The Thresher's Maw

Postby grizzlyThresher » 11/25/2014 9:44 PM

You find yourself lying on your back in complete darkness. You begin to sit up when the room you are currently in erupts with light, revealing that you are actually sitting in a small cavern. You hear a tapping sound, and turn to see a young man in all black tapping his cane of the same color on what looks like a stone door. "Oh dear," the man says, in a rather smooth British accent, " 'Twould  seem as though you've fallen down one of the many secret entrances to our fair city." He stops tapping his cane and instead lays a hand on a symbol etched into the middle of the door. "Nevertheless, we shall be sure to see you out." He bows his head slightly, so that you may look directly into his deep red eyes, "Unless of course, you would prefer to stay for a while." With a devilish grin, he pushes open the door to reveal, a giant underground city, with buildings that reach up to the black abyss where a ceiling should be visible and rivers of lava running in between the roads. Some of the buildings though, look rather decrepit, as though nobody has so much as looked at them for quite some time. "Ah yes, there is still a fair amount to do before we can truly begin to look presentable. A far bit indeed. But I can assure you when we are finished, this will be quite the sight to behold." You continue following the man until at last you come to another door, at which time he proceeds to turn to you, give a deep bow, and promptly disappear. You turn around once again to see that, in some of the buildings, figures are beginning to stir in the city below. You now have the choice: leave and possibly never return, or stay and see what exactly this city has to offer.

There isn't much to explore at the moment. In fact, the only thing currently noticeable is a building with a large sign stating: "Cairn & Weyr" Will Fight for Coin.

Cairn Verak

"Give me good coin and a good fight, and I'll go anywhere."

Gender: Male

Species: Blood Beetanke

Race: Half-Demon

Age: 32

Occupation: Mercenary

Connections: Weyr Lendor (Partner/Friend)

History: Born the bastard child of a lesser demon and a peasant girl, Cairn was raised to believe that the most he would ever really amount to would be tilling the fields on his own when his mother's back finally gave out. This all changed, however, when he accidentally cut his hand while working the fields. He found that though he was cut rather deep, he wasn't bleeding. At least, he wasn't until he started thinking about it, and that's when the blood began to flow. He panicked a bit, until he discovered that by the sheer power of his thoughts, he could control his own blood.

From then on, he started practicing, and soon began to develop the ability to form his blood into shapes and he even gained the ability to draw the blood out of other small creatures if he can first wound them. Unfortunately, with his constant practice of his new abilities, it wasn't too long before someone from a nearby town noticed what he was doing. That's when he was chased out of his home out of fear that one day he might start experimenting on them.

Eventually, he found his way into a wandering band of mercenaries where he met Weyr, as they were the last two survivors in a certain large battle. Since then they started to develop a sort of kinship based on consistently trying to grow stronger than one another. After a few years, the both of them found their ways to the Thresher's Maw and figured it would make as good a place as any in which to base their company.

Personality: When it comes to most things, he's rather apathetic, just moving on from one day to the next. He rarely ever feels excitement, unless he's in the middle of a really good fight, or a really good bottle of booze. He doesn't often feel feelings of friendship, and is only really able to make connections with people he considers his martial equivalent or better.

Weyr Lendor

"I live life by the three W's: Wine, Women, and Wealth"

Image

Gender: Male

Species: Venom Ferrikoon

Race: Wind Spirit

Age: 163

Occupation: Mercenary

Connections: Cairn Verak (Partner/Friend)

History: At 163 years old, Weyr is still rather young for a Wind Spirit. In fact, he would likely be considered around a teenager by human standards. This being said, he's going through a bit of a rebellious phase. He ran away from home mostly out of boredom, seeing as walking around and making wind blow everywhere doesn't make for the most exciting of days. Not long after he left, he ran into a travelling group of mercenaries and joined up for two main reasons. One was that fighting battles seemed like it would be a good change of pace from what he had been doing for the past century and a half or so. The other was the sweet, sweet allure of shiny gold pieces.

Fairly soon Weyr found himself working alongside Cairn Verak, after the rest of their company was completely annihilated in one battle, leaving only the two of them to fight off the remaining attackers. Since then, the two have had a grudging admiration of each other's abilities, ultimately leading to the two trying to one-up each other at every possible opportunity. The two of them ended up in the Thresher's Maw and decided that the inside of a mountain was as good a place as any to set up a base for their, as of right now, two person mercenary band.

Personality: He's pretty lazy, and often doesn't do much without a large amount of prodding, but when he sets his mind to something, it gets done. At the moment, there are really only three things that can ever get him to move: the promise of gold, a woman in his bed, and the chance to either kick Cairn's ass or to show him up. He fashions himself a ladies man, but if you ask anyone he's hit on they'll likely say that he's cocky and rather annoying.
