Re: Exquisite Corpse, Version 2

T'was a dark night, much like any other dark night. Only darker. The wind whistled tunelessly. Death pulled up the hood of his black cloak. Had he been flesh and blood he would have been very cold. However he was Death, even though icicles hung from his bone fingers he wasn't cold. Just irritated. Where were they already? You can't cheat Death, but you could certainly make him late.

And, as fate would have it, it was indeed the plan of one Jamie Norton to forestall his final judgment.

The King beneath the mountains,
The King of carven stone,
The lord of silver fountains
Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,
His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden
To songs of yore re-sung.

The streams shall run in gladness,
The lakes shall shine and burn,
All sorrow fail and sadness
At the Mountain-king's return!

(XD a boy in my old class had that name XDDD)

Death looked down and sharpened his scythe. Hoping Fate wouldn't interfere was probably a bad move in hindsight.

(I picked something vaguely British-sounding to do a play on Norry's name. It seems to have worked. By the way, this story should totally involve riddles. *hinthintnudgenudge*)

Young Jamie focused his steely green gaze upon Death, and uttered, "I will let you fulfill your task, but only if you can outsmart me in a game of wits." Of all the souls in the world willing to make a gamble, isn't it ironic that Jamie, a mere boy of seventeen, was the only one brave enough to challenge Death himself?

The King of carven stone,
The lord of silver fountains
Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,
His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden
To songs of yore re-sung.

Youngsters these days... Honestly. They seemed to believe they could outwit both himself and Fate. How very amusing. Had Death been able to show emotion a sinister smile would have been plastered across his face. "Very well, then.
There was many souls to be reaped on the way to St.Ives.
I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks.
Each sack had seven cats
Each sack had seven kits.
How is it that on that day,
I led no less than fourty-nine lives away,
And the man, his wives and the kits and cats,
Were perfectly fine and travelled back? "

(Made the riddle up myself. XP)
