There was a cat following you. A small cat, black and white, the usual sort. In fact, you hadn't really paid it much attention. There had been other things to think about, like the bitter wind or the perilous steps cut into the rock. The steps lead down to the House, and to the House you were going despite your better judgement. The House was a small cottage, white-washed, with a slanting roof and small windows. It went back some way into the rock, hence the name the locals gave it: The House Under the Hill.

There was a cat following you. No one else, just the cat. So it was a bit of a surprise to hear a voice behind you. "Watch out, the banister is crumbling on this next section." The cat is no more, instead, there is a man. Or what appears to be a man, the exact species is a little difficult to identify. Certainly, it sounds human, certainly, it sounds male. He's short, shorter than you. The bottom half of his face is obscured by a large, black, scarf, the top half of his face is obscured by a mask. From what you can see of the mask, it has far too many teeth for your liking.

"I'm Chester, I will show you to the Library. That is what you wanted to see, is it not? From there you can find out many things, I warn you though, it is more than a little disorganized."

Part 1: i) Paranormal Investigators

Postby Mousen » 06/03/2015 5:46 AM

A group of local kids brought together by one over-enthusiastic boy with a seemingly limitless budget when it comes to camera equipment. They look for evidence of paranormal events and beings, with the hope of proving (or disproving) the existence of such things. As you might imagine, it doesn't always go to plan.

> Jess Croup <

“ Don't worry about the damage! I'll pay for it. ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
he|darkflame kuhna
lineage|none
Personality words:
Single-minded, loyal, sharp

Jess Croup is a young man of 16, who's currently attending one of the most prestigious private schools in the country. His parents are exceedingly rich, practical and hard working and as such they see very little of any of their children. Jess has been raised nannies and tutors, largely. It's no surprise then, that in his boredom he's taken to getting into trouble now and again.

Jess is incredibly curious, to the point of being manic. Especially when it comes to anything to do with the paranormal. He's just has to know, and has to find the proof necessary to convince those around him that he's right. This is why he has bothered, badgered, begged, pleaded and on occasions bribed people to join his paranormal investigative group. He also supplies them with all of the expensive equipment they need.

Among his friends, Jess has a quick but rather severe sense of humor that manifests in sharp remarks and insults. Among strangers, he's a nervous wreck. Jess is emotional and doesn't hide it too well, in all matters, his heart is on his sleeve. Despite being an intelligent being, Jess is in the habit of assuming that other people are loyal to him just because he's loyal too them. This assumption has gotten him into trouble before.

He's a boy of average height with dark hair that's just long enough to be effeminate and stark, grey eyes with dark circles beneath them. Jess has a thin, pointed face and a slightly upturned nose, that gives the impression of being moneyed before you even hear him speak. Nearly all of his clothes are black.

No one can quite tell if Baxin is real or not. He appears as a young boy in his late teens, with lank straw-coloured hair and pale blue eyes. His clothes are old fashioned and cheaply made. He's missing three fingers on his left hand. No one can quite recall the precise details of his face... there's something about it which just slips through the cracks. He appears sometimes to warn the group of danger, or laugh at them, or be angry at whatever it is they've done wrong now. He claims to be the ghost of a witch, killed during the witch hunts 400 years before, but who can tell? He could easily be a demon, a daydream or a shared delusion.

ii) Pirates

Postby Mousen » 06/03/2015 5:47 AM

> Fishmoth <

“ You could listen to me for a change. ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
genderless|barghest
personification of
a pirate schooner
Personality words:
Quick-thinking, illusive, loyal.

The Fishmoth is a small schooner that was part of the deal that Anne Grey made when she sold her heart. It's one of the fastest on the sea, and notable for it's distinctive ashy-grey colour. Of course, since it was created through magic it has more than a couple of quirks, one of these quirks being Fishmoth. They seem to be the personification of the ship itself, although incredibly illusive Fishmoth will often appear at night or when the ship is in trouble. They have a particular fondness for keeping an eye on whoever's keeping watch at night, even if they rarely speak directly to them. Although, once Fishmoth has decided to speak you'll find that they have a wealth of dry wit and sarcasm at their disposal and tend to jump from one subject to the next so fast it's difficult to keep up.

Fishmoth is entirely genderless, although will sometimes appear more male or more female depending on their mood. They actually bear quite a striking resemblance to the figurehead on the prow of the ship itself, although that's probably not surprising. Fishmoth is a slight, red-eyed youth, with ashy hair that always appears to be caught in a gale, regardless of the actual weather.

> Anne Grey <

“ The Captain. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'Fir Coast
Technical info:
she|paragon|quad, human
custom|none
Personality words:
Business-like, enigmatic, tough.

Very little is known about Anne Grey's history before becoming captain of The Fishmoth, it seems to be made up of rumours and half-truths. What isn't disputed is that Anne Grey grew up in a small village just outside of Whisper Forest, she was raised mostly by her mother as her father was often at sea. At the age of thirteen she dressed up as a boy and ran away to join a pirate crew. Three years late she helped orchestrate a mutiny against the captain and promptly left the crew to find her own ship. Nothing was heard of her until seven years after that, when she turned up with a small schooner at the port of Sa'fir looking for a crew to follow her. Quickly rumors spread about how she'd acquired it, and it didn't help that when asked Anne simply replied that she'd sold something precious in exchange. Many people believe that she sold her soul to the devil, that day. Since gathering her crew, they've become one of the most feared pirates on the whole of the Sa'Fir Coast. A favourite tactic of theirs is to wait until the mist rolls in and attack several larger ships consecutively, using The Fishmoth's superior speed and agility.

Anne herself is a ruthless pirate, she's a good swordswoman and it often seems as though she'll do anything to achieve her goals. Don't go assuming that because she's a woman you can appeal to her soft side, she simply doesn't have one. The only thing that irritates her more than sniveling cowards are misogynists, and she shows no mercy to either of them. Although, Anne will try not to spill blood unless she absolutely has to. Despite being very business-like, she tries her best to maintain some sort of honor and morality. Her crew is her family, and although she treats them harshly she would sooner slit her own throat than loose one of them. It takes a lot to gain Anne's respect, and the people on her crew are the few people that have managed to do so.

Surprisingly, Anne is actually quite introverted and values solitude and quiet. That doesn't mean she doesn't mean she's adverse to having as much fun as the rest of her pirates, though. She gambles and drinks and is as raucous as the rest of them when she feels like it. Anne spends a lot of time in her cabin, which only adds to the general air of mysteriousness around her. She enjoys being enigmatic and even the people close to her still feel as though there's sides of her they haven't seen. There's a lot of things she never says, even to Benny and Jeremiah, her two oldest friends. When she does speak, Anne doesn't mince her words. in short, she's a difficult person to describe. Often very outgoing, determined, and sharp, other times she's reclusive, uncommunicative and almost melancholy.

Appearance-wise, Anne stands about five feet nine inches. Her hair is a dark ashy blonde and falls past her shoulders, her eyes deep brown, almost black. She has a faint olive-y tinge to her skin, and has curiously broad shoulders. Otherwise, she's of a slim, wiry build. Anne's features are sharp, and intelligent looking, her eyes are large and her lashes long dark. Though her nose is a little bit longer than average and almost pointed at the end, giving her an almost bird-like look about her and she has a small scar across her bottom lip. Clothes-wise, Anne looks like your average pirate. Bandanna, tricorn hat, hoop earrings, the lot, although she tends to stay away from bright colours and much prefers greys and other dark tones.

> Ebenezer Clifford <

“ The Quatermaster. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'fir Coast
Technical info:
he|lucain|quad, human
custom|none
Personality words:
Superstitious, experienced, loyal.

Benny Clifford has been a pirate for as long as he can remember, his parents were both pirates and probably his grand parents before then. He's been a cabin boy, a mate, a quartermaster and a captain (he even spent three disastrous months as a navigator) and now he's a quartermaster again. He was a bit down on his luck when Anne found him, and remembering her reputation originally refused to become her quartermaster although her persistence paid off and there's no one's crew he'd rather be a part of. He's incredibly loyal toward Anne and most of the crew look up to him.

Benny is very superstitious and has a thousand little ways of dispelling bad luck, he's an encyclopedia of omens and portents and puts psychics and fortune tellers in the highest regard. He was originally terrified of Fishmoth, although he's become the person they're most likely to speak to. They have a similar sense of humour. Benny and Anne also get on incredibly well, Benny providing the experience and wisdom that Anne doesn't have, he also tries to prevent her from taking too many risks, since if it was up to her they'd be the most ruthless and vicious pirate crew on the sea.

He's generally a warmhearted soul who always has a something vaguely alcoholic on hand and a few good stories for any wayward souls he happens to meet. Well, that's when he isn't at sea. Should you meet Ebenezer Clifford while at sea, he's a completely different person. It takes a lot to earn his trust and a lot more to earn his respect, he's dedicated and something of a taskmaster and he knows the sea better than most people know the back of their hand. He will show no mercy, and expects everyone else to do the same. He's spent longer on sea than he has on dry land, and is a skilled swordsman.

Benny is a scruffy, dark-haired man of about forty-something (he claims he doesn't know when his birthday is). He's relatively tall and his hair is always a little long. He's in the habit of wearing brightly coloured pieces of calico as bandannas or neckerchiefs, so it's clear that he does care somewhat. In his youth, he was considered to be quite handsome and he apparently has a couple of sons somewhere. In fact, minus a few scars and cleaned up a little, he could still be considered so.

> Erskine Fortescue <

“ The Navigator. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'fir Coast
Technical info:
he|illumindrak
quad, human
Personality words:
Exacting, fussy, argumentative.

Erskine was originally a student in a far-off coastal city before he was forced into becoming a navigator for a crew of pirates. He was quick enough to realize the value of a good navigator and spent years perfecting the craft, he had originally intended to go back to studying once he left the pirate crew but when faced with the prospect he chose to continue his life of piracy and join up with Grey's crew.

Erskine is a shrewd creature, there's no fooling him and often it seems as though he's in a perpetual bad mood. He's reclusive and studious and would much prefer to be left alone in his cabin with his books and maps than messing around with the rest of the crew. He knows his own worth, and is always quick to point out to Anne how lucky she is to have him on the ship. They'd be, quite literally, lost without him. It's because of this job stability he's so opinionated and argumentative, it seems as though Erskine takes enjoyment in stirring up trouble between members of the crew. Most people think he's a bit of a prick, and would dearly love to punch him in the face. Despite this, Erskine is their bastard and woe betide anyone else who tries to give him a piece of their mind.

He's not all bad, though. When it comes to business matters, Erskine is Anne's trusted adviser and when it comes to money matters the crew are incredibly glad he's on their side. He's an expert haggler and could probably sell ice to a polar bear if he felt like it. This side of him does tend to make him a bit stingy, though. He's a perfectionist and incredibly exacting when it comes to his work, although his habit of holding everyone else up to this standard is what gets him into so much trouble. He gets along with Garrett amazingly well, they both dislike putting up with idiocy and tend to have similar opinions about things.. He and Anne also get along fine, but he can rarely stay in a room with Frederick for more than five minutes before a massive row occurs.

Erskine very rarely he mentions his family, but he occasionally mentions his sister and his mother. He's certain that they'd hate him for turning to piracy and is convinced that they are better off believing that he's dead. Erskine is actually younger than most people think he is, being in his early thirties. He wears small oval glasses on the end of his nose, has olive skin, dark hair he keeps in a ponytail and grey eyes. He's clean-shaven, with a rather thin. sharp face and expression of constant distaste. His style of dress is fairly simple, but he takes pride in his appearance and is by the far the neatest person who sails with Anne.

> Frederick Makepiece <

“ The Navigator's Apprentice. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'fir Coast
Technical info:
he|lucain|quad, human
lineage|none
Personality words:
Lazy, talented, calm.

Frederick is actually Benny's nephew and was originally hired by Anne as a favour to his sister. Benny's sister was at the end of her rope with Frederick, she couldn't convince him to do anything, all he ever did was get into trouble and he avoided hard work wherever he could. Anne was convinced that she could straighten him out, and so he started sailing with the other pirates of The Fishmoth. What Anne hadn't realized was how intelligent Frederick was, and what lengths he would go to avoid having to do any work.

Frederick was a smart kid, but unfortunately a very lazy one. He quickly worked out that his superior intellect (at least compared to the other people his age) would allow him to get what he wanted with minimal effort and this attitude has unfortunately carried over to his work with Erskine and the crew of the Fishmoth. Frederick is an incredibly calm individual, he's always very optimistic and dislikes getting worked up about anything. He's completely unfazed by being shouted at, screamed at, cried at or pleaded with and in some ways he's incredibly self-absorbed.

However, don't make the mistake of thinking Frederick is entirely passive. He's incredibly stubborn when it comes to certain things, especially Erskine. He's worked out that the easiest way to have to get out of doing any work is to pick fights with Erskine, which he does with alarming frequency and if he wasn't so damned talented at navigation Erskine would have given up on him ages ago. During these arguments, the normally laid back apprentice can turn exceptionally vicious. The only person who can calm the two of them down is Jeremiah and that's only because Frederick completely idolizes Jeremiah.

Frederick is a young man in his twenties, fairly dark-skinned, with brown hair that's always kept short. He has a slightly crooked grin, probably from getting into a couple of fights when he was younger. He's of an average height and build, but his most unusual feature is probably his startling pale green eyes, which are apparently from his father's side of the family. Frederick always wears the same, incredibly worn military jacket that he stole from an officer a few years back.

> Jerimiah Elmswood <

“ The Boatswain. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'Fir Coast
Technical info:
he|bobcat slynx
quad, human
Personality words:
Sneaky, organized, smug.

Like Anne, Jeremiah likes to keep his past to himself though he can't stop the rumors from circulating. The most widely accepted version is that he sailed for the navy for some time before meeting Anne back when she was a cabin boy. Then, when she found herself looking for crew members she went looking for him and asked him to join her. Although this seems far-fetched, it's obvious that Jeremiah has known both Anne and Benny for some time.

Jeremiah seems to know everyone, he has a contact there, a friend who owes him a favour there. He's always up to something, a plot or a scheme or a solution to a problem. Really, it's quite miraculous how he manages to pull half of the off. He seems to work miracles some days, and it wouldn't look so strange if it didn't appear to be so easy. He has the luck of the devil and seems to come out unscathed from most situations, it would be less annoying if he wasn't so smug about it all of the time. He's the cat that got the cream, the cream in this case being profit of one sort of another. His first thought upon coming into a situation is how much profit he can make from it, whether that profit be monetary or otherwise. He's rather like both Anne and Erskine in that respect. He likes to think of himself as a ladies' man, and Jeremiah is always trying to woo somebody, even if his romantic endeavors always seemed doomed to end horrendously. The only time Jeremiah ever seems flustered is when he's speaking to the current object of his affections.

In some ways, Jeremiah is the heart of the group. Even though he seems to be as ruthless as Anne sometimes, he's quite easily swayed by a good sob story. He enjoys dramatics, and is an insufferable romantic. Something which he does his best to hide. Being the Boatswain, he deals with supplies, checking the ships rigging, sails and various other things, although lately he's got saddled with the job of handling disputes between crew members, something that should technically be the quarter master's job. It's just that he's become the only one who can settle down Erskine and Frederick after they've had yet another one of their  tiffs. He's very good with people, and the other crew members often find themselves coming to him for advice, despite his massive ego. Jeremiah is someone who, regardless of the situation, will never appear out of his depth. Of course, most of his act is sheer confidence, having a quick mind does help but even when he's running himself ragged Jeremiah would never admit it. It'd spoil the fun, after all.

Jeremiah is a relatively handsome man in his late thirties. He's rather pale, with dark blond hair and grey eyes. He's quite short, and you'd be forgiven for writing him off as a waif, but don't be fooled Jeremiah can best both Anne and Benny should it come down to swordsmanship. His appearance, in one word, could be described as suave. He dresses with a great deal of flair and favours a long coat and purple cravat, although both items are looking distinctly weather-worn now.

> Marie Bytheway <

“ The Master Gunner. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'Fir Coast.
Technical info:
she|| ringed tricky
quad, human
Personality words:
Hard working, measured, determined.

Marie is one of the women who sail on The Fishmoth. Her father was a gunsmith in a small coastal town and she picked up all of her knowledge from him. She joined up to the crew after her mother threatened to marry her off to the undertaker's son. Her mother was always very strict about what Marie was going to do with her life. Which didn't suit Marie at all, so she packed her bags and left.

Stubborn and determined, Marie has a plan for every given situation. She's down to earth, but never gives her opinion or makes a decision without thinking it over properly first. Her reluctance to commit often irritates her fellow crew members when they look to her for support on an argument. Marie is a crack shot, having handled fire arms since being a young child. The crew tend to consider her one of the boys, even though she doesn't really make any sort of effort to be more masculine. In fact, she tends to be overlooked a lot, usually because she's so sedate. Marie is an extrovert and likes be around people even if she's rarely the center of attention.

Really, the reason she's so sedate is because she likes to conserve her energy for the real battles. Once Marie is angry or upset about something, she's a force to be reckoned with. There's no way anyone is ever going to make her do anything she doesn't want to do, she knows who she is and everyone else is going to have to deal with it and that's that. She won't sit by and stand for anything she perceives to be injustice and while her moral code is a little warped (being a pirate and all) she does stand by it. She doesn't bet and she doesn't drink much, although she does smoke a pipe. Marie is nearly always working, and dislikes inaction.

Marie is a young woman of average height, broad shouldered and freckly with large brown eyes and shoulder-length ginger hair. She a plain, good natured face that many people would find pretty and she dresses in a pretty even mix of breeches some days and skirts on others, her clothes are always a bit tattered but she does her best to keep them clean and patched up, although she's not too fussy.

> Silvester <

“ The Carpenter ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
he|evergreen
quad, human
Personality words:
Diligent, quiet, eccentric.

No one knows much about Silvester, in fact, no one even knows his first name. He was one of the first people Anne found to join her pirate crew when she first turned up with The Fishmoth. One things for sure, he looks after the ship and is almost certainly the best carpenter on the black coast. Silvester works almost silently for the most part, although he often hums to himself. Never really any particular tune, in fact, it's almost like a strange little language only he knows. Silvester certainly can talk, even if it rarely seems like it. He probably hasn't exchanged more than a handful of words with any of the crew.

Fishmoth itself is actually rather fond of Silvester and likes to watch him work if no one else is around. Silvester doesn't seem to mind, in fact, he seems to mind very little about most things. He's incredibly hard working and is always busy doing something. He seems to be one of those people who find it difficult to sit still. No one really knows what he gets up to in his spare time, although he's unnaturally good at any card game you care to include him and he can drink to rival the best of them.

Appearance-wise, Silvester is a tiny man (around five foot four) in his fifties, with a short, scruffy-looking beard and brown eyes. He wears the same long (for him), brown coat filled with patches and pockets, all of which are filled with tools.

> Nox <

“ The Surgeon. ”

Last known residence:
The Fishmoth, Sa'fir Coast
Technical info:
he|tomb imuet|
quad, human
Personality words:
Generous, aloof, knowledgeable.

Nox, who's full name is apparently unpronounceable to uncivilized tongues, is the ship's surgeon. He comes from a town in the Wilt'no. He was a priest rather left the town to spread word of his religion, although he quickly realized that very few people were interested in his religion and many more were interested in swindling, conning, or murdering him. However, he didn't let this deter him he just took to carrying around a couple of large machetes and looking a little bit more threatening. For many years, back in the Wilt'no, Nox studied to be a healer (before religion became important to him) and has a good understanding of medicine, perhaps even superior to those who studied more conventional texts. After sometime he tried to make an honest living as a surgeon in Sa'fir, before joining Anne's crew at her behest.

Nox's religion is a rather fascinating one, their main practices are kindness (although they believe that being kind and generous is a natural thing everyone should do without expecting thanks), and humility. They value intelligence, and have several incredibly complex philosophies regarding the nature of fate and destiny. One of their most prominent figures is a goddess known as Alma the Weaver.

Nox has a cynicism and a jaded attitude that very rarely leaves him. His expression is usually one of disgruntled annoyance. He's sick of the weather, he's sick of idiots who keep getting stabbed, and most of all he's sick of this goddamn ship. He's a realist, and dislikes mincing his words or toning his opinions down, a shame, considering how negative most of them are. Nox firmly believes that most people are complete morons, however, unlike most people with this opinion he doesn't really hold it against them. It's fact, simple as that. He will always see the worst in any situation, and like most of the crew of the Fishmoth, is actually rather introverted. Well, apart from when he's giving one of his infamous lectures, that is. Despite this, Nox is actually an incredibly kind soul, and he follows his religion to the letter. He truly believes in being kind for the sake of it, and tries to be humble when he can. Nox is smarter than most people he meets, and his kindness doesn't always stop him from testing them to see if they can keep up.

Oddly enough, Nox is slightly older than he looks, being in his late fifties. Although since people from his town often live into their late 140's, he's not really that old. He's a rather grizzled looking fellow with a with thin face and a deceptively slight frame. His hair is cropped short, but he wears a small goatee. He's long abandoned the traditional priest garb and instead prefers to dress like a surgeon; rolled up white shirt sleeves, and a slightly bloodstained apron. Honestly, it's no wonder people find him intimidating. When Nox became a priest one of his friends gave him a feathered scarab to celebrate the occasion, it's name is Serqet and Nox is never seen without it by his side.

Personality words:
Dignified, adventurous, opinionated.

The Duchess lead a very interesting life prior to Anne asking if she'd like to join the crew of the Fishmoth. She had been, according to her, been a member of the aristocracy and had been unhappily married to a Duke for several years, they moved the household when the Duke she'd married decided to pursue a naval career. Then, when pirates broke into the house she saw an opportunity to escape, and so she did. For a time, she found herself in the underworld of that particular city and for several years became a prize fighter. (Her mother, an unusual woman to say the least, had been of the opinion that a young lady should always be able to defend herself against attack. She was entirely right.) After that, she married an incredibly famous and dastardly pirate(the same pirate who had killed her previous husband, no less), had two children, lead a mutiny against him when he became too bloodthirsty and became captain of his ship for several years. During that time she had a love affair with another female pirate captain, and they became two of the most feared pirates on the sea. They were eventually captured, and while The Duchess managed to escape, her lover was hanged.

When Anne found her, The Duchess was running a small tavern several miles inland. Anne convinced her to come out of retirement to join her crew. Very few people actually know The Duchess's name, although, apparently if asked nicely she'll allow you to call her Anastasia. The Duchess has an extremely dignified air about her, and even at forty-eight she maintains the wiry strength and fast reflexes that made her one of the best prize-fighters this side of Jawan. She's ruled more by her heart than Anne is, although, overall she's more stately than Anne, who tends to be sharp and ambitious, rather than passionate and adventurous.

The Duchess dislikes staying still, and just as in her youth, she has an adventurous spirit. She had, before Anne approached her, assumed that she was done with the seafaring life, but she couldn't quite let it go-The Duchess still has a lot to see. The Duchess prefers fist-fighting to sword fighting, although she's far from inept. The Duchess is a lover, a fighter and an aristocrat, even now she throws herself into what she does wholeheartedly. She lives with very few regrets, few fears and has an unshakable confidence that is entirely enviable. She is usually able to play things cool, but does loose her temper occasionally and can be rash and hot-headed when her emotions get in the way, particularly if family is involved. To her, the people you love are everything, unless they hurt you. In which case it is completely permissible to slit their throats.

The Duchess hasn't lost her beauty all these years, her hair, which used to be golden is now white. She keeps it as she always has done, wound up elegantly on the top of her head. She's around five foot six, and her nose is extremely crooked from being broken so often during her prize-fighting days, and even before that it was her most striking feature. She wears lots of jewelry, including her engagement rings from her first and second husbands and a locket from her lover. There's something very regal about her attire, which while not being too different from the other pirates, retains a sort of elegance. The Duchess has a fondness for yellow calico, and will wear odd pieces of fabric tied around her waist and hair, this is mainly because it was the favourite colour of one Elizabeth Ackley, who captained the frigate The Marigold until her death.

Personality words:
Tough, watchful, easily angered.

Garrett Ashby is a fairly recent addition to Anne's crew. Garrett was invited to join the crew after Anne saw him win a bar fight and decided that they could use some more muscle on the crew, and make no mistake Garrett is a terrifying figure. Although, it wasn't just his brawn that made him an ideal crew member of the Fishmoth, it was the fact that he accidentally managed to burn down the bar afterwards. Garrett has the abilities of a fire mage, but unfortunately, he never received any training for them and so is only able to preform the most basic forms of magic.

Garrett was one of many siblings, his family were scared of his abilities and the damage they could cause so encouraged him to keep them under wraps and never use them. Once he left the household, Garrett quickly realized how useful they could be. He spent several years at sea, going from merchant crews to pirate crews and back again. He was a fairly experienced sailor by the time his and Anne's paths crossed. Garrett is an extremely resilient soul, there's very little that can faze him. He's a warrior at heart, and is never willing to give up without a fight, even if the odds seem completely against him. He's a quiet guy who likes to focus on the job at hand, that mixed with the fact he's not sociable even when he has time to waste, makes him a fairly intimidating character.

He tends to be a little bit quick to defend himself or his actions, and is easily angered by those around him. Garrett is someone with an extremely low tolerance for bullshit, although he quite quickly learnt to respect the other crew members of the Fishmoth. Surprisingly, he and Erskine have struck up an incredibly close friendship. Because Garrert is so quiet, he notices more than he lets on and is surprisingly observant. He probably has a better understanding of the feelings and opinions of the crew than Jeremiah does, and that's saying something.

Garrett is an incredibly tall fellow, with very broad shoulders and deep-set eyes. He has dark, curly hair and appears to be in his mid-thirties. He has some rather nasty burns on his forearms, from bungled experiments with his magic when he was younger, and various scars from all the fights he's been in over the years. All in all, he's someone you don't want to mess with.

Personality words:

Rossy is the ship's cat, she wandered onto the ship when Anne first docked at Sa'fir and hasn't left since. After some negotiation Rossy agreed to be the ship's cat for a small cut in whatever treasure they find along with all the mice she can eat. You see, Rossy wasn't always just a cat. Originally she was a sucrose kuhna with the ability to turn into a human, but somewhere along the line she got into some trouble with a witch and was cursed. She doesn't seem to mind being a cat too much and has retained her ability to speak. For the most part, she's very quiet and will only talk when it suits her.

It seems that being a cat has rubbed off on Rossy, and she can be very problematic, even Anne can't control her. If you upset Rossy she has a habit of leaving dead mice in shoes or on hammocks for you to find, only to later claim that it was a sign of affection. She's contrary and lazy, but does have some surprisingly good qualities. Rossy is no idiot and if in the right mood can be an excellent conversational partner, she always has some new outlook or some interesting thing to say. She's only young-- around eighteen and she's spent five of those as a cat, but she maintains her cheery outlook on life. Rossy one day hopes to break the curse and be able to live life normally again, but until that day comes she's entirely happy to hang around with the pirates of The Fishmoth.

Personality words:
Changeable, mysterious, untrustworthy, dangerous.

Valerian is a strange creature, she appears to be some sort of powerful sea spirit or goddess, no one is quite sure which. She appears sometimes, here and there, near and far, and wherever she goes she likes to bring trouble with her. She can't step on dry land, and so has to make up her own entertainment with the sailors and ships that stray onto her path. Her favourite thing is to make deals with them, sometimes she'll take something as simple as a tooth in exchange for a day or two of good luck, other times she'll steal away hearts or souls simply because she felt like it. She's dangerous, and feels no remorse in killing or drowning innocent bystanders simply for the fun of it, in some ways she acts exceptionally childish. She's watched men come and go and most of them appear like ants to her, however once in a while she can't help but take an interest in one of them.

Her current project is Anne Grey who in exchange for her heart bought twenty favoured years and a wish, although Valerian was feeling very generous that day. The most she normally offers in exchange for a heart is thirteen years and a wish, even then sailors sometimes only get seven. In fact, Valerian is quite fond of Anne generally and finds the young woman to be quite curious. She has a habit of appearing whenever things get interesting for the crew of The Fishmoth, if only to tease Anne a little. Originally the sailors were terrified of Valerian, although now they simply roll their eyes and tell Anne her wife is here to see her.

Appearance-wise, Valerian has no fixed form. Sometimes she's an ilos, or a mermaid, a siren, flying fish, young woman, albatross, she appears however she likes however her ilos and mermaid-like forms are her current favourites and tends to favour those above the myriad of other forms she can take.

personification of a fishing sloop
Personality words:
Of course a boy like James Makepiece would have an enchanted fishing sloop. He's just that type of boy.
The Gallimaufry was given to him, against the wishes of his mother, by an lodger of their's. He was an old sea dog, too old now for sailing. He was impressed by the boy's moral fibre and courage, especially in a house like the Makepieces'. James, immediately left home to sail, where he found the ship was a little more than he expected.

Gallimaufry is some kind of spirit, sometimes appearing as a bird, other times as a voice on the wind or a figure on the bow, sat staring into the sea. They care about James immensely, sharing in his ambitions and completely taken by his somewhat-childish but entirely good-willed enthusiasms. They're charmed by his adoration of them, and won't hear anything against him, going so far as to cause accidents for those who disagree with him. They mostly only appear to James, and even then, its normally just a quiet word on his ear.
They seem to understand each other without speaking, which confuses even the longest-serving members of the crew. Gaullimaufry will do anything to avoid seeing their captain come to harm.

In of themselves, Gaullimaufry is quiet, shy, but curious. They like to hide, but will come out if called gently,
or else if something catches their attention. They love attention and being sung to, but are feisty and bitter when crossed.

Personality words:

James is one of those people who are so fundamentally nice, courageous and well-meaning that you can't help but like them, even when you don't want to. Despite being raised in a household where most of the men were pirates and many of the women weren't far off, James seemingly from nowhere chose a life of grace and virtue. He wouldn't take any money off of his relatives in case it was stolen, and worked honestly to earn enough money to buy himself a prayer book. Now, having aged a little, James fancies himself as a Robin Hood character, trying to make a difference to the poor and less fortunate by taking money from those that he thought deserved it.

James is incredibly charismatic and totally unaware of it, his charm, patience and kindness just seem to be unending. He frequently puts his life in danger trusting the good will of others and doesn't even seem to notice when others are worried for him. He's an excellent swordsman, although, as you might imagine kills people very reluctantly. His worldview seems rather simplistic, but James ploughs on anyway, and people find it so easy to get swept away with him, despite their better judgement. He's not necessarily a fool, and is quite adept at forming plans and outsmarting others, he just has never really stopped for long enough to question what he's doing. He's self-assured to the point of not really knowing how to be anything else. He's a hardworker, and cares deeply for the people around him. If he does notice their flaws, he certainly doesn't let on. James seems to assume that the people around him are as virtuous as he is.

Its really only James' family who seem immune to his charms, his brother, uncle and mother all being rather despairing of his naivete and desperately wishing that someone with his natural talents at, well... most things would spend their time doing something more useful.

James is lovely to look at, with brown curls that fall angelically around his face, bright, intelligent eyes and a kind face. He's not too fastidious, but makes sure to keep himself clean, he dresses simply and plainly. Any money spent on expenses is money that could be given to someone who needs it. If money must be spent,
its generally to go on the ship. Anything he owns has probably been repaired several times. He wears a small silver cross and a piece of carved jet his mother gave him.

iii) Knights

Postby Mousen » 06/03/2015 5:51 AM

Several knights, a monk, lady, and a witch were all magically transported to Evelon. Maybe they fell through a ladder in the tights of the universe, maybe a powerful force brought them here. Fate or a random co-incidence, they've got no idea. And as if the change from 13th century to modern day Evelon wasn't enough to contend with, the rag-tag group have gained the ability to turn into some of Evelon's indigenous fauna. None of them know what's taken place and while some of them are desperate to get back, some are even more desperate to stay.

Personality words:
Loud, authoritative, caring.

John Sontheil is one of the oldest of the knights that found themselves in Evelon, he was apprenticed to a knight within Knaresborough Castle and he grew up there, eventually becoming a knight himself. While still at the castle he married the 17-year old Lissebette Caillot, who was nine years his junior. They eventually had a son, who they named Phillip. Once their son was seven he was sent off to another castle to serve as a page. Scarborough Castle, as a matter of fact. While back in England, he always took the code of honor very seriously and even though he was relatively good friends with Gouen, they had a terrible argument after he tried to run off with Idla and he's very vocal about the fact that they should not, under any circumstances, forgive Ivan for what he's done.

There's quite a few different sides to John, when he's with his fellow knights, he's brash, occasionally verging on rude, opinionated and unbelievably loud. Everything is a joke and he's always teasing his friends. John isn't someone who'll happily sit idle, he always has to be where the action is. He's a warrior at heart and an excellent strategist and he knows the battlefield very well. When he's anywhere near Lissebette, he immediately becomes much more subdued and it's very clear how much he cares for her. She's a complete blind spot for him and while the general opinion of Lissebette was that she was quite a plain girl, John wouldn't(and still won't) hear any of it. He was completely besotted with her from the first moment they started courting.

Though he never actually came face-to-face with Reynard, he did meet both Ivan and Gouen on numerous occasions, and the three of them were relatively good friends. Like Ivan, John was was a huge fan of hunting and he always seems to come back with the same embroidered story about that stag he once caught. Generally though, John was always quite similar to Gouen, they share the same gruff attitude, though Gouen is much quieter and less judgmental of other people. John was always incredibly righteous, and will always do the right thing regardless of how much trouble it causes for him or for other people. He can be quite hot-headed, especially when he believes something is being kept from him. Despite this, he does make a very good leader and makes sure to keep the motley group of knights together. Even if, on occasions, he has made emotional decisions rather than rational ones.

He's a brown-haired man nearing forty, with mud-coloured eyes. While he takes no great pride in his appearance, he does try to make an effort, even if it's only for Lissbette. He's relatively tall, like most knights, and of a broad built. In his lucain form, he's a deep red colour with paler, cream-coloured markings. He doesn't seem to mind his lucain form, though definitely prefers his human form. Unlike the others, who are mostly indifferent to returning, John is dead-set on doing so. He can't imagine spending the rest of his life in a place like this, he and the rest of the knights spend there days travelling trying to find a way back because of this. His main reason for getting back is because he's certain that both his wife and his son are back in Medieval England.

Personality words:
Quiet, steadfast, grounded.

Most of Gouen's past seems to be pretty standard for a knight of his time, his father had been a knight, as had his grandfather. He spent most of his life in Yorkshire, England, serving under the current lord of Helmsley Castle.  During that time, he was often found near one of the abbeys or churches in the area and was actually very religious. At one time, he'd actually considered becoming a monk.

Gouen doesn't tend to speak much, unless he's speaking to someone important. It's not that he's impolite, he's just abrupt. He's naturally rather quiet and taciturn. When he doesn't speak Gouen doesn't like to mince his words. Its not that he's cold person, in fact, once Gouen is really comfortable with someone he'll finally expose his dry sense of humour.

He dislikes attention of any sort and would much rather go ignored, left to his own thoughts. He does have something of a competitive streak, though, Gouen loves competition. He rarely plays chess, but when he does, it becomes quite clear. Many members of the court assumed Gouen to be rather unintelligent. Loyal, honest, chivalrous, but not.... smart. He  always seemed to have trouble with reading and writing and had Gouen actually been born in Evelon, they would have quickly discovered that he's dyslexic. Despite this, he is quite bright and has always been of a grounded, practical nature. Even tempered, Gouen was never one for rushing into situations.

Gouen is quite tall, with blue eyes and dark brown hair that seems to permanently resemble a bird's nest, no matter what he does with it. He's of a sturdy, broad-shouldered build. There's something about him which makes most people shy away from him, for one reason or another, he always manages to look imposing. Perhaps there's a harshness about his face, or maybe it's the rather fierce expression his eyes always seem to have. Either way, he doesn't seem like he's the most caring of knights. Gouen seems to have taken to his lucain form well, in fact one might think he prefers it over his human form. While Evelon confuses him, he seems to accept that they're stuck here for the time being and is quite content with that. Despite this he's currently travelling with John, Cadby and Reynard trying to find a way back home.

Personality words:
Embittered, quick,

Ivan Santoclair had a fairly standard upbringing for a knight. He'd originally come from Barnard Castle, though after his father's untimely death he became a squire to a knight that served under the lord of Helmsley castle. It was there he met Gouen Pevrel, another squire who was a couple of years older than he, and marginally further on in his training to become a knight. He and Gouen quickly stuck up a friendship. However, when Ivan murdered a fellow knight. It had been an accident, the knight in question a abhorrent graceless fellow and something that been little more than a scrap quickly turned lethal. One of them was dead, the other disgraced. After that, Ivan became something of a nomad, wandering around various forests, and only venturing into civilization if he needed to.

He can be rather bitter at times, especially toward the people he used to call his friends. Loosing his knighthood, the very thing he'd spent most of his life training for, took it's toll. Ivan was always sharp-witted, very polite and persuasive. He has the social skills that Gouen lacks and he puts them to good use, often manipulating people to get his way. His conscience doesn't always sit right with all the lies he tells, but Ivan reasons that he has no other choice. Even after his time living as a nomad, Ivan still has his morals. He still holds the traditional values of a knight close to his heart, honour, bravery, loyalty, chivalry and everything else he was taught a knight should be. Honesty, however, was always something he had a problem with, a few half-truths, a little flattery and that difficult situation was gone. It made things so much easier. Getting people to see the other side of someone's argument was always his speciality.

Back at the castle, Ivan excelled at all of the more intellectual pursuits a knight was expected to involve himself in. Poetry, dancing, chess, you name it, Ivan was good at it. (Or atleast pretended to be.) Like Gouen, Ivan was also someone who was very competitive and the two of them were forever competing against one another. While they were evenly matched in most things, Ivan's swordsmanship was never quite as accomplished as Gouen's. At one point in time, he'd been the one of the best hunters in Yorkshire, it was rumoured that there wasn't a stag in England he wouldn't be able to catch. While back in medieval England his two hunting dogs, Carbuncle and Muskaliet were two blue roan greyhounds of the finest breeding. They're now two yonyuus, but the change hasn't bothered them all that much.

Ivan was always one of the more handsome knights, though his lifestyle doesn't really allow him to keep that up, unkempt black hair falls around his face and his clothes are getting tatty. He's quite tanned, slightly taller than Gouen, but not quite as stocky. The most striking thing about how Ivan looks, are his eyes. They're a pale hazel but have an unnerving tendency to look yellow in some lights, almost like a cat's. Although since arriving in Evelon, it'd be more appropriate to describe his eyes as 'wolfish', and indeed there's something wolfish about Ivan in general. He's rather fond of his lucain form, anything to keep up with his beloved hunting dogs.

Ivan likes it in Evelon, and he has no plans to return. He's not entirely sure what the future holds or where to go from here, so he tries to live day-to-day.

Personality words:
Lighthearted, intelligent, awkward

Reynard grew up on the Welsh border, at a time when the line between England and Wales was much contested. His father was a Lord, but being the youngest of eight (two brothers, five sisters), he didn't stand to inherent much and so once he was old enough he was sent away to become a knight. This is not so unusual, what is unusual however is the way he ended up in the lives of Gouen and John, both of them being Yorkshire folk. While the story itself is an incredibly long one, the basis of it is that while travelling across to a nearby castle he was ambushed by a group of thieves who stole his horse and his consequent attempts to head to the castle only ended up in him getting more and more lost. It was Gouen who eventually found him wandering the Yorkshire moors.

Back home, he was never really taken very seriously by any of the other knights due to his awful sense of direction and  his remarkable ability of saying the worst possible thing at the worst possible moment. Even aside from this, Reynard has a habit of playing the fool in most situations and it's easy to forget that he's actually very intellectual. He loves literature and is a voracious reader. During his spare time writes copious amounts of poetry, though very little of it actually sees the light of day. When not acting like court jester or otherwise making a fool of himself you'll find that he's actually a talented swordsman. Being of a slight build he doesn't quite have the strength that Gouen has, but he's light on his feet and nimble.

Reynard is a kindhearted soul and he hates seeing other people unhappy. Any sort of injustice or suffering hits him particularly hard and the other knights often accuse him of being soft. It's in this vain that his habit of making decisions without thinking them through entirely tends to get him into trouble. Despite the fact that Reynard tends to be outgoing around his friends, he's often very quiet around people he doesn't know. It took him two weeks to manage any more than a simple 'good day' when he first met the other knights. Once over the first impressions, it becomes almost impossible not to like Reynard, what with his collection of impossibly ridiculous anecdotes (all of which he insists are completely true) and his relaxed come-what-may attitude. It's a particular philosophy of his that life will take people where they need to go, and that it's not worth fighting against these things. Though, he's still perfectly content in helping John look for a way back. Reynard is not entirely sure if he'll return with him, but he supposes he'll decide when he gets there.

He's quite short for a knight, with a mop of bright strawberry blonde hair and wide blue eyes. The freckles don't do much to help the fact that overall, Reynard barely looks old enough to be a knight. His features are quite pixie-like, generally. While he's not quite as typically handsome as the likes of Ivan or John in his younger days, Reynard has a curious sort of charm about him. He has a very strong Welsh accent, which is a source of endless amusement to the various creatures that reside in Evelon, and several of them have actually had difficulty understanding him. Not that Gouen's strong Yorkshire accent is much better, by any means.

Cheery, inventive, naive.

Cadby is bright, bubbly and always in trouble. The polar opposite of Gouen, he'd just gone from being a page to a squire when they were all transported into Evelon. He'd had a traditional upbringing, that is to say, traditional for the 13th century. His father had died sometime before Cadby became a squire, and in some ways, Gouen is a replacement father figure for the boy. The knight wasn't originally planning on training a squire, but as Cadby's father had been an old friend of the knight, he'd found himself unable to refuse.

Cadby is around thirteen, though just by looking at him, you'd probably assume he was younger. A mop of curly blonde hair obscures most of Cadby's face. His bouncy, happy-go-lucky attitude that's only got worse since he's been away from all of the rules of medieval England doesn't help either. If you were to ask him, he'd say that he much prefers it here to back home, however he feels that he doesn't really have a choice but to go wherever Gouen is. Even if knights don't really have much of a purpose in Evelon, he's never wanted to be anything else and it's what he's been training for his entire life.

Always optimistic, there's nothing he can't put a positive spin-on. He's hardworking, though gets bored easily. Cadby is always looking to have a laugh and he'll goof around whenever he gets a chance, which is something that often gets him into trouble. He and Reynard have a good relationship, since Reynard is more or less the 'fun uncle' and messes around just as much as Cadby does, if not more. Whatever he's up to at the time, you can be sure that it's always well-meaning, even if things don't always go to plan. He's someone who always tries his best, even if his near-constant enthusiasm and boundless amounts of energy are often a little bit misguided. He can be a little naive at times, running into situations and striking up conversations with people he doesn't have the faintest idea about. Cadby is often quite innovative and it's clear that he is rather intelligent.

Personality words:

While Idla was originally brought to be a simple peasant girl, but as is often the case in these stories, that wasn't what fate had in store for her. From a very early age Idla had practiced witchcraft, it was something she fell into quite naturally and it was only when an old woman approached her in the woods that she realized she wasn't alone in this craft. The woman taught her, and over time Idla became very well versed in the ways of magic. She met Gouen when he was a squire and was passing through the village where the young girl lived, and the rest is history. As they grew older she and Gouen fell in love. They hatched a plan in order to get married and Gouen wasn't able to keep such a crazy plan from his greatest friend, Ivan. When the plan failed he was the one who convinced the entire court that Gouen had been enchanted, and he was the one who set the wheels in motion for her convenient escape before her execution.

On first glance, Idla seems like a bitter and slightly disturbed woman hell-bent on revenge for her slights, but she used to be and still is much more than that. Beneath the mask of betrayal and anger, there is a quick mind and a large heart. Practical and able to cope with almost anything you throw at her, Idla is quick to adapt and slow to anger. She tries to think things through before she does them and always tries to put her intelligence to good use. Once she is angered, however, that anger can remain simmering for years; her memory is a long one.

She is loyal soul and never forgets when she owes a debt to someone. Idla will offer her help freely along with the understanding that one day the favour may be returned. Some might describe her as brave, and indeed, she does fear very little. But, what is there to fear in places of trees and forests where men are seldom? Idla is old fashioned and has little time for theories, often discarding ideas that are of no use to her. She dislikes change and is often extremely stubborn.

Idla is quite a small, petite woman, with dark brown hair that reaches her waist and bright blue eyes. Her features are small and pixie-like, and her face freckled through working in the forests. She wears mostly simple dresses in earthy shades of red and crimson. Her preference is to go barefoot where she can. In her Kitrell form, Idla is a dark red with blue accents on her feathers. Unlike some of the others, she'd much rather stay in Evelon than go back home and will do anything to remain here. Since being transported into Whisper Forrest, she's struck up a friendship with Ivan and the two of them travel together intermittently.

Gentle, witty, determined.

Lissebette Calliot was a Lady at Knaresborough castle, she'd been born there. Her father had been a knight there, and her mother a Lady like her, they were  She had a traditional, strict upbringing. Although, she was difficult to discipline and often regarded as a rather troublesome child. When Lissebette made her debut in court, this side of her seemed to vanish and her parents were hopeful of finding a good match for her, and eventually John Sontheil turned up and the two of them married. When she was transported to Evelon, she, her son, and a monk named Caedmon ended up in a different part of the forest from the knights and she has no idea that her husband is also in Evelon.

Lissebette, on first glance gentle soul, she's patient and sweet-tempered. Although, that's not all she is, Lissebette has a rather dry, almost callous sense of humor, that very few people ever get to see. She was careful at keeping that side of her hidden, as she realized it would do her no good. Lissebette is a realist, and she's always been rather good at measuring up a situation, in fact, Ivan would often turn to Lissebette for advice. She never minded listening to other people's problems, and quite enjoyed helping people out where she could. She's always cared about people, and it was her kind heart that first drew John to her. She dislikes seeing suffering, and tried to stop or minimize it where she could.

However, Lissebette has always been a pragmatist. She knows how cruel the world can be, and chooses to meet it on her own terms. She originally married John because she realized that he would be able to provide for her, and any children she had, and because she was fairly certain that he wouldn't be cruel to her. However, after they were together she did find herself falling in love with him and she has no regrets about her decision to marry him. Since coming to Evelon, her entire perspective on life has been changed dramatically. While, she had never been particularly unhappy in her previous life, modern-day Evelon has offered her freedoms she never thought possible. She's read extensively on feminism and social justice, and now knows that there's no possible way she can return to medieval England. The thought of leaving John behind breaks her heart, but she's not going back.

Lissebette is a fairly short woman (around five foot four), of petite stature. She's pale, with a smattering of freckles across her nose and cheeks. Her hair is a dark blonde, and her eyes a middling blue. There's nothing really exceptional about her appearance, although her taste when it comes to clothes is exquisite. Previously, she'd always had rather simple tastes, preferring to look modest and not draw too much attention to herself. Now, free from most of the constraints of medieval Europe, she mixes the most beautiful part of their fashions with the comfort of 21st century clothing.

Personality words:
Observant, brash, excitable.

Phillip had a fairly traditional upbringing, he was named after his paternal grandfather and was due to become a knight like his father. He was a page at the same castle his parents were at, and in another few years he would have been apprenticed to a knight, probably at another castle. All in all, he's coped well with the transition from medieval England to Evelon, and Lissebette has been considering enrolling him in school. He understands what has gone on, and now that he understands a little more of Evelon life, he doesn't want to return to England.

Phillip is a fairly normal 10 year-old boy, although he is unusual in some aspects. He's fairly adept at chess, reads many more complex pieces of literature easily, and yet struggles with some of the simpler ones and he is very fond of fencing. While fencing doesn't translate to wielding a broadsword, his mother still thinks that it's important to keep these things up. You never know when they might come in handy.

Otherwise, Phillip is a fairly smart lad, who's picked up his mother's determined streak and was taught from a young age how quickly the court could turn against you, if you didn't meet or exceeded it's standards. Hence, he's fairly observant and tends to say things that jar with his otherwise fairly brash and obvious personality, has John's sense of humor can be very loud and raucous when the mood strikes him.

Phillip is of an average height for his age, has his mothers eyes and his father's dark hair.

> Caedmon of Rievaulx  <

“ The meek shall inherit the earth. ”

Last known residence:
No fixed abode.
Technical info:
he|species|quad, human
lineage|none
Personality words:
Calm, devout, curious.

Caedmon was given to the monks of Rievaulx abbey as a child, to be raised as a Cistercian monk. As a child he showed promise, he was incredibly devout as well as being fairly intelligent. He never complained of the hardships of the way of life, and was fascinated by religious scripture. Rather than becoming a lay brother and working on the land, he became a choir monk, and was working towards becoming a priest.

Caedmon is a diligent soul, he's never been afraid of hard work, and always maintains that the easiest way of getting something done is to just persevere and get it completed. He was always very kind, to the point of being something of a pushover. That being said, he will stand his ground and when he digs deep Caedmon has a surprising amount of courage. He has a strong moral compass and dislikes seeing any sort of injustice or cruelty. He always tries to stand up for whats right, and it's that inability to leave things alone that's gotten him into more trouble than anything else. While he large knowledge of religious scripture, and can certainly talk his way out of most arguments, he doesn't always have the strength to back his points up.

After being looked after by the monastery for a time when he was injured, Sir Gouen made friends with Caedmon and has since visited several times, with the pretense of bringing a donation to the abbot there. Whenever he visits, he brings stories of the outside world, and it's of those stories that Caedmon has a fascination. Up until his trip to Evelon, he'd only left the abbey once before. He's incredibly curious about the outside world, and has always secretly wanted to travel. Caedmon was originally very confused and scared by Evelon, but now he's absolutely fascinated by it and wants to learn as much as he can about it even if at times he feels guilty for leaving so much of his old life behind. He's not sure what he'd do if given the option to return, he feels duty-bound to return... but he's not sure if he wants to. He's currently travelling with Lissebette and her son, he sometimes feels intimidated by Lissebette but the two of them get on fairly well.

Appearance-wise, Caedmon looked like a typical Cistercian monk when he first came to Evelon, white habit, haircut and all. But since then, he's began to look much more like a regular 20-something. He's clean shaven, and has very short black hair. He favors simplistic tunics, jeans and heavy, old fashioned boots. Caedmon is on the shorter side of average, being around five foot six and very pale blue eyes.

> Moira Escott <

“ Stop undead discrimination! In modern society this antiquated and archaic way thinking is both offensive and moronic, and I want to see it come to an end. ”

Tarot Card: The Heirophant
Technical info:
she|myu reaper
quad, human
asexual|aromantic
Personality words:
Opinionated, eloquent, level-headed.

Moira spent many years working as an apprentice for a necromancer, before leaving to create her own coven. She was sick of the way apprentice witches were treated, despite the fact that many of them were exceptionally talented in their own right. Being a necromancer herself, Moira deals with mostly reanimation, although she is quite capable of preforming basic scrying.

Necromancy is a magic that's mostly concerned with creating one thing from another, in it's simplest forms it can be largely symbolic, but the greater the act that needs to be performed, the greater the sacrifice. Because necromancy can be very dangerous, it's mostly a dying art. Most necromancers are very adept at sewing (they don't really have a choice if they want to be necromancers) and hence Moira's prized possession is a needle that can change size at will. Normally, she wears it in her hair.

Personality wise, Moira is someone who's very much concerned with doing the right thing. Once she's found a cause, she sticks to it and is extremely vocal about it. She's very opinionated and bossy, and tends to look down quite harshly on anyone who doesn't share her opinions on the matters she's most passionate about. Moira hates to be wrong, and rarely admits to her mistakes. She's a natural-born leader, and while she does occasionally have a habit of talking over people, she's generally very fair and level-headed. She's good at making decisions quickly, and rarely appears insecure about the choices she makes. Necromancy is something she's very proud of, and she won't stand to have her work or the people she cares about insulted. Usually, Moira's pride is her downfall.

Appearance-wise, Moira is a willowy woman in her thirties with long black hair and very dark eyes. She's got quite a pointed chin, and a face that's a little bit too sharp for it's own good. She wears a lot of black, and has a distinct fondness for ruffles and lace.

Tarot Card: The Star
Technical info:
they|genderqueer
custom myu reaper|human, quad

Personality words:
Spontaneous, eccentric, quick.

Alex was the unpredictable apprentice of a green witch up until fairly recently. Unlike the other two Alex hadn't felt particularly oppressed or under-appreciated by his mentor. However, when she turned herself into a tree and retired, Alex missed the feeling of community and so joined a coven.

Alex, like their mentor, is also a green witch. (Witch being a gender neutral term in magical society, despite it's connotations elsewhere.) Green witches work half by tradition and half by intuition, although it's funny how often the two coincide. They work with the earth, their magic is subtle and slow, but powerful. All green witches have familiars and Alex is no exception, their familiar is a hive of honeybees.

As a green witch, Alex runs mostly off of intuition. They're someone who trusts their feelings entirely, and tends to do things without having any idea why they're doing them. They've been known to make up spells in the middle of casting them, and other strange things, simply because they felt it was the right thing to do. Although, that's not to say Alex always relies on intuition. Often, they'll be found checking one of the old gardening manuals left by their mentor, or indeed even visiting the tree their mentor turned into to try and glean a little bit of advice. Alex tends to see and find connections other people don't, and they're incredibly creative and quick to realize to realize things. Their mind is always buzzing with one idea or another and they struggle to calm down. This gives Alex a tendency to be scattered, and they can be rather unreliable.

Alex is an androgynous figure of average height, short bright ginger hair and covered in freckles. They have rather thin lips and a slight overbite, which gives them a rather devious smile. They have strange taste in clothes, and usually end up wearing over-sized shirts clothes that are so patched and worn it's difficult to tell what colour they were originally. Alex has a habit of wearing scraps of fabric tied around their neck or ankles, which only adds to the general eccentricity.

> Danielle Dunnett <

“ What would you like to know? ”

Tarot Card: The High Priestess
Technical info:
she|custom myu reaper
human, quad
homosexual|homoromantic
Personality words:
loyal, kind, quiet

Danielle worked as the apprentice of a fortune teller for many years, until she got sick of always playing second-fiddle despite the fact that Danielle was just as talented as she was. So, she left. She quickly ended up meeting Moira at a meeting for the local W.I and she, Moira and Alex started a coven together.

Danielle knows a lot about fortune telling. She's had experience with most methods of fortune telling, but she only ever really uses palmistry. Having too many props tends to confuse her. Danielle is a seer, and while all fortune tellers are seers in some way, the best ones will see omens in dreams and sometimes even in running water. If there's a prophecy to be told, they simply can't escape it. Hence, Danielle tends to carry around an absolutely monstrous book full of what various omens mean.

Overall, Danielle is a fairly quiet individual. She's very dedicated to her job, and is a tireless optimist. Normally, she can appear a little distant. This is normally because she's caught in the middle of whatever event she's been foretelling, and it's difficult to work out what exactly is going on when you're so close to it. Danielle lacks the pragmatism that most seers have gained, and she tends to believe that everything will work out alright in the end and she's determined to find the good in everyone she meets. She can be a little bit of a bleeding heart, too kind, too gentle, too sincere, but don't mistake all of that for weakness. Danielle is far from helpless. She's practical, grounded, and often the voice of reason behind Moira's fanatic outbursts.

Appearance-wise, Danielle is a large woman in her mid-twenties with short gold curls and dark blue eyes. She's slightly shorter than average, and is the shortest out of the coven. She adores pretty clothes, and particularly loves pastel shades and lace. She adores the vintage aesthetic, and wears and an awful lot of mint green. Funnily enough, she's got several tattoos, although the most noticeable are the palmistry-based tattoos on her hands and the blue roses on her neck and shoulders.

“ Evil genius is rather melodramatic, don't you think? ”

Last known residence:

Technical info:

quad, human
Personality words:
genius, scheming, inexperienced

Consider this; a family made up of four people. A disillusioned artist, a manic preacher, a girl born before the artist was disillusioned and the preacher manic, this girl wears the rose-tinted spectacles her parents crafted for her in their naivety. Finally, there is the youngest. She was born to fill the fractures, to give the same sort of joy her sister brought. She is the result of misguided idealism and she knows it. She's too wise, too old, too cynical and she suffers for it. She's compared unfavourably to her sister at every opportunity. While the Earth turns for the family's golden child, the youngest sister is left to fend for herself.

In fending for herself she turned to money making schemes, first simple, then elaborate. She realized how easy it was for her. She became more ambitious, and hired her first gunman. More followed. When she was 13, her sister finally realized the harsh reality of life and chose to end her's. This was the last straw for the youngest sibling. She's now 15 and runs a small criminal empire.

Agnes McMorrow is a terrifying individual. She has the intellect of a genius, the willpower of a professional athlete and the emotionless facade of a practiced killer, all wrapped up in the body of a 15 year old girl with an interest in Lolita fashion. Her standards are precise and exacting, and she loathes being underestimated. That being said, she often finds it useful. Agnes is very resourceful, especially when she puts her mind to it.

Her facade isn't perfect, however. She struggles controlling her emotions they tend to flare up badly once no one is around to see. She suffers from panic attacks. Though she can generally anticipate what someone will do in a particular situation, she finds it difficult to relate to people as a whole. Agnes worries about what her employees think of her a lot, especially about whether they underestimate her. Because of this she tends to over compensate, being more vicious and strict than she needs to be. She's young, she's learning and still makes mistakes.

Last known residence:

Technical info:

Personality words:
cold, changeable, compulsive

Nika Gare is a semi-professional poet, part time waiter, and a serial killer. Nika isn't sure how it all began, they never took a magnifying glass to ants on a hot day, they never hurt animals. They were isolated and teased mercilessly though school, but even that didn't lead to any violent tendencies. Their parents never took well to their chosen identity, and Nika took refuge in the night life, bars, drinking, one-night stands. Nika supposed that eventually the objectification just became too much. Nika's habit of killing young males along with their preferred method of killing (a knife wound from just below the collar bones to just above the crotch) has earnt them the nickname Ripperette (a bastardization of the Italian "riparte" meaning again, and a feminization of "ripper".

Nika is someone who wears many facades. You may see them, bright, pixie-like and cheerful. This is the first mask. Or, you may see them in a more sultry mood, flirtatious but certainly macabre. In truth, neither of those are how Nika really is. They're intelligent, but often very melancholy going through periods in which unshakable black moods settle over them for days. Cunning, too, with a slightly bloodthirsty edge. Killing is a compulsion now, unavoidable and all consuming. There's little they can do to avoid it. Nika is very good at pretending to be less than they actually are.

Should you meet them in an everyday situation, Nika is rather distant, to the point of being cold. People tend to feel uncomfortable around them, even if they can't quite pinpoint why. They like to keep themself. Nika is incredibly defensive about their identity, and anyone who disrespects nonbinary or genderfluid individuals in their presence is liable to get a knife in their gut. Nika tends to have poor health, suffering from insomnia and migraines, they eat very little and as such are alarmingly underweight.

In terms of appearance, Nika has a mop of dark brown hair that falls naturally in small waves to around ear height and piercing green eyes with dark shadows beneath them. They have a very pinched look, but their features, especially their lips are very feminine. Nika is of a petite build, around five foot eight with narrow shoulders. They wear a variety of different styles, but prefer dark coloured, tailored clothes.

Last known residence:
Eunice's house.
Technical info:
he|soldier evren
human, quad
Personality words:
suspicious, defensive, meticulous

Rupert is an ex-alcoholic at the tender age of 28. There was a twelve-year age gap between him and his siblings, and he spent his entire childhood reading detective stories and dreaming. Once out of school, he tried to join the police and when that failed he tried to set up his own detective agency. It was failing when he got the news about his mother, and at her funeral, his family finally cut their ties from him. The drinking got worse from there, he wasted the money he got from his inheritance and when Eunice went looking for him, he was sleeping on other people's couches or when that failed, park benches.

Rupert knows a lot of random facts and is better equipped to dealing with people than Eunice is. Rupert very good at research and linking together all of the facts to make a cohesive, believable theory, basically all of the things Eunice is incapable of doing herself. He's thorough with his research and unshakable once he feels that he's stumbled upon the truth. She sees what happened, it's Rupert's job to prove it. He has no qualms against lying and is much more 'street smart' than Eunice, who tends to be quite emotional. He's also very moral, having strict standards which he holds himself to.

His view of the world tends to be quite cold and cynical and Rupert has a very low opinion of the people, believing that they are inherently selfish.  He generally responds in a defensive manner when spoken to. Rupert is sensitive about his past, and it shakes him when it's brought up. He can be a bit insecure at times, despite being almost invaluable to Eunice.

Rupert is quite average-looking, with blond hair and grey eyes. He's a little on the short side, but not overly so and normally looks a little bit grubby, dressed in his old fleece and scarf with a little bit of stubble. He doesn't look like the most social of people, and Rupert most certainly isn't. He has very few friends and hates crowds.

vii) Herringford's School for Gifted Students

Postby Mousen » 06/05/2015 6:49 AM

Herringford's School For Gifted Pupils was established in 1910 by a man called Reginald Herringford. It was a private school, open to both young men and young women, though they were kept separate at all times. Surprisingly, though, it offered the exact same curriculum for both genders. The school has changed with the times, and now the only separation is between the secondary school students aged 11-16 and the college students aged between 17-18.

Despite being a prestigious school, fees low in comparison to the private academy just across the street. Its students always receive exceptional marks, and the demand to go there is very high. They hold a lottery for the paying students, but a good percentage of the pupils get into the school due to grants, scholarships and "opportunities schemes".

“ What year is it? ”

Teaching position: headmaster
sometimes teaches history
Technical info:
he|custom wockee

Personality words:
Mysterious, upbeat, busy.

Herringford was born in 1910, co-incidentally the same year he founded the school. It is, at this point, worth mentioning that Herringford is a time traveler. While, like any other time traveler he has his fun bouncing backwards and forwards from one historical event to the next, the school has always been and always will be his main priority. He's not sure how it came about, other than through a series of bizarre paradoxes. He's been able to time travel as long as he cam remember, and he's developed his own set of rules. He's only allowed to intervene in his own timeline during the years in which his age ends in a nine, he can, however, time travel to help run the school so long as he doesn't meet his past or future self. He keeps a black leather diary with dates in which his future self has/is going to intervene, along with many other complicated-time travel related things.

Herringford is a mysterious character, he dislikes revealing too much. He can be rather dramatic when the mood takes him, and enjoys holding people in suspense. He's too curious for his own good and can be rather nosy at times. Herringford expects a lot of himself, at all times and gets incredibly frustrated if he can't live up to his own expectations. He teaches himself a lot of things, and is always learning something. He enjoys reading, and can get carried away by his own enthusiasm.

Younger Herringford is a lot more optimistic than the older one, who's often rather frustrated with his younger self's enthusiasm and reluctance to take things seriously. Herringford often gets into trouble through miscomunication, he has a habit of assuming that people know what he means or that they'll pick up on vague hints. He seems to dislike communicating directly, and instead comes to make his points in a rather circuitous manner. That is, apart from when he's lecturing, where if anything his eccentric style tends to be overly brief.

Appearance wise, Herringford is around five foot ten of a lanky build with brown eyes and short-ish strawberry blonde hair. He favors flat caps and braces, generally looking slightly out of time (which, he is). He has a thin nose that is a little bit upturned at the end, and a rather angular face shape. There is something a tiny bit... sneaky-looking about him. Older Herringford is blind in one eye, and even older Herringford has a touch of grey and two fingers on his right hand missing.

> Frederick Lune <

Teaching position: Deputy Head
teaches psychology
Technical info:
pronoun|species

Personality words:

The latest in a long line of deputy heads, Frederick takes care of most of the day-to-day concerns that occur in running a successful private school. In fact, it's more common to see Frederick giving speeches or opening a school event than it is to see Herringford, who's appearances are sporadic at best. Frederick probably wouldn't have taken the job if he'd known that it meant doing twice the work for half the credit, but, then again, the pay is very good. Besides, he's grown to like the school and the strange man that occasionally pops by to run it.

Frederick is a kind, soft-spoken man that originally wanted to be a therapist before deciding on teaching. This leads to many students assuming that he's a push over, but just because he doesn't raise his voice, doesn't mean that he's not going to punish the people that break the rules. He expects an awful lot from his students, and pushes for better and better results year after year. It's not that he expects every student to be academic, he just expects them to do the absolute best that they can.

He has a knack for understanding people and knowing what they're thinking, hence he tends to be the teacher that students often come to with problems. He's always willing to listen and give advice and he's very good with people, often smoothing over the problems that Herringford's lack of communication causes. He's brilliant at multi-tasking, and is incredibly organized. Frederick is almost always calm and collected, the only person who can successfully ruffle his feathers is his boss, and Herrngford takes the opportunity to do so frequently, no matter what age he's at.

Frederick is a tall man, around six foot with white blonde hair and pale blue eyes. He's very pale, with rather sad-looking eyes and a long face. He's in his early thirties, and does his best to look professional. Even if he does own far too many sweater vests.

Last known residence:
Technical info:

Personality words:

Valerie was once a knight for the crown, well-respected throughout the small kingdom she resided in. She was head of one of the royal guard divisions and had been the champion in tournaments more than once. However, she was demoted after a shoulder injury meant she couldn't keep up with her old duties. She took this personally, acting out and getting involved in all kinds of schemes until she was eventually banished from the kingdom itself. It was only her former favour that stopped her being executed for treason.

Valerie remains an adept and capable leader, even though she is now leading a bunch of oddballs on a quest for treasure as opposed to an army. She's quite gruff, preferring to tell them what they're doing wrong than offer praise. Since being exiled, her already skewed moral compass has twisted even further. While she'll stop short of burning down orphanages or killing puppies, there's not too much she's against doing in her search for cold, hard cash. She's stubborn as a mule with a ruthless streak, hates loosing more than anything and is extremely proud. She can get tunnel vision when it comes to achieving her goals, the only thing that gives her pause is the well-being of her idiot teammates.

She's short-ish for a knight, generally dressed in practical clothing, breeches with loose tunics tucked into them, or else in the amour she took with her when she left. The distinctive rose-gold colour identifies her as being a member of her old royal guard, but she hasn't had the heart to sell it and buy a new one. She has long,
honey-blonde hair and an olive complexion. She's broad, well-built with an expression that's generally severe enough to cause flowers to wilt.

Personality words:

Hylas is a demi-god, they're the child of the little-known trickster god and wind spirit, Jappes. They really only call on their father when they need something, but they generally have a reasonable relationship.
This might be because, to appear more respectable, Hylas has decided to become a priest of Jappes. Jappes finds the whole thing very amusing.

Hylas shares the same taste for mischief and trouble as their father, although in many ways, they're a bit better at getting out of it. Hylas is dramatic and flamboyant, a total ham. They elaborate schemes, anything where they get a chance to fool an audience. Not only that, they're good at it too, having some of their own shapeshifting powers that they inherited from Jappes. They joined Valerie out of a desire to find treasure,
and stayed because they found her capable enough to keep their interest. Hylas is pretty smart when they can be bothered to think things through, and Valerie, certainly was no fool. Hylas is impulsive, often making important decisions without thinking of the implications. They breeze through life and don't take any of it too seriously.

They have an eye for men and women, generally not bothering to pay the fee at a tavern and relying on their luck to get a place to sleep that night. Another thing they enjoy immensely is faking their own death, and will do so with relish any time they get the opportunity. At this point, they have managed to scare every member of their party witless at least once. Now, though, they generally just tickle Hylas until they give up and start giggling.

Hylas is sweet looking, looking fairly innocuous and innocent dressed in a robe decorated with symbols associated with the priesthood of Jappes (that Hylas made up, they hired a seamstress to make it look proper) with their gingery hair that falls in soft waves, excessive freckles and wide-blue eyes. Being a shapeshifter, their appearance is definitely more malleable than most, but watch for the freckles across the nose and an impish expression.

> Orist <

Last known residence:
Technical info:

Personality words:

Orist is an elf involved in strange, dark magic. He doesn't speak much, if at all, and keeps his cards close to his chest. The best guess about his past is that his magic wasn't considered safe and he was driven out,
or he is one of the last practitioners of his art and has nothing left to go home to. Orist was the first to join Valerie once she started looking for adventurers. She trusts him more than most, some communication or other seems to have passed between them.

When he does speak, he does so with difficulty and through a thick accent. Otherwise he seems content to remain an observer, only really speaking to query his role in a scheme, point out some flaw or ask where the bathroom is. He's fond of the others, as far as they can tell. He has the gift of foresight and is often interpreting his dreams or the dreams of others. Many of the things he sees he makes no mention of. Orist is talented at combat, using offensive magic to deal out damage. No one knows what the extent of his powers really are. Everything about him his really a mystery.

Orist has long dark hair, unnaturally coloured skin and wears some kind of tunic and robe made from a material which is dark and swirling. He has a handsome, but distant-looking face, and odd, pale eyes.

> Virgil <

“ Quote ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
pronoun|species

Personality words:

Virgil is some kind of golem. They found her in a ditch one day and she ended up tagging along with them. Its strange, everything about her is so pale that it seems impossible that she be made out of clay.
The current guess is some kind of limestone or chalk, which is definitely rather unusual. She has no memory of who made her or why, she doesn't even remember her name, which prompted Hylas to name her Virgil.
"She looks like a Virgil", apparently.

Like Orist, she's pretty taciturn, but is generally more talkative than he is. She wants to figure out what happened to her, but really doesn't have any other goals apart from that. She doesn't need to eat or sleep and doesn't really need money, but travelling is her best way to figure out her purpose, and travelling in a group is far easier than travelling alone. Emotionally, she is very subdued, it is Orist that she is most attatched to.
They actually have conversations sometimes. There's a kind of anger boiling beneath the surface with Virgil,
she hates not knowing and feeling as though she was abandoned. Se struggles to process her emotions,
leading to days of nothing followed by a large outburst. She's unpredictable and doesn't really seem to know herself at all.

She's been pieced together out of something, there's a few cracks here and there on her sallow skin. Wearing or not wearing clothes doesn't bother her, but for he sake of the group she wears a jumper, some trousers and a set of Hylas' old boots. Her face seems a little oddly proportioned, her eyes a curious shade of red and her white hair hands limpy down the side of her face. She's small built, petite, even, but she has enough strength to snap a man in half.

> Petula <

“ ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
pronoun|species
lineage|restrictions
Personality words:

Petula used to be a royal herald, the one assigned to Valerie. Valerie took her with her when she as demoted, and again when she got exiled. Petula was not necessarily pleased about this, preferring the finer things in life and her status as a herald. She'd had a future ahead of her. She's smart enough to change with the times, though, and actually rather enjoys her lifestyle. She's still quite young, and the rest of their group do try to keep her out of the worst of the danger. She's a determined sort, though, and generally does whatever she wants.

She's excitable, cheerful and generally good nature. She can be a little precocious and selfish at times, she doesn't like to have her luxuries taken away from her. Petula does act in earnest and tries to work hard. She's pretty quick on her feet too, much faster than any of the others and she's got a very good memory. She can get nervous around tall, pretty boys and would find Hylas quite the challenge had their silly behaviour not took the sheen off of that. She's not very good at hiding her emotions and is pretty much an open book. Petula is quite ambitious, even if her ambitions are currently quite directionless as the herald for a disgraced knight turned part-time adventurer.

Petula is of average height for her age, freckled, surprisingly graceful. Her hair is shoulder length and perpetually pulled back from her face. She has pixie-like features, an upturned nose and a usually inquisitive expression. It doesn't help that she wears a lot of green. She's usually carrying at least a few of Valerie's things, and being that she rarely fights, the group has the unfortunate habit of using her as something of a pack mule.

> Lizne <

“ That's pronounced Captain Lizne, so you know. ”

Technical info:
she|teigu
pansexual|polyamorous
Lifemate: open
Personality words:
confident, content, loud

Lizne is an alien, something that's a little like a lizard or newt. Her species generally dwell in the shallows, building elegant stone buildings in the flat marshy plains of her home country. She has more of a muzzle than a nose that sits quite low on her face, two bead-y wide-set eyes and a tall frill. She's pink and yellow, and could be mistaken for teigu at a glance, though she stands straighter and taller than a teigu would.
The people in her part of her planet generally only wear clothes for ceremonial purposes and even then they tend to be loose flowing robes. She does wear clothes around her spaceship the MAG-PI3, but it tends to be shorts and t shirts without shoes. The worst thing is for Lizne's skin to get try, so she usually keeps a spray mister or something handy, and when the recycled air is particularly dry, she resorts to wearing a fish-bowl helmet hooked up to a humidifier.

As the captain, Lizne is cheerful, abrasive and no-nonsense. She enjoys doing the galaxy's odd jobs and doesn't really look for anything bigger in life. Most of the time they're on the right side of the law, so she does get rather prickly if she's worried about the legality of something they've been asked to transport. She's terrible at being subtle, and generally what you see is what you get. Its very rare for her to manage to keep secrets. She's pretty protective over her ship and her crew, her ship especially. Lizne is pretty lazy where she can manage to get away with it, spending hours in steam room or falling asleep in the shower when the MAG-P13 is on auto pilot or in orbit. She's definitely a night owl, much preferring to stay up late to get work done than get up and start work straight away. Lizne likes a good time and while she can't go near human alcohol, she does enjoy a bit of harmless gambling and always seems to be betting one of the crew members to do something. She's a talented captain and is trained to do spacewalks, which she adores.

> Gin <

“ Quote ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
pronoun|species
lineage|restrictions
Personality words:
sullen, careful,

Gin is an ABL, and artificial biologial lifeform. He was developed in a lab to act as a counter to the artificial intelligence that are available for purchase as mother programmes for auto pilots or as personal carers. However, the project was deemed inhumane and shut down - the idea of buying AI was one thing,
but buying biological lifeforms with that kind of intelligence seemed... especially wrong. Because only one model was ever made, the whole thing ended without much of a fuss. Gin was sent off into the world and ran into Lizne and he follows her through choice.

Gin is very reserved, he hates the scientists that decided he would be a good idea and only returns to see them when he really has to. Having a unique physiology, its really only them that can help him when he becomes ill.
He's quiet, but not necessarily silent and a bit sullen. He's acts as a counter for Lizne's enthusiasm and is the one that sways her away from the more dangerous jobs. Gin hates talking about himself and would much rather ask other people about themselves. He's introverted and unsure of himself, but genuinely polite underneath that, if a bit pessimistic. He's got a much more even temper than Lizne, who gets worked up about things quickly, but holds a grudge for much longer. He tends to stew in his emotions, something Lizne is always steering him away from. He does enjoy participating in daily life aboard the MAG-PI3 and feels a deep sense of loyalty towards his crew members.

Gin is on the small side of average, with a small-ish build. He has dark hair that falls over his eyes and rather visible veins. He has a little bit of bioluminescence that's most prominent on the small freckle-like markings around his eyes and down on his shoulders and back. His features and proportions are humanoid, although there is something that seems okay a little... constructed about the face. It's too symmetrical.

> Zephyr <

“ Quote ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
pronoun|species
lineage|restrictions
Personality words:

Zephyr is from a species of winged humanoid aliens who are definitely not angels, have never interacted with humans in any way, and the fact that they look exactly like angels is just one of those funny co-incidences you get in an exceptionally large universe. Right? Right. The thing with Zephyr's species is that they all function as part of a hive-mind, when one looses their connection to that hive-mind due to an injury or mental illness they can no longer function the same in society. Whilst there are movements and societies that try to protect the rights of these individuals, often the best thing for them is to leave their planet all together. Zephyr is an example of this.

Zephyr is genderless, using they/them pronouns. They're tall, otherworldly with waist-length white hair and blue-ish grey wings. They do actually allow for flight. They have pale eyes and an slightly up-turned nose. They will wear whatever is flattering for them, having a very varied wardrobe. They're quite vain and like to look their best. There's a real cynical streak in Zephyr that can very easily turn mean, they can be petty, picking up on the insecurities of their fellow crew members. Zephyr is not totally heartless, just a bit self-centred at times. They have good wit and comedic timing when its not turned towards their friends, and when they let their guard down they know just what to say. Some of Zephyr's problems stem from the psychic ability that allowed them to connect to the hivemind in the first place, that level of empathy is not helpful, and its often easier just to forget that its there. Their abilities as a navigations officer is unparalleled, another reason why the crew find it easier to let Zephyr stay. It would be incredibly difficult to find someone of their ability again. Zephyr is a terrible flirt and very charming when they want something. They've got a particular soft spot for Lizne,  who in turn seems to return the affection just a little. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly serious between them though.

> Blythe Brent <

“  ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
pronoun|species
lineage|restrictions
Personality words:

Blythe is the ship's mechanic and a human soldier. She served in the army for a time, but left several years ago to pursue something that was a bit more relaxed. She's about 40 now, and is the "oldest" crew member (Zephyr is a bit older, but will live for much longer). She has never been married, which she regrets,
and has not had children, which she doesn't. She was hoping for a slightly different life, but financial constraints have pushed her into working again. There are certainly worse jobs than travelling aboard the MAG-P13. Its a zippy vessel, meant for quickly transporting small loads of cargo where they need to go. It isn't too high-tec as spaceships go, certainly less complicated than the military vessels that Blythe was use to.

Blythe is a strong, hardworking woman. She's grounded and practical, rarely letting her emotions get the better of her. When she does, she likes to deal with them silently, away from people. She gets on well with Gin and doesn't let Zephyr pull any of their shit around her. She's naturally authoritative and its difficult to get the drop on her. Sometimes her and Lizne butt heads, but generally she trusts her Captain and thinks very highly of her. Despite having spent so much time in space, spacewalks terrify her and she would much rather send Lizne to do any external repairs, explaining what needs to be done over the coms system. Blythe was hoping that her life would turn out a little differently, and there's a kind of wistfulness about that. She wishes that she didn't have so much obligation to the people back home, people she rarely gets to see now. Although space was freeing for her, allowing her to be exactly who she wanted away from the prejudice of others, it has often been rather lonely. She likes to write and journal and still hopes to find out exactly what she wants to do with her life.

Blythe is tall for a woman with a very dark complexion and thick afro hair she will sometimes pull back into elaborate styles. Generally though, she just leaves it as is. She's normally found in her mechanics overalls,
though has a fondness for that retro-future aesthetic and will wear her silver space boots and orange leather jacket if she thinks she can get away with it.

> MAG-P13 <

“ Quote ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
pronoun|species
lineage|restrictions
Personality words:

MAG-P13 is the name both of the physical ship and the AI that runs it. Some prefer to have different names, but its never particularly bothered them. Sometimes for clarity's sake they will be referred to as Maggie. Maggie is the one who takes care of much of the day to day running of the ship, running diagnostics,
keeping the air levels in the rooms okay and trying to ensure that no one dies.

They're pretty chatty, in fact, once you've started its difficult to get them to shut up. They have a good disposition, if possibly a little cheeky. They're reticent to admit when they've made mistakes and ca be a little impulsive, neither of which are very good qualities for someone running a spaceship, but they're careful that they do their job properly. It's the thing that's front and centre of their mind at all times. As an AI they possess a vast amount of knowledge, which they tend to spout off at random times. Anyone who is with Maggie for more than a minute or so will probably find themselves just a little bit wiser on the end of it, though its probably knowledge they had no interest in learning.  They're friendly, but can be a bit sensitive when put out.
Its dangerous to upset them as they know a lot of the crew's secrets, they try to keep their distance when the crew members are in their quarters, but its difficult when you are always awake, existing throughout every part of the ship. They might actually be a bit more mature than they let on.

The ship Maggie is integrated with is the MAG-P13, which is a kind of small transport vessel known as a planet-hopper. They don't have much power, but plenty of agility. The MAG-P13 can jump into hyperspace, although that was added to the ship much later. Its common for pirates and smugglers to add this feature to planet-hoppers and turn them into long-distance smuggling vessels.

xi) Victoria's New and Second Hand Books

Postby Mousen » 06/05/2015 6:53 AM

> Thursday Macloughlin <

“ So, you come here often? ”

Last known residence:
Technical info:
he|paragon
custom|none
Personality words:
Easy going, sociable, generous, non-confrontational.

Thursday is the son of two hippies, he picked up their easy-going lifestyle. While he was in university, he found himself in need of money and works at Victoria's in his spare time. He studies geology at university, and hopes to be a geologist when he graduates.

Thursday is extremely laid back and calm for the most part, he likes to take life as it comes and so prefers to not overthink thinks. He lives in the moment. Thursday absolutely adores people, not all of them, but just... people in general. He strongly believes that most of the population are good once you get to know them. He's the kind of person who would pick up something you'd accidentally dropped and run after you to return it, or smile at you on the street. He has many friends, but his only close friends are the fellow employees at Victoria's New & Second Hand Books. He's also rather flirtatious, with people of every gender, although he rarely means anything by it.

That being said, Thursday hates confrontation. He'll go quite far to avoid fights and arguments, and this can make him something of a push over. He knows his own mind for the most part, but if he can see it's going to cause an argument, he'll back down. Thursday's other vice is romance. He falls in love very quickly, but equally is hesitant to be close to someone. This usually ends in someone being angry that Thursday is more affectionate with his friends than with them, Thursday avoiding them in fear of confrontation and a messy break-up through text. For someone who's so good with people, it's amazing how poor he is with relationships.

Appearance-wise, Thursday is very tall, a good few inches over six foot, with a mop of blond hair. He dresses a little bit like a colour-blind hipster, which is to say that his taste is rather eccentric. He also wears glasses for reading, though he always looses them and refuses to wear a lanyard. Thursday has blue/green-ish eyes, and a smattering of freckles across his nose and cheeks.
