (and the gang he arrived with) but she's wary of him, seeing the way he acts. She sees him as a loose canon, thinking well after the actions are done. As a Chaos his destructive powers are non-standard and he barely seems to have control over it (she noticed the wear and tear on his books, and the plastic nature of his belongings). He enticed EINSOR, a man who had already messed up his boyfriend, to come and mess up not just him but his whole group plus strangers!

He was frustrating as hell, and she is glad that she never sees him in person anymore.

Cuss doesn't think much at all about Safi. He's not great with relationships, and she's a seraphim for crying out loud. But, that said, she is pretty nice to him. He likes that she doesn't try to kill him, or shoo him away, but instead does her best to help. Sure she's more than happy to see the back side of him, but he would like to think it's because she likes him. He know that's not the truth of the matter, by a long shot, but it makes him feel less... guilty? As far as he can tell that one ITTY-BITTY run in with Einsor's goons really spooked her, and she's been on the move ever since. Usually he contacts her for help, but every now and then he'll feel her reaching out and ask if she's a weakling.
"Hell no," he always says, "did you see what you did to Merge? I did, and so did Einsor. He'd better think twice before messing with you."

Cecil & Aella

These two are an interesting pair. Aella is a witch who owns a candy store and brews illegal potions as a side business - Cecil is a beastman/familiar who is friends with Aella's bonded familiar, Lonan. Lonan does not enjoy the fact that the two are very close and does his best to ward Cecil off, but it doesn't work. Cecil is a hitman for hire, like Lonan, and Aella knows nothing about their business; this is the only reason they manage to keep civil towards each other. Aella dotes on Cecil and believes that he can do no wrong. They spend a lot of time together when they are both free, and enjoy playing board games or going to cafes together. Cecil treats Aella with the utmost respect and would do anything for her, but is ridden with guilt because he is not honest with her about his work.

This is Kyoki and her 'daughter' Syra. Their relationship is a bit of an odd one. Kyoki is a fully fledged dragon, and Syra is 'just' a human. Kyoki doesn't make a habit of caring about anything but herself, but a young Syra caught her attention. She was only a child, barely old enough to utter some useful words. Kyoki isn't evil, and she wouldn't kill the kid herself, but what she did next surprised even her. She picked up the child and carried her home.

The dragon didn't know the first thing about raising non-dragon children. To be fair, she didn't really know anything about raising dragons, either. But she did what she could. She vowed to protect the child with every scale of her being, and boy did she need it. As it turns out, human children were very squishy and easily damaged.

Now that Syra is fully grown, she has great respect and love for her mother, but she is also easily annoyed by her. Kyoki, like many dragons before her, is quite selfish and can be unintentionally cold. Syra, having been raised among a single dragon instead of a group of her own kind, has odd social skills and difficulty regulating her emotions. The two often growl and shout at each other, but the love is always there. No matter how irritated one or the other is, they will never hesitate to be there when the other needs them.

"The Minstrel" (Seanan) and Horsefeathers

Minstrel, a gentle amnesiac musician armed with nothing but his lute, the clothes on his back, and his best friend Horsefeathers, is a strange one to pin down. He doesn't remember his own name (thankfully Horsefeathers came with a nametag on his halter), but he does remember how to play music, which Horsefeathers seems to follow even better than spoken commands. Horsefeathers is a Pelzettel, a kind of pack animal with poor eyesight, and Minstrel has known him since as far back as he can remember. Which isn't far, truth be told. The two are inseparable and Minstrel is deeply grateful for the animal's companionship, as well as his warm fur on icy Niverian nights.

In reality, though, before Minstrel lost his memory, the two were companions, and Minstrel--then Seanan--was a member of the jolly and powerful Ardenos clan. Small build for such towering folk, Seanan and his music were loved by many, and he often cared for the children of the village, both human and animal alike. Horsefeathers was one such animal--dubbed ornery and untrainable by the handlers. Seanan took a shine to the little one, and worked day and night with him to teach him commands via music. He named the creature Horsefeathers, and as thanks for taming him, the handlers gladly let Seanan become Horsefeathers' new owner.

Chi Squared and Gumiho have never met.

I mean, why would they? Is this some kind of parallel universe where talking to someone online is immediately bookended by running out and meeting them in person? If so, I know an awful lot of serial killers who'd like to arrange for a 'reincarnated in another world' plot twist.

But let us rephrase that - they have never met. They've certainly interacted - one of them plays squishy DPS mage and the other plays damage mitigation cleric, and years of MMORPG experience have made it clear that those two'd better be communicating if you don't want to explain to your clan leader that you form-wiped again because you didn't check if your support's shield was off cooldown before bursting the dungeon boss.

Of course, they talk about other things, too. Cosmetic items, mostly - Gumiho is living proof that the endgame of any multiplayer game is dress-up. Despite priding herself on being a veritable encyclopedia of game knowledge, Chi Squared often finds it easier to just consult Gumiho for data on obscure outfit drop rates and hidden miniquests.

Chi Mirzakhani and Vanessa Peters, on the other hand, have met.

It wasn't much of a meeting. I'd be surprised if Vanessa even remembered Chi's name - it was a quick meeting, a simple freshman seminar for undeclared students at the University of Barakka, Jawan. Professors were supposed to present and answer questions about their respective majors, but as Dr. Chloe Pascal had 'unexpectedly' called in 'ill' for perhaps the fifth consecutive year, the responsibility fell upon her head TA to show up and entertain clueless freshmen for an hour.

Chi certainly doesn't remember Vanessa. If pressed, she might remember one particularly quiet girl who came up after the seminar with a few questions on the coursework required for a math major; if pressed further, she might admit she'd brushed her off because 'Honestly, why didn't she ask during the awkward silence when I asked if anyone had any questions?' and 'Look, I signed up to do research, not student outreach.'

Nero and Arabex

Well, for starters, Nero and Arabex hate each others' guts. Mind you, as Nero is essentially a demigod, he doesn't like many living things, especially humans. He's constantly trying to destroy towns, cities, and whoever else he feels requires 'cleansing'.

The whole thing started when he accidentally destroyed Arabex's favourite napping place. He near about killed her, despite her being a storm spirit, but that wasn't enough to cause the sheer hatred that developed between the two.

No, that was because Arabex's half-mortal girlfriend tried to stop Nero from destroying a town.

Of course, he just considered her to be one of them and tried to kill her too. Threatening Arabex's life was one thing, threatening Piper's was another thing entirely. Poor Piper was doomed to helplessly watch the two of them get into such an intense battle that the town was destroyed anyway. Well, that might also have been the fault of Piper's mother, who found out what was going on.

The moral of the story is that you really don't want to tick off sea spirits or storm spirits, and you certainly don't want to start a war between them.
