Adriana

It had been a couple years since she graduated high school. Christmas time was here, one of her favorite seasons. Adriana had been going to veterinary school, but hadn't seen her best friend since her graduation.

She walked up to the well, holding a small silver dollar in her hand. She always fantasized about the magic of Christmas, even if she was way too old to believe in it. "I wish," she started to say before pausing. Her mind was yelling at her that this was childish, but she didn't care. This was important to her. "I wish to see Ruth again." She dropped in the coin, swearing that she could hear a flicker of magic in the splash.

With the cold setting in, Aidyn was busier than ever, with her number of patients seemingly increasing everyday, even though she could still only manage to see so many in one single day without collapsing, herself. This was the norm, unfortunately, but people's health was not the only thing that the doctor was worried about. Financially, things were difficult at times, and it seemed it only got worse for everyone each winter, since it came with its own set of challenges.

After seeing what might have been her last patient for the day, less she be called for an emergency, the woman made a quick stop at the wishing well. She couldn't say for sure if she really believed in such things, but if all it took was a visit a few words, it was at least worth trying, wasn't it?

"I wish that everyone could have what they need." Need, not just want. If ones needs could be met, at least, they could have the chance for a better life than they had before, no  matter where they stood in their lives.

Fei cantered up to the well, looking around to make sure there wasn't anyone else around. The last thing she needed was suspicious stares from everyone around her while she was trying to do something for her friends and family.

"I wish for happiness," she said softly, as she dropped the Keystones into the well, "happiness for me and my lover, and for all my friends and family as well."

The DJ had no use for wishes, or other pretend make believe things. He just needed an alibi and this was as good as any.

He looked around to make sure people saw him and he threw a few coins into the well, before muttering under his breath some garbled nonsense. Good, that should do it.

He made sure to look up at the security camera as he passed by just to solidify things. Never hurt to be extra careful...especially when one was hiding a deadly secret.

Throwing away coins for something as insubstantial as 'wishes' seemed pretty stupid to Bambam.

"It's a scam, right? It's gotta be a scam," he said, eyeing the well in question. It didn't look all that special, though he was disappointed to find that it did look deep. There go his dreams of making a quick buck by climbing down to the bottom and fishing up all those coins, he supposed.

He wasn't stupid enough to feed cold, hard cash to this thing... but since he was here, maybe he would make a wish anyway. Scrounging around until he found a pebble, he tossed it down. "I want lots of money!" he said. "Oh, and everyone I hate can drop dead. That sounds good."

Would this kind of heist even be possible? Part of him laughed, a chuckle at the thought of raiding a public well of its coins and monies. It was so populated right now, how could he even try to do such a thing? The boss had said to try and scout the area, see if there might be anything he could do.

But when he got to the well, he wasn't surprised to find the place relatively packed.

He didn't try to think of a plan. He just focused on looking casual, hanging out by the well for a little bit before dropping a single Keystone down.

There was a MYSTERY to solve now. So he HAD to come back!

There was no way the well had changed that little girl's gloves and hat. Or, well, her gloves at least. The hat may have been one of his spells gone awry. But if the well was out, that meant there was some other magic user lingering about, casting spells on unassuming small children. And he had to sniff them out!

For science, of course.

He lifted his sniffer and took a great big sniff. His highly magical nose could detect even a millispark of magic from a mile away!

Unfortunately, this was Evelon. And there were not millisparks of magic around--there were gigasparks. Terasparks, even. He might as well have stuck his nose in a mustard jar and took a big whiff.

He fell to the ground, dazed.

((Oh raffle my raffle, this post has come in!))

I'm so fly

I'm so green (it's really amazing).
I'm so clean (too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me)!
I'm so sane (It's driving me crazy)!
It's so strange
I can't believe I'm falling for the first time!

Under normal circumstances, something so small and drab wouldn't have caught Grimmer's eye. But walking on the right side of Tenma, his eyes on the treeline, it stood out among the town's more... modern-looking structures. This looked positively ancient... and Grimmer found himself slowing down, staring at it, Tenma stopping only a pace or two ahead of him to turn around and glance back at him with wordless concern. Grimmer quickly looked back at his friend with a small smile and shake of his head. "Nothing dangerous," he murmured, and watched the metaphorical feathers lie flat.

He turned back to the spot, and gestured to it with a finger. "Looks like some sort of well. I don't know... it just caught my eye. Do you want to go look at it?"

Tenma's brows raised slightly, a lopsided smile tugging his mouth. "Well... I'm not sure we can leave any offerings. Pinching pennies these days, and all..."

"Ahh... you're right. I'm still trying to work out a gig with the local newspaper... but, until then, we should save our pennies." He moved over to the other man and looped an arm gently around him, gesturing forward with a small flourish of his hand. "Let's avoid angering the gods of the well, today, with our stinginess," he announced, only half joking, and delighted in the laugh that scrunched up Tenma's nose in response.

A place with as much activity going on like there was right now around this old well was somewhere that a young child really had no business being at normally without any apparent sign of being accompanied by a parent or obvious guardian by her side to keep watch over her. So there surely would have been all sorts of questions developing in the minds of anyone that happened to catch sight of such a little girl skipping along towards the well for her own turn at doing some wishing of her own right this very moment. The only other individual to be accompanying her was a dark colored canine, presumably a pet of sorts, who was sticking very close to her side so as to not lose sight of her among this crowd, and was practically suspicious of everyone that came too close to her. An occasional low warning growl being directed at those he especially didn't like.

He seemed to be subtle enough about this that even the girl wasn't taking notice of his current overprotectiveness, or she just wasn't paying attention, but when she finally got into the building she squealed out in delight. "Look, Mr. Doggy! The well for wishies!" It was dark and deep looking, but she was quite eager to give it something so that she could make her own wish. They didn't have any actual money to work with, but she did find a nice looking marble from somewhere in the "treasure trove" nearby their home, and hoped that it might like it. There was a small piece chipped off from it, but she tried her best to make it look good, and would carefully drop it in as she loudly declared; "I wish Mr. Doggy and I can stay together, forever!"

Oh Raven won't you sing me a happy song

You don't want me to stay alone
That's why you gotta sing your song
You keep tapping at my door
Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore
But can I ask you something
A favor from you my friend
This song you keep singin'
Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore

Here is a secret - Wolf does not believe in luck.

It's a little disheartening to put your faith in such a numinous, nebulous concept as luck - something you can't reach out and touch, something you can't even count in sweat or tears. Or misleading, perhaps, to chalk up your victories and successes to something as fickle and fleeting as the whims of fate, when it's the hours of work and focus that got you there.

But here is another secret - Wolf is standing on a street corner in Nabias, hat pulled down low over her hair, staring down into the bottomless reaches of a well promised to make your wishes come true.

Look, she can explain.

It was the rumor that started it all, of course. One of her teammates was an attracting beacon for local gossip and tall tales, and apparently he'd gotten wind of some story about how there was a magic well that people tossed coins into and granted wishes, and that yes, he knew that there were a lot of stories about magic wells just like that, but this one was different because people had been getting little slips of paper from it, too.

there is no end of things in the heart.

Rossa had no idea his son had visited the well just a few days ago. If he had known, he would have been most surprised by the level of coincidence. As it was, he was sitting on the edge of the well.

"You know, I thought Jason was doing fine. But recently he's been clamming up and acting all mopey about something. I...don't really have anything I want that you could bring me. So could you just...do something to make my son happier?''

She had come back, against all her best intentions. It hadn't even been a while, just a mere day. She was intrigued now though, pulled in by the air of mysticism around the well. Did it actually grant wishes? How did it grant wishes? Did it get granted randomly at some point in the future or did it happen immediately? There was, unfortunately, no pamphlet for her to read. No PSA for newcomers. Just, people milling about, wishing for things.

Realistically she could ask someone else how this place worked, but that felt far too forward. She would have to wait days to work up the courage, and even then she doubted her ability to just walk up to a stranger and start asking questions. For now, she'd just watch and ponder... And potentially make another wish.

How did - how did that egg get there? It. Hm... It blinks slowly, its eyes out of synch. The thing looks barely more than an idle prop, yet it has somehow come into the building that shelters the well. Its a special egg. Of that there is no doubt. Its the kind of egg that one might inter into Evelon's Got Talent. No one put the egg there, surely. When one asks around they claim no knowledge of the egg, nor even of a visitor to the well. If one were to enter into the egg's space they might notice a faint heat emanating from the thing. Its eyes would blink vacantly, but there would be the distinct sense that that pupil is trained a little too closely on an intruder. Those horns might writhe, or. A trick of the light? Surely they are nothing more than appendages of the protective shell. What's inside that thing anyway?

Lana. Xyshari.

The women returned once more, though this time, any dialogue they seemed to be having was strictly internal. They did not speak to one another, but they would exchange looks every now and again that held any number of expressions: shocked, amused, surprised, disbelief. After a particularly lengthy silence, however, Xyshari finally burst into laughter, and Lana couldn't help but chuckle along with her wife.

"So... wait, you're saying that you told Theron about our Force bond back on Dromund Kaas?" Xyshari asked, and Lana nodded.

"Yes, right after Lorman tried to tell us that you and Acina had perished," Lana said. "He was trying to look at things from a particular perspective - what if you actually were dead - and I... might've snapped at him that, if you were dead, I would either be writhing on the floor in pain, or would have dropped dead myself," she said. The two women pulled out two more Keystones and approached the well, offering each other a glance and a nod before tossing the stones into the well.

Maybe I'm foolish, maybe I'm blind
Thinking I can see through this to see what's behind
Got no way to prove it, so maybe I'm lying
Take a look in the mirror, what do you see
Can you see it clearer, or are you deceived in what you believe?
Don't ask my opinion, don't ask me to lie
Then beg for forgiveness for making you cry
'cause I'm no prophet or Messiah
You should go looking somewhere higher

I'm only human, I make mistakes
I'm only human, I do what I can
I'm only human, that's all it takes to put the blame on me

Don't put the blame on me

So... sniffing for magic wasn't going to work. But that didn't matter. Among his sundry other talents, Damien was a consummate detective! ...Reading a lot of Yeardly Lads books made you a great detective, right? Well, he knew how to look for details. Like callouses on someone's left ring finger meant they were left-handed and things like that!

His own magic had a funny smell, so he reasoned that another magic user must have a signature smell, too. But a non-magical one this time. What did he smell here?

Hot cocoa... peppermint... spruce... gingerbread... Lots and lots of Christmassy smells. But there had to be something else!

Lucain fur... Matches smoke... That Merry Polly over there smelled pretty strongly of fruit...

But nothing that seemed out of place. At least not today.
