Welcome to my pen!

Characters are grouped into posts based on their default world setting. Characters in the same post do not necessarily know one another, but they do exist in the same world together.

Every post has a note at the top describing the world the characters live in and the technology and magic levels they would be familiar with as a baseline for roleplays.

Most characters are available both in pet form or another form as described in their bio. They are treated as distinct, but otherwise identical to one another. (Like parallel universes.)

Many years ago the world simply… fell apart. What were once prosperous and advanced civilizations crumbled at an alarming rate. Though nobody alive today was around to know what happened, it is generally thought that the decline of society coincided with the introduction of magic. Some think that the magic itself is at fault, while others believe that it a greedy need to control it that caused the collapse.

What caused magic to seep into the world is still unknown. It simply infused with the natural world. Ordinary creatures became potentially dangerous magical beasts, and the strange new plants took back the world from the hands of humans. Many humans found that they, too, were changing into curious new forms. Before long, the world as they knew it had changed forever.

Magic: Magic is extremely rare, unpredictable, and very powerful. It most often manifests as strange creatures or incredible (though limited) abilities. Sorcery or any way to control a broad scope of magic is unheard of. Most people live in fear of magic, though some are daring enough to seek its power.

Technology: The technology of the ancient world can still be seen in everyday life. Portable tech that was well cared for is abundant, though the infrastructure which created it is certainly destroyed. Travel is mainly done by foot or on the backs of animals, as the system of roads that held up the ancient cities has long since decayed.

The Guild

The world of Pokémon is a strange and interesting place. It is inhabited solely by sentient creatures known as Pokémon. Nearly 800 different varieties are known to exist. Some are extremely common, like birds and rats, and others are so rare and powerful that their existence is tied to legend.

Many Pokémon live in harmony in towns and cities that dot the land, but the areas outside of these communities is dangerous. Violent wild Pokémon roam the land, thinking nothing of attacking an innocent traveler. In the world of the wild, it’s attack or be attacked. Only those who are strong (or brave) leave the communities they grew up in.

This story is centered around a group of explorers called the Guild. Members of the Guild may be hired to help others with various tasks or sent out on potentially dangerous missions by their trusted leaders. Everyone joins for a different reason, but they all have one thing in common: wanting to help others.

Magic: Magic doesn’t exist in a traditional sense. Instead, Pokémon have special abilities and moves which align with one of 18 different elemental types. The types all interact with one another in a unique way. A short description of their special ability and a list of the moves each character knows will be listed in the character's profile.

Technology: There is little technology to speak of. Since different Pokémon have such a wide range of abilities, there isn’t much pressure to create technology to fulfil tasks. There always seems to be someone who can easily do by hand (or paw) what people usually automate with machinery.

These characters are fan characters for the Pokémon franchise. All characters are Pokémon; their species are listed in their profiles.

Chai Life

This is a look into the everyday lives of average people from many different walks of life. Their lives may be mundane, but they are nonetheless worth writing about. The one thing they all have in common, whether they realize it or not, is a quirky little cafe called Chai Life. They may be employees, every day customers, or simply someone who walks by the shop on the way to work. Whatever the reason, Chai Life is the thread that ties these characters together.

Magic: There is no known magic or supernatural presence.

Technology: The technology level is the same as real world Earth.

These characters are all regular humans with no other forms or abilities.

Kurai
The male Sulkuhna.

Extremely shy and quiet. Seems to hate almost everyone he meets. Would rather avoid problems than confront them. Only shows significant emotion in relation to adopted brother, Kyan.

Tara
The female Spectrakuhna.

Eccentric. Never seems to make a whole lot of sense. Very friendly, but also a little weird. Talks a lot, but often forgets to explain how she arrived at the current talking point. Finds Kurai's endless sulking endearing.

Kyan

Though no doubt very clever, he is often easily distracted and forgets things he doesn't consider important. He will bounce from one thing to another rapidly as new ideas come to him, and therefore always has a few things to work on at a time.

Uses dangerous and experimental technology as weapons and to defend himself. The unpredictable tech often still has some bugs to work out, so he's become an excellent combat engineer who can quickly fix anything on the go. Always wears a hand made mechanical wing pack which allows him to fly, one of his more sturdy and stable creations.

However, as a shadow creature, it can be very temperamental, especially when it can sense strong negative emotions. Though too lazy to actually start a fight, it is still very strong, and often accidentally destroys things or even hurts people.

Absolutely inseparable. They do everything together. Assumed to be siblings or even twins, but nobody actually knows. Sarit is unusually shy and does not speak directly to anyone. Instead, he does all of his communicating through Candra. The two of them share many subtle looks and signals that would be impossible for anyone else to interpret. Their abilities as warriors are tied together. Sarit creates energy which Candra can manipulate for various effects. Neither one's ability is effective without the other.

Thousands of years ago rising sea levels made land dwelling life extinct. From the oceans rose new life, and thus began the Mollusc Era. Most notable among the new lifeforms were the Inklings and Octolings. For some time they lived in peace, until the day that they began to fight over territory in the Great Turf War. Inklings were victorious in claiming the land, and the Octolings retreated underground.

Inklings (and Octolings) are sentient humanoid shapeshifters. They can switch between a humanlike and a squid (or octopus) form at will. Their humanoid forms sport tentacles which they can style like hair, and they can change their tentacle color, eye color, and some other parts of their appearance whenever they choose to.

Inklings and Octolings have a highly pressurized ink sac which they can use with special weapons to play a hugely popular sport called Turf War. Players change color to form two distinct teams, then each team tries to claim the most territory by covering it in ink of their color. Matches are brief because the ink naturally disappears after a short time. Competitive versions of the sport with special objectives are played by skilled players. The rankings for these games are publicly available, so a high rank is coveted.

After the war, Inkling culture exploded as the dominant culture of the surface world. They’ve built huge cities and extensive areas to play Turf War. Modern Inklings have mostly forgotten about the Great Turf War and their long lost Octoling brethren.

Meanwhile, the Octolings lived underground in an industrial wasteland, building armies of Octarians and hoping for a day when they may take back the surface. It seemed that they blindly, perhaps hypnotically followed orders from a mysterious leader. That all changed on one fateful day when the Squid Sisters’ Calamari Inkantation played for all to hear. Those who heard the song were awakened by it, and they traveled to the city to see what the Inklings have been up to. The Inklings don’t seem to mind.

Magic: There is no known magic or supernatural happenings.

Technology: The technology level is similar to real world Earth.

Cerulean

Nerdy L-3 Nozzlenose who would probably rather be playing video games. Brings his Gameboy everywhere with him and often plays it instead of trying to find a team. Contributes his success with the finicky Nozzlenose to a trigger finger honed by years of playing video games. Loves Nintendo and gets very angry at anyone who he thinks doesn't take them seriously.

Indigo
The female Cobalt Kalamarei.

Confident Splat Charger who is great at commanding a whole team. As long as they're willing to listen to her, that is. Proud of her agility and speed. Can be a bit brash, but usually means well. Though she actually cares a lot about her friends and teammates, she often finds herself quite lonely outside of matches. It seems that people love having her on a team more than they love her as a friend. She tries not to let it get to her.

Mazarine
The female custom Kalamarei.

Perky Dapple Dualies user who loves to hop around the map. Very hard to splat. Talks way too fast, possibly too much, and gets excited about things that most people don't find that interesting. Still, she's always there for her team and is well liked among her friends.

Argon
The male Jewel Kalamarei.

Aubergine
The female Lost Kalamarei.

Distant Splat Brella who always wears a scarf that covers her face and never speaks. Disappears mysteriously at the end of matches. Is actually a hugely popular solo pop star who goes by the stage name Glitter, famous for her sparkling tentacles and distinctive voice. Really likes to play turf war, so she sneaks away and hides her identity in order to get in matches. Though quite skilled, she holds back a bit not to stand out too much and draw attention to herself.

Crimson
The male Chaos Kalamarei.

Snooty Tentatek Splattershot who is cocky and takes his rank very seriously. Well known for his skill, as well as the crappy way he treats his team mates. Has a few loyal fanboys, but few actual friends. Most teams can't put up with him for more than a few matches at a time, because he always blames everyone but himself for every little mistake.

A shy Splat Roller who is preoccupied with being 'good enough' for her team. Doesn't have much money, so she uses gear that is scruffy, old, and basic. Though she is welcoming and kind, she doesn't have many friends. Other Inklings sometimes make fun of her gear or the pale brown color of her natural ink, further feeding her insecurities.

Sea anemone that has long tentacles which hide most of his face. A peculiar artist that uses borrowed Inkling ink to paint temporary pictures that quickly disappear. Often found bumming about Inkopolis, offering to draw caricatures of passers by for a little bit of coin. Fascinated by Turf War and the way Inklings make such beautiful, seemingly random art while playing.

Splash
The female custom Diosol.

A small sea bunny who is dwarfed by most Inklings. Her body is naturally completely colorless, and she often feels left out in a world so full of bright and colorful creatures. She is really into Inkling fashion, and loves to show off her home made designs. Dreams of some day having her own clothing line, but is often rejected by other professionals for her rather outlandish sense of style.

Trident
The male Bleached Trumpetter.

Lead singer and guitarist for a newly famous punk metal band. Not really sure about his new found popularity. Mostly just wants to play and express himself through music. Known by his fans for being quite shy and avoiding attention whenever possible.

Gobi
The male Draught Trumpetter.

Trident's younger brother and bass player for their band. Unlike his brother, Gobi loves attention, and often pushes himself into the spotlight. He cares deeply for his brother and does whatever he can to make sure they're both having a good time. Struggles with the idea that he doesn't contribute enough to the band. Has a huge crush on Argyle.  

Argyle
The female Custom Diosol.

A quirky young sea slug and drummer for Trident's band. She's known for her enthusiasm, overly cheerful high pitched voice, and constantly joking around. She's always had a hard time being taken seriously as a musician because of her size, gender, and aloof exterior. She feels very indebted to Trident for giving her a chance.
