vampires
the undead
"A Vampire’s skin is limpid, pale and chilling to the touch, as well as thick and marble-like. When well fed, their cheeks flush pink with color and they appear more mortal-like, even with warmer skin. A Vampire’s eyes are piercing, their lips of a permanently stained red - with a pair of retractable fangs at their disposal. A Vampire’s hair does not grow and remains the length it was when they were mortal; if it is cut, the hair will not return and it will be as it was cut for all of eternity. A Vampire does not age after being turned, and as such their hair does not gray nor does it fall out. Their fingernails, toenails and teeth are as hard as diamonds. A Vampire does not sweat or salivate and they do not necessarily have to breathe; the older a Vampire is the less likely they will exercise their dead lungs, unless, of course, attempting to appear human. Their hearts do not beat and most of their organs do not function - although they can reproduce, with the right mate. This leaves them immune to all human illnesses. If exposed to the sun long enough, a Vampire’s skin will burn, permanently disfiguring them and creating a weakness in their skin.
Besides their increased strength, agility, and healing, Vampires have a few extra advantages. They have the ability to increase lust in an individual, often used to seduce their victims. They can communicate telepathically within someone's mind, and a few have mastered the art of mind reading. Feelings and emotions usually have a 'smell' to them, allowing Vampires to easily pick up on fear, lies, and anger.
True to legend, a Vampire will enter a coma once the sun begins to rise, wherever they may be. The state is not like sleeping, and has more similarities with death. The Vampire is not animated; he has no thoughts, no dreams, and cannot move. This is why a Vampire needs to have a safe location, for if he falls inanimate outside where the sun will shine, he will die. A coma is the Vampire’s most vulnerable state and the best state for someone wanting to harm him to catch him in.
A Vampire is created when a human is bit, but the Vampire cannot drink too much of their blood. This is extremely difficult to do, as a powerful instinct overtakes him when he tastes blood. Vampires typically can only be created when their creator is well fed and has strong self-control."
