[Continued from here] Narrowly missing the falling tree, Yato leapt over it, dodging huge branches as he went and slicing through one that seemed to swing out of nowhere from the force of the fall. He grit his teeth against splintering wood, hitting the ground and running breakneck for the well. "Ready, Yukine?" he whispered, bringing the blade to his fingertips, which had begun to glow.
Instead of speaking, the sword flared with light, and Yato began to murmur an incantation as the forest blared with the demon's roar behind them. "You, being of calamity, who would seek to desecrate this land... With my advent, I, Yatogami, lay waste..."
As he rushed up to the well, still whispering words rapidly under his breath, the shadowy head rushed forward with blazing eyes. And with a sharp, sudden raise of his arm, he sliced forward into the glowing core hovering above the well's depths.
"Rend!"With a blast of light, the core was sliced in half, and Yato's vision exploded with white light. He brought his arms to cover his eyes, keeping Sekki held close, protective, until the light faded, and the forest, the well, the surrounding area, were still and silent.
Yato panted softly, raising a hand to his face and wincing at the blight that burned there. They would need to find a shrine... somewhere with purification water. He leaned against the crumbling stone wall and eyed the well wearily, seemingly quite normal now that it wasn't pouring out shadows. He held Sekki out, murmuring a dismissal command, and with a flash of white light, Yukine was standing beside him and dusting off his coat. For a moment, both were silent, simply staring at the well, before Yukine felt a drop of rain on his head and peered up with a frown.
"Could've gone worse, huh," he murmured, glancing over at Yato, his injuries, and felt a pang of sympathy run through him. "C'mon. Let's head to that shrine nearby and treat that blight."
"You'll come with me?" Yato asked, out of jokes, it seemed. He looked too tired to quip, and Yukine simply shrugged in response.
"Hiyori would kill me if I left you alone like this. Besides... you said there was a storm brewing. You'll need me."
"Hmm..." Yato hummed a soft, fond noise, reaching out to lightly ruffle up Yukine's hair, to which the boy sputtered and swatted him away. He chuckled and slid his hands into his pockets, glancing back at the well one more time before following. "Well, I hope this whole thing goes to show you that it's wrong to steal coin offerings. Have you learned your lesson, Yukine?"
Yato cut off as a shoe connected sharp with the back of his knee, buckling him instantly with a shout of pain and surprise. "Stupid! Moron! Find your own purification water!" Yukine snapped, eyes blazing with outrage as he threw his hands up in the air and stalked away. Yato scrambled to his feet and let out a pitiful sound, chasing after him with apologies spilling from his mouth.
