I am the proprietor of the Penguin Cafe, I will tell you things at random.

this little coffee-colored penguin was (partially) inspired by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra and its subsequent re-imagining, the Penguin Cafe. one of their more well-known pieces would be perpetuum mobile.

there's a lot of little details about the penguin cafe experiment that i love, but one thing i found especially touching was how the son of the original penguin cafe proprietor, also a musican himself, founded a similar project as a tribute and a way to remember his father.

i wanted to explore that idea with coffee penguin as well, so a big part of his background is that he inherited this coffee shop-slash-classical music cafe from his grandmother and now has literally no clue what to do with it - but he hopes that it'll provide him some sense of purpose (and maybe a little catharsis) in his life. doesn't help that the coffee shop seems to be haunted, too.

Marma here runs imports and exports along a large stretch of Ree'ne coast. Her main office is in the sea city itself, but she owns docks and industrial buildings in many of the surrounding port cities. She inherited the business from her father, and many of the workers have known her since she was a child. Some people think she is too young to run a business so successful, but she's quick on her feet and clever. Other people think her business is a front for something more nefarious especially considering the suspicious disappearance of her brother when her father was still in charge.

Xanatos hasn't cooked a day in his life, and probably never will. The man loathes cooking since his master couldn't cook to save his life and thus Xanatos never learned how. The man is now rich enough to afford his own private chef.

Perhaps as obscure as it gets, Faramin is a member of a cult--but not just any cult, a one-man cult comprised solely of him, worshipping solely the demon Tinneen that inhabits his body.

Name a character who's lost someone close to them.

For Sivain, there were two.

He was a demi-god, raised by his mortal father, whom he loved a good deal. He didn't really think much about his mother, but it was obvious that his father had loved her a lot, so when he came of age, he became a hero in pursuit of godhood in hopes of reuniting them.

He had a lot of success. The problem was that the final step to ascend was to "kill" your mortal half, by which they meant your mortal parent. Sivain never wanted to go through with it, but his father speared himself on Sivain's blade and forced his hand.

And then, after... Sivain tried his best to be a good god, but the petty natures of humans and gods alike wore him down pretty quickly. He only ever fell in love once, with a mortal woman of no great beauty but strong, upright character... only for his uncle, the head of the pantheon, to choose her as his human sacrifice, knowing what Sivain felt for her. He couldn't stop that one either.

He still carries the burden of both their deaths with him, and hasn't stopped blaming himself even after centuries of distance.
