Flat PSD Help.

Postby Sarah » 02/19/2015 9:24 PM

I'd like to preface this with I have no idea how to work photoshop in any advanced and at times even simple ways. There are a few things that have been giving me problems when I try to do certain things. Also I can only access Photoshop at my school 'cause I'm poor and cant buy it, I don't think this affects photoshop but I can't give more specifics until I get on one of the school computers. I do have three pictures from today though that I'd really like someone to help me with. I've been messing around with stuff for the past few days and these are the more prevalent things that I do not know how to make work.

These first two images are from the dweller marking although there are other markings that give me this problem.
Image
When I try to change the color directly it covers up the whole image with the color except the lineart.
Image
When I hit "select pixels" (Or whatever) it changes the color but leaves this tiny outline of grey or whatever the example color was which in this case was grey.

Okay my other problem is with some markings they do this weird thing.
Image
Where they get this weird splotchy thing going on? and it covers up everything but the lineart. It looks normal at first when I make the marking visible and then when I go to change the color it does this.

Sorry to bother anyone...

First: you are using PhotoShop, right? Because the PSDs have things that many free/simpler programs cannot handle, like groups and layer masks. Using GIMP or FireAlpaca could be the reason why certain things don't work as they should.

When you get a marking, it should look something like this, in this case, for Dweller:
Image
To change the color of the Dweller, double click on the layer; the one here with the 'fx' on its side.

Double clicking brings you a menu.

In this menu, look for the option that is ticked called Color Overlay. Selecting it brings you to a different page.

Click on the little grey square and it will bring up the color wheel.

Select the color you want from it; click OK to close the color wheel and then OK on the effects window to finalize your choice.

The problem you have with Bearhound is probably the layer mask:

Don't touch it. Don't delete it or hide it, because then that's when you get a color. Ignore it and just do the steps I listed for the Dweller, and you should be fine for all the markings.
