Personality: Haruzon never thought she was pretty. No one ever told her she was, and when she asked her parents if they thought she was attractive in any way, they always told her, "Haru, beauty is in the heart. What you look like on the outside doesn't matter at all." As a child, she lived by this advice. She had friends who she cared about fiercely, but it was that very attribute about her that got her into trouble. Like most schools, hers had bullies. Mostly, she and her friends stayed out of their way, and they were left alone. However, one day, one of her best friends did something to get on one of the bullies' bad side. Haruzon watched as her friend was beaten up, and after the first few seconds of shock wore off, she sprung into action. Haruzon attacked the bully and screamed for her friend to run; in the end, the bully ended up with a bloody nose and tears streaming down his face, while Haruzon, albeit her messy hair, was unscathed.
That was the day when her life changed for the worse. A bloody nose was a big deal when you were in elementary school, and she got into huge trouble with her principal and parents. She was suspended from school for two weeks, and all that time, grounded by her parents. Her friend's attacker, however, continued going to school like nothing happened, beating kids and taking their lunch money. Haruzon came to resent her parents; they didn't listen to her story about how her friend was in trouble, and she
had to do something. They told her that fighting was wrong, and that she should never,
ever do it again. But Haruzon had other plans. She wouldn't let anyone hurt her friends again, and she was good and ready to defend them again if the time arose.
Two weeks later, Haruzon was allowed to come back to school. As she walked down the hallways, carrying her little lunchbox and lugging her little blue backpack around, she noticed something different. Kids were
avoiding her. Whenever she went to the bathroom, kids moved out of her way to let her go first. When she went to eat lunch, entire tables of kids cleared out to let her sit. She'd never sat alone at lunch before. Even her friends looked wary, and the 'tough' kids feared her. Rumors spread that there was a new bully at the school, a bully that
bullied bullies. Obviously, this was doubly terrifying for the students that she used to call her friends.
She figured middle school would be a fresh start. She could make new friends, forget all about her time in elementary school. For awhile, everything was fine. But one day, the process seemed to repeat itself, only this time, she didn't wait for the bully to land the first blow. This one in particular threatened to steal her best friend's new phone. He was on the ground in seconds, with Haruzon glaring down at him menacingly. She threatened to hurt him if he tried anything like that again to her friend. Both the bully, and her friend, were frightened. She quickly tried to explain herself to her friend, that she'd been ostracized before for standing up for her friends. Haruzon's best friend, and only real friend at her new school, said she would stick by her, but advised her to steer clear from violent reasoning. After all, wasn't it the teacher's job to restrain bullies?
Haruzon noticed the pattern forming, but she couldn't break it. She couldn't stand to see her friends, those she truly cared about, beaten and teased by strangers she barely knew at her school. By high school, Haurzon was used to the stares, the whispering behind her back. She almost enjoyed it, the solitude. She didn't actively look for friends anymore; if someone wanted to befriend her, they would have to approach her themselves. She'd gotten in trouble numerous times, grounded and suspended more times than her permanent record needed.
