Grd frowned, leaping to end up on Jappes shoulder. "Yes, the powerless ant and I are hilarious. Wonderful." The imp's tail swished backwards and forwards, like a cat when it was irritated. Jappes didn't seem to be much happier, but that was probably the fact he had a rather powerful creature with very sharp claws sat on his shoulder, in very close proximity to his eyes. Like most creatures, he was rather fond of his eyes.
He still couldn't help but antagonize the ifreet further, though. "I thought I was a knat a moment ago? Have I been upgraded to being as powerless as an ant? That would be a huge honour for me, to be consid- Arg! No! Violence does not solve your problems! Bad genie! Not the eyeeees."
Grd smiled serenely, well, he tried. When you were a little maroon imp, just a little larger than the average person's head, with ram horns and little yellow teeth it was rather difficult to look serene. Instead he settled for mildly devious. "I didn't go for your eyes."
"Oh? Could have fooled me."
"I was just stretching and your... eyes were in the way."
Jappes chose to ignore that comment and instead turned back to Slick. "... Great. I'd better hurry along, my possible demise is that way. I can tell, I relabelled my compass the other day. It now reads 'Demise' 'Sort of demise' 'Have a nice funeral' and 'Beware of balaclavas'. Not sure what I was trying to tell myself with the last one, but there you go." He paused for a few seconds before continuing. "I guess there's no point dragging it out. ... And hey, who said anything about bloodshed? If I have my way, my blood will stay unshed and I run away. I will retreat, abscond, act like a complete coward and save my own skin."
Grd had been silent for a good while, when he spoke again he couldn't help but sound a little amused. "Balaclavas? Really, Jappes?"
"I don't like balaclavas."
It's odd that no matter how much changes between two people, genies, or anything, That even if a begrudging acceptance(friendship for djinns) turned into a hatred, apathy, or mild dislike, they find themselves slotting back into old patterns. Into old ways, old jokes and banter without realizing it.
"You're still being very vague about who you are." Grd observed quietly as they started walking. Clearly, he was intent upon getting some answers from Slick.
