BBCode Problems

Postby Indigo » 06/04/2017 10:23 PM

"Problem" may be an exaggeration. Nuisance, perhaps.

When I attempt to insert tags in a post by clicking one of the buttons above the text field, and I have not already selected what I want inside the tags, they will appear in a different place from where the cursor was when I clicked the button. Sometimes they'll just appear on the line above where they were supposed to, other times they'll select a random block of existing text and do weird things to my post if I don't notice in time. This started happening around the time the wordcount thing was added so maybe they're related somehow? I don't know anything about coding, or if this is happening to anyone else for that matter.

What I love is
What I love is to hear you talk
Coming straight from the heart
Though you can't hardly walk
Nearly midnight
Honey for heaven's sake
Nearly midnight
Honey for heaven's sake

We're barely getting started here
It's almost time to go
Will time stand still
If loving you
Is all that I know?

I've had that issue recently too. I'd always just assumed the problem was with my laptop, which has a tendency to... be kinda funny about selection anyway, but this specific issue is pretty recent. If you're having it too, then... I dunno what it might be, but I am glad to hear it's not just me XD;

This may or may not be related, but I've noticed that my posts keep coming out with random page breaks in them? Like I've accidentally bumped enter while typing. It's specific to this forum, so I thought I'd mention it.

Huh, I've tried replicating this but with no luck :'l Is it specific to a browser (also for collecting info, do you use any plug-ins that affect the text field?) or does it happen on all of them? Also if there's any examples of posts with the line breaks, link me? (Or screenshots? Both? Idk xD I remember I couldn't work out why it was misbehaving for crow)

You thought you had all control
That I would never let you go

But I knew the lines, saw through your lies
Revenge is oh so sweet sometimes
I don't know where to go from here
You never wondered how it feels
When I listen to the voice inside
If I free my mind, let the stars come out

Usually I can catch the linebreaks as I'm proofreading my post, but it seems like I type a paragraph, then later notice it's like randomly inserted a line break? The linebreak appears in the text box - both quick reply and post reply - not after I actually make the post.

Example: 'Well' is broken into a new paragraph, but should not have been.

Google Chrome (latest), win10

It seems to be specific to Chrome. I don't have any extensions that would interfere unless something very weird is going on. I also don't have this problem on other websites that use similar buttons for formatting tags so ??

I tried everything people are having trouble with and also had no problems--but it's worth saying I'm running a very old version of Chrome.

Hello mystery, hello misery,
Hello -metry, how do you do?
Say atomic, say plutonium,
Sayonara, I'll see you around.
Hello genius, hello awkward, hello duty,
I hope you're doing just fine.

I can sing, I can dance, I can tear, and I can hear.
I can still be in part of this world, I guess.
I can kill, I can sleep, I can stay, and I can leave
From this full and empty world, oh, I miss you.

You're sunlight in my bones, when I'm all out of hope.
