These guys are just acting as placeholders for whenever I get around to getting real images for these characters, but you know. This is Lyall and Cooper. They're brothers, which normally suggests that the two of them would like each other, but that's... often not the case. Their father is out of the picture and their mother is pretty crazy so they've always been stuck with each other and their sister, Tucker, to get by. This has resulted in them being pretty dang dependent on each other, but their personalities tend to clash pretty badly because they're both strong-headed and quick to anger. Lyall, especially, is known for epic outbursts that often devolve in cursing out everyone in the room. Cooper is the more stable of the two, but Lyall knows how to push his buttons and drive him crazy. It's come the blows before, but they've been trying to get better about it for the sake of their sister. They're all very much aware they're all they have for each other, so they're usually stuck in an uneasy truce where Lyall will be a dick to everyone else but keep a lid on it around his siblings.

Aros and Kezarec

At one point in time, Aros and Kezarec were something like older brother and younger sister, although the two are not related by blood, whatsoever. Kezarec was the younger sister of Psyche, Aros' girlfriend of the past. While Kezarec was still a young teenager, her and Psyche's parents were almost entirely out of the picture, and the older sister was left to care for her younger sister on her own. As such, Aros, too, helped provide for the two. Kezarec was very fond of her "older brother," and Aros even doted on her a bit, seeing as she was his beloved's kid sister.

After a series of events, Psyche was lost to this world, causing both Aros and Kezarec great despair. Aros, out for revenge for what had happened to Psyche, left Kezarec entirely on her own. Some time later, the two met up again, as warped versions of theirselves that they once knew, as something of coworkers, as they both became lead members in the same mafia. Based on their current interactions, it's difficult how they feel about one another.

There is strict rule that members are not allowed to fight each other without serious repercussions from the boss, but Aros and Kezarec are something of an exception to the rule. They sometimes brawl, as if they are truly out for the others blood, and then, the next day, they're nursing any wounds, perhaps even helping the other bandage said wounds, and getting along perfectly well.

Aros no longer views Kezarec as his kid sister, nor does Kezarec view Aros as her older brother. If anything, at least she is a bit smitten with him, but doesn't necessarily feel all right with the idea of pursuing him, in light of her deceased sister's past relationship with him.

At some point, the two eventually DO end up together, and end up naming a daughter after Psyche.

Sticks was born in the mid 1800s, and grew up in a family that wasn't particularly well off. He wasn't particularly close to his parents, but they weren't terrible people. Simply not all that kind either. Sticks was born and grew up in Brazil, but moved to the US after he was fused with an otherworldly fae creature. Before that, he was a shy but trouble-making little prankster.

Being the only child that survived past infancy, his family's lineage and future depended on him. And while he promised as a child to eventually marry and become a father, he had no plans of following through with such whatsoever. So the longer he went without choosing a potential bride, the more stern his parents became.

Well past the time he would have been considered an adult by that age's standards, but barely done being a child by our own, Sticks encountered a dying alien fae that fused with him, pleading that he turn other humans into its kind to keep its race from dying out. Again, he made the promise but didn't plan on committing. It's a bit of a habit of his.

Kezarec

Grew up in the bad part of town, where street fights and drug busts were the norm, with absentee parents that couldn't care less. Young Kezarec had to fall sleep to the sound of gun shots and police and emergency vehicle sirens on a regular basis.

Her family's small, rental apartment was old and falling apart. There would be days when the electricity or water would be shut off. Her parents most certainly did not prepare food, but at least they tended to keep junk food and dry instant ramen in the house, usually for their own night time munchies, which she primarily lived off of. That, and fast food, on the very rare occasion they brought anything back for her and her sister.

The only person that really tried to protect and care for Kezarec was her older sister, Psyche, that had a few years on her. They grew up in the same situation, but Psyche did her best to make sure her little sister was fed, clothed (even if it was her own hand-me-downs), properly washed, and made it to school, where she was safer than staying at home or wandering the streets. Psyche took on the more adult role, with their parents' total lack of attention, and Kezarec adored her older sister, desperately clinging onto the only family member that cared.

Until she was gone.

Annabelle

Annabelle’s childhood was mostly normal. She had a mom, dad, and a little brother. They lived a modest life, and while they had a roof over their heads and food to eat in their house they rarely had money to travel or go to the different events that came through town.

When she was older – maybe a teenager, although she could have been younger – her family was slaughtered before her eyes and she was taken away. Rogue Demons were making their way through town and her family was caught in the random violent chaos. She never knew why she was spared, and never told. The remaining days of her childhood were spent training and manipulating and trying to survive among creatures she should have never known.

Before the end of her childhood, although she no longer saw herself as a child, she killed her captors in return. Using the infamy, she had built for them as a ticket to the Demon ranks. In those years of servitude and darkness Annabelle had spent her time carefully plotting her ascension to godhood.

Virtus Tialoc

Virtus grew up in a normal household. A loving mother and father, an antisocial older brother who thought that he was a little brat. But, the main difference was Virtus was living under a different name and presented as a girl. For most of their life, Virtus had been reffered to as 'Mom's little girl' and the like, and each time it sent a tremble of revulsion through him, for a reason he couldn't quite identify.

When he had his hair cut short one day, claiming it was for ease of management and because it was in style, his mother exclaimed that he looked like a boy, and Virtus found that he wanted that, and so he went out of his way to begin presenting more as male.

By the age of 16, Virtus had changed his name and began presenting fully as male in public, with his parents support and even support from his older brother, who while their father had been working away from home, had taught his younger brother how to shave and talk in deeper tones. By age 19, Virtus had moved out and into the world on his own, impatiently waiting for a referral to a gender therapy clinic in order to begin his medical transition.

Issanduin

By a dragon's standards, Issanduin had a pretty good start for her childhood. She was raised by a very doting mother that did what she could to teach and raise her right, and a protective father that did an excellent job of keeping everyone safe, she also had plenty of siblings that she could play with. It all would've been perfect, had it not been for one teeny tiny detail.

Which was that she had been born as a fire dragon, surrounded by a water element clan.

At first it wasn't super apparent that she had been different from the others, apart from her eyes giving off the only pretty good clue. Which was something she never even really thought about. So the only time the truth ever came up that her family wasn't her biological one, was when she had matured enough to accidentally set somebody on fire... (Don't worry, there was plenty of water available to douse them.)

She doesn't hate them for never telling her in the first place. But things never were quite the same after that. Her heart was just filled with so many questions. Almost none that could be answered completely by her family. It got to a point where she just had to leave, to find the answers to those questions.

Nam Ji-won

Ji-won was born to loving parents, a father who worked as a civil servant and a novelist mother who went into a semi-hiatus to focus on the raising of her son. They found out two years after Ji-won was born that his mother wouldn't be able to have any more children, so Ji-won became the beloved only child of the family.

Despite that, his parents did their best to raise him with good values, and for the most part Ji-won was a good kid. His mother in particular encouraged his self-expression, signing up for acting classes, among other things. Impressed with his talent, his teacher urged his mother to sign him up for casting calls for small parts in dramas. Ji-won was a natural, and after a few appearances, he began to become a known name in the industry--- after all, the pool of competent child actors was small, and plenty of dramas included childhood flashbacks and the like.

That was how he met Yoon Tae-oh, a fellow child actor two years his elder--- on set, filming a drama together. At first they were friends, with Tae-oh seeing Ji-won as a younger brother that he could take under his wing. However, as the years went on and they met on more projects, it became clear that Ji-won was the more talented actor, and had already surpassed Tae-oh, all without much apparent effort or trouble on his part. Tae-oh began to see him as a rival, and a goal to aspire to, all while Ji-won remained carefree and unaware of Tae-oh's changing attitude towards him.

However, as his career took off, his mother became more concerned about him. She began to turn down offers without his knowledge, wanting to shield him from the rigors of the entertainment industry while he was still so young. She wanted him to be able to go to school and live out a normal childhood while he was still a child, and said just as much to the CEO of the agency that had picked him up.

She didn't have much success. The CEO had other plans for Ji-won, and for those plans he needed control. He began to convince Ji-won, through subtle remarks and false evidence, that his mother was attempting to exploit him for money. At first, Ji-won was confused, not wanting to believe that his beloved mother would do something like that to him. But when he expressed interest in pursuing music, the CEO saw his chance--- his mother disapproved, while the CEO encouraged him to participate in idol training at their agency. After all, idols were much more heavily controlled by their management than actors, which was the perfect way for their company to sink their claws into Ji-won. His mother knew this, and opposed it as strongly as she could. Unfortunately, Ji-won only saw this as a betrayal on her part, barring him from pursuing his dream.

From there, Ji-won distanced himself more and more from his own family, relying increasingly on the CEO's guidance as a parental figure in their stead. As a trainee, he took on fewer jobs, but became busier than ever; and his residual fame from his child acting days distorted his relationships with his peers. It didn't take much for the company to isolate him, fostering his distrust not only in his family, but in everyone else.

By the time he was ready to debut, Ji-won was a far cry from the friendly, outgoing child he had been, having become an embittered, cynical youth who believed others would only approach him with ulterior motives. However, on the outside, he appeared friendly enough--- good PR was important, and he was an actor, after all.

Yana here was born as the only child to wealthy, powerful parents. They loved her dearly and treasured every moment with her. Unfortunately, her story took a dark turn as she turned three. Her parents were murdered in a vulgar display of power by a kingdom at war with their own. The only fortunate thing, perhaps, is that Yana does not really remember them.

Her parents were always close to a magic professor named Ezyl. He remained single throughout his life and bore no children of his own. When young Yana was orphaned, he did not hesitate to take her under his wing. Though she showed no talent for magic, his specialty, she did take an instant liking to the penticorn and sygriff mounts that served the cavalry. Though he forbid her from participating in combat, Ezyl allowed Yana to train with the mounted archers.

While she was still a child, Yana quickly outpaced even some of the most talented archers the kingdom had to offer. She also had a burning desire to fight against those who killed her parents, even if she did not know them. Still, Ezyl kept her home. His own experience with war was enough to want to keep her away from it.

When Yana was old enough, Ezyl gave her a very special gift: a Constellation Penticorn foal. Raising the foal taught her responsibility and quieted the fiery desire for revenge in her heart. Though she still wishes to one day prove herself capable on the battlefield, Yana is now content to raise and look after the mounts that served the kingdom. Some of them are even more loyal to her than they are their own riders!

Moofius Mania

We'll do the cliff notes version but... Her bio-dad was in a situation and wanted moolah. So he offered up his pregnant wife to undergo some tests from a Dr. Einsor. After she was born she was collected by the Original Thought, a powerful group of Chaos against the Hierarchy. They found out about this experiment of Einsor's and figured "well it must be valuable, lets steal it." and then did that thing.

So they had a little mutant human worm baby and raised her as one of their own. While anyone in the castle  had authority over her and could basically do as they pleased the primary caregivers were originally Nosentharte (nick named Nose) and Thinktankke (shit, am I misspelling that?) or Think for short. Think fell out of favour with both Moofius and the rest of the castle as a primary caregiver leaving the job almost entirely up to Nose. While Moofius met her fair share of near death experiences in the castle she was mostly happy. Her education was not formalized (most of the time) but she was taught how to read and write and speak the common human language and to read and understand chaos (she learned to speak it much later so she's not great at it).

When she was in her late teens she fled the Original Thought and the Chaos Plane to avoid her uncle Think. She wanted to learn about the humans above and found she got along with them surprisingly well. It wouldn't be until much later that Moofius would learn that she is not in fact chaos, but human, and also crazy adopted.

Dreamwalker was born a fairly ordinary kitten. His mother was a seal point siamese cat and his father was a solid grey tom. The only problem was... they weren't wanted. His mother had managed to sneak out while in heat and not being pure siamese the family that owned his mother was quick to sell the whole litter of kittens to a 'rescue'. Later the world would come to realize that the kitten drop off sites were not a rescue at all; but rather owned by a company that did animal experimentation. Dream was the second kit in the litter and the first boy. He knows that his siblings met a similar fate as his but he has yet to come across any of them. At first it was just dark; cold; and full of noises and fear smell. When he woke from transport he found himself in a cage just big enough for him to pace in; surrounded by other 'cats'. Some, like him only received injections at first. Others underwent physical modifications first and some could barely be called cats at all. Dream doesn't like to remember a lot of that time; becoming a khimera is not a pleasant thing. He does remember the first time he dreamwalked though. One of the aides had fallen asleep while pouring over some lab work. He remembered staring at her; staring hard and wondering what she was seeing. He tranced and as the cage around him faded he could see it. Meadows filled with flowers and kids romping about and playing with something similar to what the final khimera's ended up like. She was dreaming of a world where the cats had evolved or mutated enough to provide protection for the children. Animals with the obedience of a dog and the fierce feral fighting skills of a wild cat. He didn't understand how she thought altering the very basics of their nature would create something so wonderful. He charged into the dream; his own body altered to suite her vision and attacked. Claws and tail blades flashing and dancing in the sun as he did his damnedest to kill those dream kids. It turned into a nightmare; blood and screams and pain. Everything the kittens were going through to become these creatures returned twice as cruel to the dream kids. She woke up with a start and tears in her eyes; and Dream just stared at her. Unblinking. Daring her to come closer. He never saw her again... perhaps the nightmare had unnerved her enough to make her re-think being a part of these experiments.

Seanan "The Minstrel"

Before Seanan was an amnesiac going by the Minstrel, he had a lighthearted childhood in the Ardenos clan. Similar in aesthetic to vikings, this clan was a pocket of warmth and good windfall among the icy tundra that is Niveria, largely shielding Seanan to the hardships of the outside world. Unlike most of his Ardenos family, Seanan was a slight boy with a scrawny build and no fighting expertise whatsoever. As a result, he picked up instruments at a very young age, and quickly became the musical life of their large feast parties. It wasn't until he was a young teen that he was able to go out on his own a bit, occasionally visiting the Inigeri's Black Market and chasing dogs through the streets, playing games with the other kids in the village.

Eventually, he met Na'klin. Na'klin was an ice spirit--a race of fae that are bound to one person spiritually from the time of their birth, and is destined to find that person and live out their lifespan with. The two teens grew up together happily into adulthood, soulmates, until Seanan was called to perform music to the false god Mulciber as a sacrifice. The trauma forced the Ardenos to perform a memory-wiping spell--Seanan, now simply going by "The Minstrel," never saw Na'klin again.

What?  I did not have a childhood.  I simply was brought into being.  Sigh.  Fine, I'll tell you how it was when I first was...  "Born."  I did not understand the world much, everything was quite new.  Obviously, everything I saw was for the first time.  It was confusing, and I understood why many of my Master's creations before me crumbled and ceased to exist soon after they became sentient.  But I survived.  With Master's help, I was able to learn.  His magic inserted knowledge into my head, and his wiseness helped me learn how and why the world worked.  I admit I was quite curious of the world, and still am.  I was only "born" a few years ago.  I suppose, technically, I am still a child in this world, though I do not think of myself as such.  My Master was everything to me, and after he was murdered..  Well, I felt lost, but knew my only goal would be to bring him back.
